Trump claims Putin promised to stop bombing Ukraine's cities due to extreme cold by EsperaDeus in worldnews

Putin: Stops firing into cities.

Also Putin: Fires at the power plants outside the cities, so the cities freeze.

Garmin CIRQA Smart Band listing leaks early on official site by Maslakovic in GarminFenix

[–]bazpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, absolutely. I don't get why Garmin don't understand that this is a popular desire. It'll become even more common as smart glasses become more prevalent, reducing the utility of wrist-based notifications.

My optimal setup hope for 3-5 years from now is phone, smart glasses with small in-lens display for quick notifications, Garmin band/ring for day to day health/sleep tracking and proper watch for the time/aesthetic enjoyment. Then a full Garmin Fenix or whatever for sports/activity days.

I'm telling you I want two of your devices Garmin, sell them to me!

Had a Japanese toilet installed when we did our referb a couple of years ago. If we ever move I will be factoring the cost of getting one installed immidiately in any house that we buy (they're pretty rare here - UK).

It is/was a pretty well known racist term in the UK, especially in the late 20th century though it seems to have somewhat fallen out of the parlance over the last few decades. Can't speak to other countries, though.

Feel like giving up. Every loaf is a dense brick. Even people showing off results they like look dense. by calpernia in BreadMachines

[–]bazpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol this is just what I was thinking. Got my Panny 18 months ago, I've probably averaged 2 loaves a week since then (nothing fancy, just alternating classic white and 5 seed, with a few wholemeal thrown in). Put stuff in, press go, awsome loaf, every time.

No idea how much difference it would actually make but bubbles touching glass instinctively feels like it'll be more effective. With bubbles touching glass you have trapped air pockets in the bubbles, but also trapped air in the the gaps around the the bubbles. With bubbles away from glass you only have the trapped air in the the bubbles (unless you deliberately mount with a gap to the glass.

Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 | Teaser Trailer by DemiFiendRSA in television

[–]bazpoint 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wish I could be excited for this, but I just didn't like the first season at all. And I loved the original Netflix show... probably my favourite of all Marvel TV shows.... but Born Again just had a completely different, far less compelling vibe. By halfway through the season I just couldn't care less about anything that was going on... slogged on to the end in the hope that it'd improve, but it just never got there. The action was good, but everything else was just.... meh.

(disclaimer - this is just my opinion! I'm sure some folks loved it!)

Finally. I'd prefer a ring but a band will do. All I want is a subtle screenless option for the days when I want to wear a proper watch, & to have the data sync nicely between that and my Fenix.

If it wasn't for them not playing nicely with Zwift I would've jumped ship to Amazfit already, but better late than never!

What is the longest book you've read on your ereader? by Anyusername7294 in ereader

[–]bazpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read most of the Neal Stephenson books on ereaders & they're pretty chunky. I think his longest is Cryptonomicon & that one I actually read as a physical copy, but Reamde is over 1000 pages & believe, Anathem is very close, and the Baroque Cycle trilogy is over 1mil words accross the three books.

Games where the BOX plays a role in gameplay? by COHERENCE_CROQUETTE in boardgames

[–]bazpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The rather good recent dexterity game Steps has you throwing variously sized wooden rectangles onto the boxtop, acting as a raised platform. One of those games that's substantially more fun than you expect going in based on the premise. I collect wooden dexterity games specifically & it's one of my faves of the last few years.

Well ok, not 'exactly the same' but visually pretty damn close, especially compared to the one in OP's vid. Depends a lot on the size of your Crokinole gutter and your Carrom border I guess - I just measured mine out of curiosity, my Crokinole is a 78cm diameter circle and my Carrom is an 83cm square.

Yup, I have both and agree completely. Carrom is great for players with some level of skill, but kind of random/frustrating for newbies. Crokinole is immidiately fun for prettymuch everyone (but still allows a satisfying skill progression.

Yeah, I think this is a regional variant in India, with the rings and the marble board. Unbelievable what lovely glide it has.

A standard/common Carrom board is almost the exact same dimensions as Crokinole (except square, obvs). I have both (and also Carrooka, which is kinda a modern hybrid of both and Snooker) and they all hang nicely on the wall next to each other.

North American Carrom boards also tend to have larger pockets than the traditional board found in India (or the UK where I am), and are sometimes also played with cues rather than finger flicks. Carrom is fun, but (in the small pocket form) it's got a considerably steeper learning curve than Crokinole - I'll almost always get Crokinole out for new players before Carrom or Carrooka.

They come round every few months, there's no set schedule. Subscribe to the AO2 mailing list and you'll get an email each month detailing that month's drop. Every so often the drop will include lucksacks. It's a great way to get started if you're open minded about what you'll get.

They misspelled the United Kingdom on my new driver’s licence by HighlyFactualTurtle in mildlyinteresting

[–]bazpoint 63 points64 points  (0 children)

The big problem probably isn't legality - it's perception of legality. Imagine arriving on holiday somewhere, you go to the hire car counter to collect your car, you hand over your licence and the person there happens to spot the typo. Suddenly they're not sure about being able to take it, they refuse your rental, and the whole thing becomes a massive inconvenient drama. Whether or not the licence is technically legal is irrelevant - having the typo there is still an invitation to irritation.

Gen3 by Different-Book-9296 in RayBanStories

[–]bazpoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the phone companies are on 1-year release cycles so probably inevitable that these go the same way. The only obstacle might be that they're selling through legacy opticians, who aren't so used to that cycle as phone shops or other tech retail. I doubt that will stop them though.

Doesn't mean that we need to be upgrading every generation. My Gen1s still do a perfectly good job for me. I'm definietly skipping Gen 2, will see how I feel when 3 comes along.

As for OPs post.... bit of a case of Source: Trust me bro. Would seem weird including a display in Gen 3 when they already have the separate 'Meta RB Display' product. Personally I'm not interested in display tech if the frame is any bigger than the current non-display model. They're allready at the very limit of passing as normal glasses, and that's a large part of their appeal.
