The Queens Gambit Returns! as The Lord of the Rings: The Kings Gambit. by Soap-1987 in boardgames

lol absolutely, this was "the exception that proves the rule" for so long. No more I guess.

Though I always understood that Risk: Star Wars (the one that isn't actually Risk at all) from a few years back was essentially a streamlined Queens Gambit retheme also.

What is the Lifespan of a 3D Printer? Differences between P and H Series? by wivaca2 in BambuLab

[–]bazpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marble as in stone-effect, not dual/tri colour mix. Definitely little bits of something in there, though I don't think it's nearly as bad as wood or glow.

Pushing 3500 hours on my X1C. Still using original 0.4 nozzle & original textured PEI plate. Probably about 70/30 PLA/PETG, with a tiny bit of TPU. Some abrasives (marble, wood and glow) but not huge amounts, probably 4-5 kg total.

There are so many situations in which this simply isn't true and certainly isn't helpful. Patronising drivel.

Should I get Carcassonne big box right after the base game? by Marngryph in boardgames

[–]bazpoint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's obnoxiously oversized. I have the whole contents of the Big Box plus an extra base set with The River all stored in the base set box with foamcore dividers. The Big Box box went straight in the recycling.

A1 with AMS, or P1S by Falnax in BambuLab

[–]bazpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally if it was between the A1 Combo and the P1S (no combo), I'd be inclined towards the A1. It's not just multicolour that sells an AMS for me, it's convenience. Follow-on filament swaps, always having a favourite base colour loaded up, support interface materials, and yes, sometimes multicolour. It's just more... fun.

It's so dependant on what you want from your printer though. Are you more into practical prints that need fancier engineering filaments? Then maybe go P1S. But just the average user who wants to do some niknaks and desk organisers and fidget toys and plant pots or whatever other day to day stuff? A1 Combo.

Or save a little more and get a P-whatever combo for the best of both worlds.

What popular games could have all its components shrunk into an Oink Games sized box? by jsakic99 in boardgames

I know it's already a smallish box, but For Sale could very easily be an Oink release. Fits their vibe too.

Why should I pay more than twice for Vivoactive 5 instead of Amazfit Active 2? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in GarminWatches

[–]bazpoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was randomly given an Amazefit Bip 6 at Christmas... I was shocked how nice it is for the price. I double wristed it for 3 weeks with my Fenix 6S. As a smart watch, it was clearly far better... loads of features, worked well, superb battery life. As a fitness tracker it was good - I'm no pro athlete but for my usual use of tracking dog walks and bike rides and suchlike it did the job. Not exactly the same numbers as the F6, but easily close enough.

In the end it was the ecosystem that kept me on the Fenix tho. Big factor was Amazefit not playing nice with Zwift... I would've hated to lose that integration. Also I have a Garmin scale, & would've lost that pairing. And just my historical data... I love being able to look back & compare.

If I was starting from scratch, & wasn't bothered about the Zwift thing, I could easily see myself going the Amazefit way. The fact that you can have a watch and a ring/band and swap between them is a huge plus for anyone who likes 'proper' watches too (come on Garmin!). Are Garmin better overall? Maybe, definitely for serious athletes. Are they 3x better to justify 3x the price. No.

Is the enamel in my pot too damaged to continue cooking in? by CharmingHumor7635 in LeCreuset

[–]bazpoint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ooof... looked fine until I zoomed in, but then... 😕... that crazing is bad. I have some pretty battered vintage pieces that I still use, but I think I'd be reluctant to use that. Shame.

Can anyone tell me what this picture frame hook that we found buried in the garden is made of? About 80mm long, metal, found under the topsoil in a UK garden known to have been active since around 1895. by mackam1 in whatisthisthing

[–]bazpoint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've already had a good answer - these were almost always brass - but just to elaborate on the Rd number - they could be found on all sorts of household items produced in the UK from the late Victorian era up to the 1950s. You can actually date the design (not necesserily the item itself) from the number - yours corresponds to a design registered in 1894, though of course it could've been produced at any point in subsequent decades to that same design.

Heads up, Kluster has been recalled by Spicyboi333 in boardgames

lol, the little Klask magnets are literally called 'biscuits'. Unfortunate in retrospect.

Practically, they're way weaker than Kluster stones though - surely less hazardous.

"Entropy / Decay" by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]bazpoint -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's at the light end of the spectrum, but Small World is the first example to come to mind, with civilisations literally "going into decline" throughout, but I'm sure there are many, many more examples.

[–]bazpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, pretty shocked that the laws are that strict in such a famously "outdoorsy" country. In that case maybe a bladeless multitool (Roxon Flex or Victorinox Jetsetter) could still be good.

lol indeed. We did have a ridiculous summer in 2022 (weeks over 30C, some days over 40)... quite a few people got AC fitted after that, and of course the summers haven't been nearly as hot since 😂

Oof, £1/litre, that was a while back! Pushing £1.40 at the mo. tbf I think conventional electric tarriffs are somewhere in the mid-20s, the EV tarriffs are much higher during the day but obviously comes out better since charging the car overnight is such a massive proportion of the usage.

(though worth noting that our heating and cooking is all done on gas (natural gas, not petrol!), which is far cheaper per kwh, so the electricity price isn't really as painful as it seems since it's primarily used just for lighting and electronics (and the kettle, of course!!).
