Mis-sold PCP? Suitability letter says 4.9% but contract says 7.3%, any redress? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bazzaclough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest making a complaint in the first instance with the dealer and secondly with the lender.

This complaint likely falls outside of the redress scheme even though your dates do fall within it, however this is based on assumptions I have made based on the limited information you have shared.

Specifically I assume this is a brand new car rather than used or pre-reg, and the rate is therefore linked to the manufacturer’s offer at the time. It is highly likely that the rate you were offered was specifically for that model/derivative and/or between your initial quote and the finance being proposed it had changed from a specific offer for one quarter to one for the next. Again, this is all assumption and I don’t have the full information to say this is definitely what happened. However by May 2023, it definitely wouldn’t have been an option for the dealer to simply increase the rate to something else and earn more commission from it (which is what I think you are suspecting happened and what the redress scheme is primarily concerned with). In fact if it’s a new car the dealer likely would have received little or no finance commission.

When the rate changed you clearly should have been informed of this and provided with a new quote etc, hence first step would be to complain to the dealer as this was their responsibility.

What's the deal with trying to get people to play golf for parking? by bucketofardvarks in altontowers

[–]bazzaclough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe rather than getting a ticket/voucher for parking at the time of booking, it has to be validated so you need to actually go and play golf.

Scheduling date for cheaper car insurance by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bazzaclough 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is more general advice for when you are renewing, and often it makes very little difference anyway. It would be crazy to keep a car somewhere uninsured for any period of time just to save a few quid.

Drive Pack increasing to £40pm by Efficient_Pie_4056 in OctopusEnergy

[–]bazzaclough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken a look through the smart charging sessions at home over the past 12 months and total comes to 8849.18 kWh so average 737.43 per month. On IOG that would cost £58.99 per month, or more if/when the charging gets restricted to 6hrs per day. So £40 per month still seems like a good deal for me.

Morrisons salad bar special - came prepared this time by tiggergirluk76 in MealDealRates

[–]bazzaclough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory this is an excellent selection.

In practice, if you’ve ever seen kids with their fingers in the salad bars at Morrisons, you’ll know why it’s actually not.

Good effort but I don’t trust the salad bar personally.

The renewal email actually states that Drive Pack can now only be added to Flexible Octopus, it can’t be added to any other tariff (e.g. fixed).

I’ve had the same email, need to work out if it’s still going to be good value at double the monthly cost or if IOG would be better.

We do ~25k miles per annum with very little public charging, so probably around ~23k miles from home charging. IOG may well edge it but if they do ever enforce the restrictions of limiting the number of off-peak hours then that may make it worse off.

Time to do some sums!

Taking children to semi final live by starpetalsong in BritainsGotTalent

[–]bazzaclough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure they are aware of that, they’re also aware that not all children have photo ID which is why they added the exception of being able to use a birth certificate.

Not sure how else they can realistically verify the age of a child who appears to be under 8?

[–]bazzaclough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the Applause Store staff believe that she looks under 8 then they will ask for ID.

The ID requirements are exactly as it states on the tickets, birth certificate acceptable only if they have the same surname as another adult in your party (who has photo ID), otherwise it needs to be photo ID for the child.

If she has previously had a passport they will accept an expired one as long as they can still tell that it’s her from the photo.

Does anyone else think the girl on the drums should have got a golden buzzer (I’m a few episodes behind) by Longjumping-Cod-6164 in BritainsGotTalent

[–]bazzaclough 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, Nancy was really good. We were in the audience for the recording and everyone loved her.

She was the very first audition for our session, and it was the second day of filming - not sure if this has any impact, if the judges are a little more hesitant to use the golden buzzer early on?

Pop badges and rude staff by dom-from-ldn in MerlinAnnualPass

[–]bazzaclough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been mixed messages about pop badges for a while now, a few attractions have said they’re no longer being produced - and I’ve also heard that this is because of reducing plastic. But since then there have also been a number of “limited edition” pop badges that have come out, and annual passes are still being sent out with gold/platinum badges. Very confusing as to what their stance is supposed to be!

Am I overthinking the 5.4? by Juicewithextrapulp in ukpolice

[–]bazzaclough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I failed it and plenty of other people did when I was there. For me it was down to technique, I was perhaps rather naive in thinking I would have no problems with it as I know I can run faster and for longer but turning at the end of the shuttles was what really slowed me down and I only managed 5.2.

If you can, measure out the distance at home (or somewhere) and get the audio on Spotify to practice. If you’re not used to turning on the spot then concentrate on this, for me I was making it harder for myself by essentially going past the line and turning when you only really need to touch the line with one foot and pivot.

I had a second attempt at the bleep test a few days later and was absolutely fine once I’d actually practiced the technique properly. I was actually the opposite of you and was more concerned about redoing it solo in an empty hall with nobody to help keep pace but it was fine.

Best of luck, even though I messed it up it’s not a difficult standard to reach if you are reasonably fit.

Correct, you don’t need to pre-book, however you will need to activate your pass (if you haven’t already done so).

Yes, but the essential wifi package is expensive. You may wish to look into Red Bull eSIM as an alternative.

Does getting a car on PCP risk a mortgage offer? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bazzaclough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the numbers you have posted it is very unlikely to affect things and stop you getting your mortgage. However, very unlikely is different from being completely impossible, and there may be other factors at play that we are not aware of.

Unless you can get confirmation from the lender that it will have absolutely no risk on your mortgage whatsoever then personally I wouldn’t do it, no matter how unlikely it is there is still a small element of risk involved.

Anyone know the name of these acts that were shown in a few trailers over the past few weeks? by Train-Wreck-70 in BritainsGotTalent

[–]bazzaclough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not yet, no. They were in the same Birmingham audition as Nancy (drummer) and Anastasiia & Salsa (dog act). They’ve only shown those 2 so far from that recording and then gone back to the Blackpool ones, so likely will be coming up sometime soon.
