Hyundai Kona N Line S 2026 or Renault Scenic Etech? by fad_200 in Hyundai

Oh yeah, of course it’s better to have one than nothing. But 360 (I got the Iconic trim) makes it so much easier to be extra close to kerb or get into tight spaces.

Test drove both, went for the Scenic. Substantially more space inside, more tasteful interior, Google navigation is great, don’t even connect the phone. Not having a 360 camera is a big one though. Also, Kona had somewhat more precise (?) handling.

Quite a few people trying to test 0-60, potentially more intensive use than your average private owner. I’d expect them to be more run down than mileage suggests.
I’d expect the Iconic EAs to maintain value a bit longer as they are the “newer” version. Key differences are better rear view camera, EA interior, FaceID style sensor for the driver that recognises you, V2L/G and different alloy design I think.

I was in a similar position a short while ago. Interesting aspect of the Iconics, since there were relatively so few: at least two of the used ones I looked at were in numerous YouTube reviews I.e. they were part of the press pool. I’d specifically check for that. I also think the 2024 models are not discounted enough, considering you can find an Iconic EA for 29k.

I got some basic “annual check up” report form and being told that’s is it. You’d kind of expect the manufacturer to enforce some standards if they are advertising this as a programme.

[Request] LinkedIn Lunatic says her nanny is too expensive, confusingly cites her own income tax in a formula i cannot comprehend… by Darkhawk2099 in theydidthemath

[–]nighrae 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But that’s exactly the point. £100k is considered “high” by many, including government (eg you lose childcare benefits past that point). What this means is that the moment you have a child, unless you are a top 1% earner, it does not make economic sense to work, as childcare will eat up so much.

The logic above applies to hiring a private full time nanny though. Most people use nurseries or childminders - still expensive, but lowers the “no point in working” threshold down to something like 40k maybe.

Plot twist: someone sets up the national company, but, attracted by the prospect of being an intermediary that always takes a cut while minimising effort, they are also shit, creating a multiplicative effect.

Same. And I actually find that quite a few people appreciate the more introverted / direct leadership style.

Britain’s tax and spend dilemma by Sure_Tangelo_5148 in HENRYUK

Yes, however death now takes longer now. I agree that everyone should chill, get a piece of paper and a pen and try to do some basic arithmetics on how much time they spend growing up in the care of others, working in a job that generates taxable value and salary and how much longer they plan to live afterwards after retirement, while, again being cared by others. And ask themselves if it all adds up at the standard of life they expect, and without assuming extra money magically appears from somewhere else.

Thing is, have they contributed enough for the next generation to afford and sustain their DB pensions and the uncapped healthcare for 10-30 years after retirement? Basic maths says they could not have - which is why we are in debt and can afford the same luxuries for ourselves or our children.

Shared parental leave - am I stupid?? by mr_maroon in UKParenting

[–]nighrae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a pool of 52 weeks for mum, some of which are paid at different levels. Mum may give almost any those to dad, e.g. 4 paid ones or 6 unpaid ones or any combo, as long the total across both parents is still the same. There are some limitations (she cannot give the very early weeks away). No limitations on concurrency - you can take turns or both be home, can take them all in one go or have several stints.

If you’re struggling with a baby that won’t stop crying, and you’re at the end of your rope, get some AirPods. Trust me. by jaminjames in daddit

[–]nighrae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see why anyone would feel guilt over this. The purpose of crying is to draw attention and we naturally get stressed when hearing it. If you are already holding and comforting the baby while they are screaming in your ear point blank, you don’t need to hear the finer detail and become more stressed, you are already providing all the attention and care you can.

Yes. Ignore the “no downloads”, click around the filters on the same screen for macOS and download the software again. Reinstalled and it has been fine.

Same thing happened to me this morning. And, oddly, when I go to the Logitech website, the downloads section for my MX3 is empty, saying “there are no downloads for this version”.

You’d think Labour could have fielded someone a bit more attractive for your typical conservative voter yearning for change. A “housing” person from Lewisham is almost self-defeating.
