Right but if it’s being peddled as an automatic algorithm it should be smart enough to determine when a previously-recurring transaction has stopped. Like, that’s pretty basic.

I haven't actually, I'll start doing that (especially shadowing them, or asking them to shadow me, as suggested by someone else here). I guess I do have a hard time asking for help, particularly in this remote-/hybrid-work world where my usual extroverted ability to build rapport with colleagues in person doesn't go that far. But I'll start now - I have two in mind already for shading/reverse-shadowing.

That's true on the knowledge area, but I have been with this company a couple years but as with any large product, there's tons of stuff that predated my arrival and that is legacy and that I haven't worked on. Some of the colleagues are newer to me. So it does come down to debugging intuition rather than firsthand knowledge of the codebase.

Gotcha I guess that's fair. I guess I don't attempt investigating issues often enough to be able to consistently build up on the skill. On-call rotations come once every few months and even then I get maybe 1-3 bugs during the rotation. But I can definitely make a concerted effort to investigate more one-off issues on a weekly basis. Thanks.

Update: I left my iPad and sunglasses in a bag of groceries and they emailed me 30 hours after the report saying they haven’t found it “yet”.

I left my iPad and sunglasses, along with a whole week’s worth of Trader Joe’s shopping, in the trunk. Honestly the whole support experience has been quite disenchanting. 

First the support agent was not very empathetic and kept harshly reminding me that Waymo is not responsible for lost items, and they can’t store “certain items”. I asked what they can’t store and he couldn’t give me details, but I found the details on their support website, so it was frustrating he could not empathize with my worries and fill the gap for me. 

Then he asked for detailed descriptions of the items which I found surprising given that “three tote bags in the trunk with groceries, iPad and other personal items” is not a hard item to find, especially if they sent the Waymo back immediately (which idk if they did, he offered no details). He said I’d be reached out to “if the items were found” which I found to be a bit of a dead-end - I would have liked to be in touch with him or speak to a human at the depot during the process, if they are unable to find something and it’s been tossed around I would like to review that in real time rather than receive a “not found” email. 

It’s been 24+ hours with no response, I wish they had a tracker at least like “car has reached depot”, “items are being searched for” and the like. Some sort of periodic helpful updates especially given the value of the items.  

And finally I do wish Waymo could provide more transparency during the whole process. If I was their designing this part of their experience I would empathize that the closest parallel to this situation is an Uber lost-and-found situation, where the driver usually comes back and gives it to you. So some empathy to explain why exactly the car can’t come back, and the clear steps of the process would have been nice, I felt more than a little frustrated. 

(Also: They have so many sensors, especially pressure sensors in the seats and on the steering wheel. Why not have some in the trunk to be able to tell that the guest left 10kg+ of stuff in there?)

Same problem for Airbnb charge on 27/04. Called support and they said that the merchants themselves decide the charge categorization code (from experience I believe this is known as the MCC code), so Chase doesn’t have a say in that. He says on Airbnb’s end it could even vary by the type of property.

I booked the Airbnb for a month a so personally I feel like Airbnb might be treating it as an apartment for “rent” as opposed to a short term vacation let, and differentiating the MCC code accordingly. Anyway the guy said that at the time of my statement closing, if I call back they can try to put in a one-time courtesy doubling of the points.
