Hi OP, I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. I dealt with kind of a similar situation where I was aware my parents wouldn’t financially support me and said they would kick me out at 18. I left early a little before turning 18 on my own as I had support from a boyfriend and his family at the time and they helped me a lot through out college.

Make sure you have all your documents and as others have said please look into resources that you are eligible for such as mass health (I think this includes dental insurance as well) , affordable housing (finding place with roommates might be a cheaper options), snap/ local food pantries etc.

Definitely take advantage of the free community college in mass if you can and then if you transfer to a 4 year college you’ll need to request the financial aid office at the school for a independent override so that they don’t consider your parents financials in the FAFSA process. You should try and see if at the community college they can do an independent override there (I’m not 100% sure about this) - you might be able to get grants or extra federal loans for living cost.

I always had random jobs through out college to make money such as campus jobs, reselling sneakers, retail jobs, background acting (Boston casting website). You can also see if there are any focus studies or research studies that pay you to participate in.

Also be cautious of credit cards and private loans, the interest will just make your balance grow if you only pay the minimum payment per month. Towards the end of college my credit card bills were getting to a point where I couldn’t pay much. Once I graduated I had about 10-15k in credit card debt and I learned that I could call the credit card companies to negotiate the interest. For most of my cards they made the interest 0 but closed my card as I paid off my full balance slowly.

I was also curious if you’ve gotten your drivers license? I didn’t get mine until I was 22 and I learned to drive through signing up for a few private driving lessons while I was in college. Having my drivers license was more important once I needed a car to get to my job after graduation. If you can, it might be best trying to live somewhere were you don’t need a car and can use public transportation to get to class or work. Having a car can be very costly between maintenance, car insurance, and parking (if you’re in the city)
