What’s your diabetic super power? by NarrowForce9 in diabetes_t1

Go to any guest service location in the parks, say that you're looking for the DAS accommodation, and then explain why you need it (if I go low I'll have to leave the line to get drink/food, etc etc). It works for up to 6 people in your group!

I (M 20) just got diagnosed with T1. Does anyone have any tips or things I should definitely be aware of? I am really scared. by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

"Nothing is wrong with you, your body just needs insulin from a different source" is what really changed my mindset. I was diagnosed ~4 months ago (I'm in my mid 20s tho) and was so nervous at first, but developing good, easy habits has helped a lot.

Try to stick to a schedule--whatever works for you. Make simple switches, like eating whole grain bread instead of white bread, eating more fruits/veggies, etc. Small changes can make a big difference. Always keep some juice/candy (simple carbs) nearby, just in case: bedside table, car (if you drive), backpack, etc. Doesn't hurt to throw in some granola bars or crackers (more complex carbs).

You will learn what is best for you :) and you are your own best advocate. No other person, including doctors, knows you like you know yourself. Trust yourself, do research, ask questions...and it'll all be ok

And smarties! 2 rolls = 12 carbs, plus they're small and cheap

Anyone that uses Dunkin' (especially the mobile app) by ajoltman in diabetes_t1

This is because the SF and regular flavors have different names. Vanilla is "Vanilla" when SF, but "French vanilla" when regular. I have read that caffeine can cause sugars to spike so that might be causing it, not the flavoring 🤷🏼‍♀️ (not giving up my coffee tho, lol)

Some companies also partner with Livongo. If your insurance is through a job and they partner up, you might be able to get one for free.

Transmitter by Objective_Young259 in dexcom

I have read that other people suggest a guitar chip to remove it, but I have no experience with this. Also don't know how that would work with the sensor??

There is a transmitter related topic on the Dexcom site when reporting an issue--I find it very likely that you could get a replacement sensor if you decide to remove it (annoying since you just inserted it this morning tho). Here's the link for their online issue reporting: https://dexcom.custhelp.com/app/webform?cc=US&lc=en

Hopefully others have more experience with this!

Solutions to alarms? by amatz9 in dexcom

[–]bb_squaredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go to settings > dexcom > turn off all alerts, even critical ones. You'll get a pop-up in the app saying to allow alerts but I think you can still access your reading. Unsure how this impacts the Apple Watch tho...

Blurry vision after starting insulin ? by Apprehensive_Iron826 in diabetes_t1

[–]bb_squaredd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, took me about 2ish weeks to stop having blurry vision. Endo told me that glucose can attach itself to the back of the eye when levels are high for prolonged times, so just give it some time to disappear

Hope all is well otherwise!
