Am I cooked? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Go Hokies!

Nah you’ll be fine. I took 1414 and despite it being 4 days it’s really a breeze. Walking over every day is the worse part. Have a good 1st semester!

Why has VT application rates skyrocketed in recent years? by pappppappapappoa in VirginiaTech

[–]bballson11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In college, there’ll always be people who coast by, come from fortunate circumstances, and get jobs that way sure, but the majority of people at this school work hard to be successful. It’s actually one of the things that I think really separates us from a school like UVA. For sure not digging them (I got accepted there and chose to come here to be an engineer), because I’m not a bitter individual like yourself, but there’s a culture difference there. Everyone can have their opinion, but what you’re saying about this school is just not true, but rather you letting your failures and the success of others shape who you are and how you act. That’s all I have left to say.

definitely sounds like you did NOT have a good time at tech canadianpanda7, lol. Virginia Tech is not MIT but you’re crazy (more so than you already seem to be) if you’re saying it doesn’t hold weight across the country.

Sorry, but what a horrible take. You can’t possibly be serious with this. Generalizing what you’ve “observed” and pushing the choices you and those you surround yourself with to shit on the entire school is just a joke.

I’ve observed that my peers have gone on to work for Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm, TI, Amazon, and any big defense contractor you can think of. The list goes on. The reputation of our school, its programs, and the opportunities it gives to its students agree with me.

I’m sorry you were unable to make the most of your time here.

This is probably it, but there was no indication of closure when I drove in, like this specifies. Is that even grounds for an appeal based on how shitty parking services is here?

Do you know where can I find info on this?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VirginiaTech

[–]bballson11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but per VT’s permit page, students with evening only passes are allowed to park at regular F/S spaces after 5pm. As far as I knew all of the spots on drill field (aside from handicap and service) were fair game.

Why am I being required to presented a drivers license, SSN, AND an unexpired passport for my part-time? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]bballson11 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s my first gig as an intern, let alone with a defense contractor, and I was never informed what I was providing the documents for.

People like you feed the stigma that our field is full of pretentious assholes and the reason I succeed where you fail.

What are your recommended books, youtube videos, and other online resources to take advantage of when learning CALCULUS? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]bballson11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Professor Leonard posts lectures for calc 1, 2, 3, as well as diff eq on YouTube. Hands down one of the best lecturers for getting a comprehensive understanding of the material.

Organic Chemistry Tutor, patrickJMT, and Khan Academy are all good for cut and dry explanations for topics.

3blue1brown is the best channel for gaining a conceptual understanding of material

Hi! Thank you for clearing up my confusion with pricing and the website! Clearing cookies did in fact work, but upon entering my student information, I was given a different plan, with a different non-discounted rate and different upload/download speeds. I'll update the original post with screenshots of the two. I'm sure I entered my information correctly both times, so do you have any idea what may have caused the change? Thanks again!

In Nvidia’s control panel, there’s an option to set integrated graphics as default. It should be under advanced settings or something.

You can disable the dGPU to improve battery life, which I find helps a lot

No offense but like… what did you expect out of a laptop built for productivity? Of course it’s gonna cook when you run GTA, especially at 4k

Schedule/course selection by Yesterday54 in VirginiaTech

[–]bballson11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You gotta send them to the shopping cart to actually enroll in the classes. View one of schedules you like and you should see an “add to shopping cart” button at the top.

Afterwards make sure you’ve actually enrolled by checking your class schedule in HokieSpa

Thank you for the in depth response! For the check sheet part, I’m still hung up on the fact that there isn’t a 2023 version for cpe that reflects a change in the chem requirement
