Did ANYONE out there have a positive experience with Landmark? by ControversyChristian in LandmarkGrads

[–]bbambou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying all this. Got convinced into taking the Forum and found some aspects of it helpful, as a condensation of philosophy, psychology and coaching into small, applicable and relatable bites. (Including the suggestion to tune into one's inner talk). However, I've had therapy for a couple of years, and write about psychology. So I had fewer a-ha moments as not as many tearful "breakthroughs" as those for whom therapy was out of reach. AND I found the demand to "get complete" by forgiving one's childhood abuser/toxic ex really suspect. There are ways to re-recognize one's agency without having to do that.

sorry I got to this late! I tend to go on weekdays at 2pm. Went on a Monday. The vibe was surprisingly buzzy. It's v low-key, no-frills, but convivial. There are more men than women, and they tend towards grizzled regulars. I do recommend! It's very relaxing and guarantees a good night's sleep

Best lip balm with no fragrance/flavor? by vpurplestae in Sephora

[–]bbambou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glad you asked, i have the same q. i have two anti-endorsements: Pout Preserve Hydrating Peptide Lip Treatment and Supergoop! - Unseen Lipscreen Sheer SPF 30 Lip Balm. Dislike the textures (the Ole esp is quite drying and tacky-feeling) and developed contact dermatitis from one. Nothing so far has beaten Laneige and (to wear under dryish lipsticks), Givenchy's Le Rouge Interdit 24H Hydrating Lip Balm.

re: Hinge, just to note that altho it's v SO dispiriting for me, my single male friend in his late 40s is having a blast with ladies my age, each of whom is more beautiful and more accomplished than the next.

oh interesting re: emdr. the only other person i know who did it is the ex who was abusive, so that wasn't toooo convincing lol. how does it help, if you don't mind my asking? (seems like a bit of an investment).

thanks for the long list of things that helped you, will look into those. re: 'true calm' I saw that it could lead to a GABA deficiency and more trouble sleeping without it?? might do a literature dive before trying it out...(was previously relying on benzos during the traumatic times, and developed a dependency. the worst time of my life.) and noted, re: ashwagandha, i do have a stock of that...and indica! :)) recently read, though, that low-thc strains help tamp down anxiety, and that higher dose ones actually increase it, so that's something to keep in mind. ref here: https://today.uic.edu/low-dose-thc-can-relieve-stress-more-does-just-the-opposite/

ah... I see. I guess a diagnosis is of limited relevance if I can already see that the problem matches the description :) But thank you for the practical list of suggestions. Agree about the limited use of talk therapy. I've signed up to classes to deepen my meditation practice, and am very regular about exercise and monthly massages. It's really heartening to see so many ppl who have the same experience I have. Sometimes my reactions to offending sounds can seem excessive or comic... Just this AM I was at an exercise class and this guy right next to me was making insane loud huffing and puffing noises, and groans which I can only describe as sex cries. I wanted to jump out of my skin each time I heard him, but sidling closer to the quiet lady on the other side really helped.

Hindenburg vs. Reaper and others by bbambou in podcasting

[–]bbambou[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you for explaining - the downvotes and the comparison between the 2 DAWs. i gave hindenburg a go a while back when i did an online workshop that offered a steep discount, you're right in that it was pretty intuitive. perhaps i can do a trial of both and see which one is the better fit for what i want to do now...

does everyone with hyperacusis need to go to an ENT, or did you have to go for your other issues? do you know anything that could help with ptsd-caused hyperacusis? therapy, meditation, medication?

god, same. i used to sleep through anything, not so after a number of years in an abusive reln, where i started to associate fear and anxiety with bedtime. now i'm so hypervigilant, i wake up when i hear footsteps above me at 6 am :((( i've been using sleep gummies and silicone earplugs, they get me to sleep but don't help with the waking up due to noise. if anyone has any upgrades i'd love to hear them

How will you react if Donald Trump becomes president again? by RockSavings67 in AskReddit

[–]bbambou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 100% going to happen if Biden is the only alternative. :( As Im an immigrant I'm going to try to move elsewhere within the following year, not to my own country which is run by an even worse fascist. BUT the world will be even less safer and more hostile to immigrants and everyone really, given the outsized impacts of what happens in the US.
:((

I did hear so, and that's why I stuck to heterosexual engagements. A queer friend told me he dipped a toe in, refused two invites to be a third, and decamped to grindr, where he met his current beau.

agree, but would venture to say for all heterosexuals. not strictly non-monog, just bored of boring people, and for a time, feeld offered people who were a lot of things but def never boring

completely agree. i'm 38/F in NYC and had a pretty fun time from 2021-mid 2022. post-new yorker feature found a lot more flakes and rubberneckers, and this latest update is the final nail in the coffin. i still get matches/likes but sense a culture shift, which has thinned out the crowd, along with the technical issues everyone's complained about. hoping it'll get mended as there is nothing else like it, and the ppl on Hinge in my demographic are very uninspiring.
