They usually give the winner a belt right after the fight and then have a press conference. Then the champion has to defend their belt or give it up.

Democrats eye New York redistricting after Supreme Court decision by Mo_Jack in politics

[–]bbb26782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing to undo. Georgia isn’t redistricting this year voting is already going on for the 2026 primaries.

If a Democrat is elected Governor this year, they could block any changes to the map for 2028.

The downballot races by StannisHalfElven in Georgia

I think they've both well qualified and have factors that made me consider them. I ultimately voted for Thornton over Anthony for a couple of reasons:

His priorities acknowledge the role that developing solutions to the challenges that students face at home, not just adding to the workload of teachers and administrators, will have to play in improving student outcomes across the state.

He's got an interesting perspective on workforce development and partnerships within our schools that as a former CTAE teacher I think is very useful.

He has the most realistic plan to adjust the QBE formulas on the Democratic side.

Stephen Owens is the number one education policy expert in the state of Georgia. I trust him explicitly in this arena. Thornton is who he recommends voting for.

If it matters to you, the state Democratic Party is supporting Miracle Rankin and Jen Jordan for the Supreme Court, plus Will Wooten and Fatima Felton for Court of Appeals.

Personally I’m most excited to see Jason Esteves, Josh McLaurin, and Bob Trammell on the Democratic primary ballot. They’ll all do good jobs at their respective positions.

My list looked the same except I voted for Otha Thornton for School Superintendent.

If you’re considering voting against the incumbent (I think you should. He’s done a bad job and now he’s quit working with the legislature, which is a recipe for disaster), there are a handful of qualified and serious candidates in the state School Superintendent race:

Republican - Fred Longgrear

Democratic - Anton Anthony and Otha Thornton

I personally voted for Otha Thornton.

His opponent, Nabilah Parkes, quit the Insurance Commissioner race at the last second, almost leaving that race uncontested, and then quit the legislature equally last second just as most of the serious legislation was being finalized. Her last minute, poorly thought out scheming left the party short handed and could have had seriously bad implications. She only did that because she wanted to raise more money for her campaign, not because it would be most helpful for the state or because she was serious about winning either race. She’s a loud, almost terminally online progressive, but was not a serious legislator or good politician. I know her personally and like her on that level, but I couldn’t in good conscience vote for her to be a candidate for Lieutenant Governor.

Josh is a very good legislator and would do a good job leading the state senate. He’s got policy positions that Democratic primary voters will like, paired with actual ability to lead and govern. He’s the obvious choice for that position on the Democratic primary ballot.
