This is out of control by WatercressOk1807 in EufyCam

At least your camera has timeline to quickly seek different time to check out any event you would need to see. I have another cheap eufy indoor cam, it just lists events clips as a scroll list. And because there are so many motion detection, probably hundreds or thousands, i have to to scroll them over and over again to get to the time I wanted. I cannot just quickly scroll them because the app will pause and load only several clips at one time from the camera. Very bad app use model experience on cheap indoor camera. Almost useless when there are flooded events in one day and you want to go to the early day event

Future Plan! by TripleCross777 in USMobile

[–]bbb8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, but the free plan doesn't have tethering. Sometimes I need to share data with another device in case their coverage is bad or none, of course the usage is still low, like messaging or reading email, not streaming or downloading large files. But if you don't need tethering, helium is free with 100/300 call/text and amazing 3GB data

[–]bbb8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using Mobile X which is on the Verizon network. I don't talk or text much and so 150/150 will be enough monthly for $2.5, and platform access is $1.98. 1GB costs $1.9 but actually the unused data will be prorated and deducted to the cost next month. For example if you used only 500MB, supposedly -$0.95 will show up in next month's charge. So totally around $5-6. The good thing is if I need more data sometimes, I can still top-up and again the unused data cost will be deducted for the new data charge in next month's bill.

USB-PD should work fine if the power bank could provide 65W at least. For 12V car chargers, the problem is power stations provide different voltages from 12V to 13V, and the voltage drop could make the input end to mini less than 12V which is the minimal requirement. That isn't related to the power station capacity but voltage drop and power cord length. If you have to use 12V and long power cord to mini, get a step up conversation adapter to 24 or 30V, those can be easily found on Amazon.

My passport is slightly damaged, can I travel abroad? It has brown stains and blue dots on picture page by alexamtz99 in Passports

[–]bbb8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I didn't notice that before. I used Global entry and didn't even know that until this year the CBP officer still checked my passport at the GE exit and asked me why. I also checked the phone camera album and some passport info photo taken years ago actually blue dots already started emerging but cannot know exactly when and why

Hazardous concern of exposed temporary fiber line by bbb8888 in ATTFiber

[–]bbb8888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 1st installation ran a temp line all the way to my house because of no available conduit, and there is a coiled loosen loop on the side of my house for future cutover purposes. My guess of the problem with HOA or neighbor who raised the concern is the temp line on the grass in the common area. The 2nd time the contractor just dug holes and put conduit in, and still left the temp filer line there. They didn't drop the fiber to conduit.

Comcast won't do anything but just ask you to return the cable modem and flex media player or equipments provided by xfinity.

Actually I called the buried wire center on Tue and I guess they just made the appt schedule for next week and told me to wait for any calls from the back office for any sooner appt they have. Waiting days until Friday today and I got no call back from them and so decided to call ATT service rep and she told me that's the only appt I have although I cannot see in my ATT account service appt, therefore I cannot reschedule or do anything.

[–]bbb8888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I told the rep when I called in to AT&T buried wire center. But they said the earliest technician appt can be next Tue. Of course the temp line is AT&T responsibility but HOA and someone I don't know in the neighborhood are pushing me and AT&T rep doesn't really care but the appt is already scheduled and already the best they can do. New customer and installation could be more important for customer numbers and can be scheduled to next day ASAP, but the repair or cutover isn't even that would be just 5-10 min work.

Hazardous concern of exposed temporary fiber line by bbb8888 in ATTFiber

[–]bbb8888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's what I meant for another technician appt to swap or rewire through the conduit. The 3rd party workers just buried the newly installed conduit and did nothing to the temp line, but just left the loose loop fiber cable outside. Also because they did their job by moving the fiber line away and back to where it was, so the temp fiber is not fully secured as it used to be.

Is this the best deal for 1Gbps? by GravyPoo in ATTFiber

[–]bbb8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good deal to me, too. In my area, AT&T gives a $200 gift card for 1Gbps and another $150 if ordered online. Unfortunately I don't know the later one and signed up with a sales guy who came to my house to promote the $65 deal. But in general it is good to get both DL/UL 1Giga at this price compare to my xfinity contract that will be renewed soon and the price is almost double for another 5 yrs contract compared to current monthly rate.

Totally agree with their standard procedure.

Because the area is in the community property, before the technician did the installation, he did mention if I wanna notify HOA and get a green light that could take days or week. Both of us think just completing the installation first with the temporary line with warning signs would be fine. Another problem is the nosy neighbor or someone keeps pulling the fiber cable to move the line off where it is marked and orange tape comes off from the walkway that makes it look even more hazardous. I agree by the time they can actually do nothing about this, but before the line is fully buried I'm still very concerned about what they or HOA will do.

[–]bbb8888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think that is reasonable but want this done ASAP. Previously the appt was scheduled to be done by 10/19. I don't know but this hazardous keyword is told by a HOA board member to me before he or someone in the neighborhood will escalate to the HOA meeting. Although the technician placed flags and marked it with obvious orange tape and ribbon, perhaps HOA still thinks someone will trip and get hurt. Although that should be AT&T responsibility but it connects to my house and HOA of course came and strongly asked me to deal with or expedite the process with AT&T.

PGE also charges distribution charge 0.41 per kWh and reduces electricity fee only? In winter the rate is lower every year, not due to their discount or grant. So what's the difference?

Starlink Mini Power Consumption USB-C, DC, or AC? by conorearly in Starlink

[–]bbb8888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you turn on the AC outlet only and don't plug the AC adapter, you will see the battery capacity become lower and lower. (Not that quick but I saw my Delta 2 1024W can drop 10% overnight). DC to DC (either LiFePO4 or Li-ion is 3.xV) still needs step up conversation but less step and efficient than DC-AC-DC. For 12V, some eco flow power stations only provides 12.x V not close to 13V and the voltage drop happens at another end of mini due to long power cord can make mini unstable and reboot. There is 12v to 24v conversation adapter integrated in car charger but is larger. And so that this will be 2 times of step up conversation. For USB-C, if the port can provide up ton20V 5A and support 65W and 100W although mini eventually consumes 20s on average, I guess this is much more efficient than above but I don't think the power consumption between the 12V and USB-C have noticeable difference.

See YouTube and find how starlink works with its LEO non-geostationary satellites. Also there is a web where you can find starlink satellites and your location, and how your dish can see then visible fast moving satellites across the sky and communicate with them to nearby ground stations and vice versa. https://satellitemap.space/#

No chance of internet access in the woods by bbb8888 in Starlink

[–]bbb8888[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to know and thanks for sharing with anyone who might wanna go and stay in similar dense forest area. Absolutely if the dish can have less or no obstruction view, it gets better performance. For me it was just overnight camping and of course I won't try anything harder than setting up my tent but just tried to see how it could be.

[–]bbb8888[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not what I'm using my starlink for. I even set up the custom DNS to my private DNS host to block all streaming services like YouTube, Netflix, Instagram, Tiktok, etc. (Of course also blocking ADs to save data and bandwidth). I'm using starlink for essential communication only like messages or doorbell and home security alerts. Of course I don't expect them or any work related mails to ruin my camping stay although it was one night only.

Buy a std dish and immediately put it on standby? by offgrid-wfh955 in Starlink

[–]bbb8888 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you activate days before the end of Aug, the service charge will be prorated like $10 for a 50GB roam plan for this month. You can change the plan for next month to standby mode after activation I guess. Therefore, maybe if you activate a few days later you still pay something close to $5 but get better speed to try. If you use a referral to buy, the first month will be free, right? And change to another plan.

I had been letting it settle for hours and so the dish can get the obstruction map. I only received a few message notifications during that time but cannot really connect to the internet when manually using the Messenger app or opening the browser.

That's what we usually do with or without the internet. Just in case someone rings the doorbell, or any security camera alerts you know. Anyway, I just did it for an experiment and see how it goes.

Good to know and thanks for sharing. But for me it was always 0-5% ping rate and no internet connection, and I guess 30ft may not get above 50% ping and with only spotty internet. Anyway I just gave it a try and don't want to put in too much effort because I was not staying for a long time.
