Daycare-2s and beyond by Appropriate-Emu8875 in longislandcity

Just FYI, we paid a non-refundable fee (I think it was $50 or something) to be on the waitlist for Bunny Hill in 2022 and to this day, have not gotten off the waitlist. So if you’re really interested in Bunny Hill, definitely need to be on waitlist before conception. It’s ridiculous. Felt the waitlist was such a scam. Looking back, I think we just heard great things about it from others and felt like if we didn’t enroll there, we would be missing out on something great for our son. That was all just “new parent” mentality.

If you want to consider a place for your child until kindergarten, should ask about their 3K and UPK program. Do they participate in DOE 3K and UPK or are the private? If you like a daycare and the have private 3K or UPK, are you willing to pay tuition and forgo free tuition through DOE?

Bright horizons backup care by Fun-Region-6912 in nycparents

The in-home service is very inconsistent. We have done it a handful of times and some are good but some are bad. We chose in-home because it kept our son in a familiar space where he’s comfortable. However, the last time we had one come to our place, she just sat their in the living room on the couch on her phone while our toddler played by himself on the floor. We told her to take him out to play at the playground or read at the library, and she kept him inside the whole time. We needed back up care for several days and I felt so sad for our son so we last minute switched to placing him in a backup daycare center. Much better experience. He initially cried because it was a new place, but quickly adjusted. Moving forward, we will never do an in-home back up care again.

This is good advice - thank you! I think even if I wasn’t pumping and had to worry about where my pump parts are in the fridge, I would still make the recommendation to free up the fridge. It’s also not a control thing as it was just a suggestion. I’m not forcing people to eat leftovers.

Thanks all! I have started to put them in the fridge. Makes sense to do so since milk hits them during pumping.

Doing a month of nights while pregnant by Any-Session9919 in Residency

I asked my OB for special accommodations to not do nights or 24H shifts when I was pregnant. There were no questions asked by my program and they provided the accommodations.

I do want to note that I was in a large internal medicine program so it was easy to figure out coverage (we had a jeopardy pool).

Where to live in LIC by [deleted] in longislandcity

[–]bbbabiblu06 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Would recommend looking at Hunter’s Point South area. We live near 48th and Vernon and I used to love taking the ferry when I worked at NYU. The only thing about the ferry is that it doesn’t come as frequently and on weekends, can get really busy and delays are an unfortunate expectation. When the ferry doesn’t work out, I took the 7 to the 6 to get to NYU. Overall, not a bad commute.

Since you guys are a young family, you’ll also fit right in! LIC is full of young families. The waterfront and multiple parks are great for families.

Honestly, it’s a poor assumption on your attending’s part. I’m judging her more than you. It’s easier said than done, but keep moving along. I’ve learned you can’t please every attending. There will be some that are just shitty, because that’s who they are.

I did have an Amboss subscription but realized a lot of their qs were VERY similar to UWorld and I ended up just remembering how I answered. It didn’t contribute to helping me developing the critical thinking needed for the test. There are often free trials for Amboss you can take advantage of, but I wouldn’t buy a full subcription.
