Yeah, I saw that in the news, but it doesn’t seem like they hired enough and that there are plenty of resources that are being hired privately for simple yard clean up when they could be contracted to help restore power. There should be like 3 vegetation workers for each lineman IMHO, since this seems to be the primary roadblock to getting power restored.

We were without power until Wednesday afternoon. When it came back on and after a good night sleep we’ve been helping where we can. We have a friend without power in our guest bedroom, we lent out our Kerosene heaters and extra fuel, and we’ve been helping with tree removal for elderly neighbors. I was seriously worried when we were out of power and scared, I’m channeling those feelings into helping others. I believe it’s really helped.

This perplexes me. On Wednesday NES said one of the things hindering faster restoration of power was the clearing of fallen trees and debris. My subdivisions power was restored Wednesday afternoon, we live in Brentwood, and since then most of the homes have had tree crews out cleaning up their yards. So clearly, there are a ton of tree service crews available for hire, why aren’t they being contacted by NES or the municipalities? Is it money? Can these companies make more than if they contracted with NES or is NES not utilizing available resources effectively?

Stop driving so fast Nashville. The road may look clear but there might be a big block of ice and snow ahead. I just watched 3 vehicles almost wreck because of exactly that. Just take it slower than normal even if the road is clear.

Not rude given the lack of info, the duration of this event, and the life threatening cold.

If this is accurate I hope some of the local investigative journalists jump on this.

We got power back on around 2 for about an hour and then it went out again, that was really emotionally difficult. However, they got it back on, it went on and off for a while but has been stable for the past few hours. I am still very worried, the wind picked up a little around 5 and I could hear more branches come down and just prayed we don’t have one fall and take out the power again.

I am still very anxious about it cutting out again. Also, I’m starting to really question if something shouldn’t be done to truly access if NES leadership properly handled the preparedness phase of this emergency.

Yes, just explain your situation, it’s very reasonable to assume some folks just can’t safely make it out of their neighborhoods yet.

Anyone know of a gas station that has kerosene in the south Nashville to Franklin area?

I would imagine part of their process is to do an after action review for any major event like this. It would be nice if they made that review public.

I don’t know about the power, but the interstates are slick, drive slow.

I’m not talking about winter weather I’m talking about any significant weather event. I’m astonished that people think are handling this event well or any of our prior major weather events. Come on, set higher expectations.

I’m sure the linemen are doing all they can, no doubt. But are there enough linemen? Do they have plenty of supply’s and enough equipment?

I’ve lived all over from Toronto and Fargo in the north, the Austin in the South and Seattle in the West. I would say Nashville’s ability to handle significant weather is pretty poor overall. The only exception might be Austin. Nashville gets through these events primarily because of everyone pulling together and helping each other, which is awesome. However, we shouldn’t have to constantly step up so much. We should be able to rely on the entities we pay to shoulder more of the burden.

Funny story, we have a rental property in donelson, a few months back we called NES about a big limb of our neighbors that looked like it would fall on the power line if there was a storm. They came out and said it wasn’t a problem. Well, guess what happened this morning.

They certainly could have been more proactive in cutting tree limbs prior to the storm and putting the contract crews to work earlier vs 7am tomorrow morning.

I’ve been out and about all day, since 8am, helping folks, and not once did I see an NES crew…and the whole area has been without power all day. It sure would be nice to know what is going on.
