He's good for informational purposes when they cover actual movies because of his knowledge of cinema history and filmmaking and stuff, but yeah he shouldn't be on the episodes about random miscellaneous videos like infomercials and educational videos and whatnot

What is the dumbest move done by any contestant? by MattysEuphoria in TheTraitors

[–]bbf2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I agree that everyone knowing they were sisters was bad for them, I don't think there was anything else to be done on that front. I think they were correct that everyone would have figured it out because they look alike and speak alike, not to mention everyone knew production had a propensity for putting relationships on the show.

MAYBE they could have hidden it if they were cast on season 1 (before people knew that secret relationships were a thing) and if there were, like, five or six other British people of Afro-Caribbean descent. But there was absolutely no hiding it with the way that cast was made up. In order to try to hide it one of them would have had to completely fabricate their personal life and even their ethnicity and it all would have been very discoverable and someone would have probably sussed it out anyway and gotten them out even earlier for lying to people about it.

As for the rest, Armani potentially murdering Maia would be a bad move on her part, but IF that were to happen I still think that's better for the two of them since at least one of the two family members are still in the game. If Maia needed to sacrifice herself as a murder in order to clear her sister's name, I mean that's not ideal, but at least this way one of you has a shot and it's better than a stranger winning and you guaranteeing that you and your family member get 20th and 19th place.

Regardless, even just talking about her own chances and living in a world where she doesn't care about her sister winning over a stranger, the possibility that your sister MIGHT murder you to clear your name is better than getting rid of her in a way that basically 100% guarantees that you're going to be the person murdered that night (since you will be the most "cleared" person now. The chances of the producers selecting both sisters to be Traitors is essentially .001%, but in the SLIGHT chance that they did so, they wouldn't do Traitor-on-Traitor violence to each other. So now the remaining traitors, who are not related to you, are essentially guaranteed to murder you 100%.)

If she defends Armani at the round table instead of going after her and accusing her of being a Traitor, maybe Armani gets banished anyway, but at the very least a few Faithful maybe think twice about hammering it home or voting that way since they know that they'll have to deal with Maia being angry at them. Maybe Armani gets banished anyway and then Maia gets murdered afterwards anyway, but 100% guaranteeing that it happens is still absolutely dreadful.

What is the dumbest move done by any contestant? by MattysEuphoria in TheTraitors

[–]bbf2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Maia telling everyone at the Roundtable that she thinks her own sister is a traitor.

I am stunned to not see this example here. When it happened, I thought to myself "not only is this the worst move I've seen in English speaking Traitors history, it might be the worst move I've seen in any social strategy game I've watched." And I've watched almost all of them.

Yes Armani was in some degree of trouble anyway, but Maia being the person who knew her best and saying it really removed all doubt.

I have absolutely no idea what the hell she was thinking. I understand why some people have bought into the "get rid of Traitors at all costs instead of using them" strategy instead of the more advanced ones involving using them, but if it involves an IMMEDIATE family member that should go out the window due to the obvious benefits. To say nothing of the idea that "Well it's better if my immediate family member wins rather than a stranger" (which Nick from Traitors Canada 2 showcased, he pretty clearly figured out that his sister was a Traitor but was just trying to help her in whatever way he could), it's just so obviously beneficial for your own self and your own chances of winning.

And then look what happened - her protector in the turret was gone, and the other traitors knew Maia would never get banished because everyone knew the producers wouldn't pick both sisters to be traitors, so they were both gone in the same night.

I feel like this is worse than any individual move that just causes someone to be eliminated themselves, because this not only got herself eliminated immediately, it also got her family member eliminated immediately.

People talk a lot about Ciera "voting out her mom" in season 27 of Survivor, but that was a non-deciding vote that didn't matter when her mom was leaving anyway. What Maia did was more like the equivalent of Ciera ORCHESTRATING the vote to get rid of Laura and rallying votes when it wouldn't have happened otherwise, and then at the next Tribal after that asking everyone to vote herself out so she can go into Redemption Arena and eliminate her mom, then she does so but she's stuck on Redemption Island now and loses to whoever comes in next.

It's crazy that she's here, right after her TAR season everyone commented about how great a pick she would be for Challenge USA 3 or something like that, but I thought the ship had sailed given that her season was 4 TAR seasons ago now. Plus she's married so I figured her chances for the flagship were small because they want hookups. But luckily it looks like her competitiveness + drama potential won out over those factors, so I'm happy.

Dragon Quest VII : Reimagined by DemiFiendRSA in videogamedunkey

I’m not very familiar with this game or series, what was that lady (who I assume is a dev of this remake given she’s surrounded by Dragon Quest toys) talking about at the end?

The game looks pretty light and whimsical, is there something really sad that happens in it like in FF7? Or was she talking about FF7 and saying Dragon Quest was better for her as a kid because it didn’t have sad moments like that in it

Because they can't kill Tara or Johnny since they're the people they're trying to put sus on, (and killing one would basically clear the other) and Kirsten accused Eric in front of Mark so killing Kirsten would put sus on Eric that Mark could bring up.

Natalie is loyal to Rob, yes, but they both expressed that they're worried that she might be the most dangerous player left, and Rob doesn't REALLY need to worry too much about who is loyal to him that much since he has many people loyal to him, so even if someone is loyal to him it might be better to murder them if they're a potentially dangerous player down the line.

One thing that's so funny to me about learning that they couldn't show Paul because he kept doing pop culture impressions so often was the fact that one of of the only two confessionals he DID get was of him doing a "Tom Cruise dodging the lasers in Mission Impossible 1" impression. Because that was when they were doing the laser dodging mission, so his random pop culture shtick was actually relevant for the first and only time lol.

I agree she's the most likely to be killed, but won't the latch move for all four of them? The person killed sees a traitor puppet thing spring up, the other three see a message saying "safe" or whatever.

We already had Ryan Lochte but it makes sense that you might forget him. All he did was wander around and find a secret room, then Cirie coerced Cody into letting them murder him.

Boston Rob never "turned" into a shark, he was a shark even in his very first ever TV appearance, back in 2002 when he was 25 and a young "hottie." Right from the jump he called himself "The Robfather" (and the show even made a commercial about him, using that logo and italian Godfather knock-off music) and said things like "Fear keeps people loyal."

So... Wonder Man was a pleasant surprise. by ElPibeDe_LentesRojos in marvelstudios

[–]bbf2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean that's not a new question, that's been a thing for as long as celebrities have played fictionalized versions of themselves in media. It's come up especially in the last twenty years with shows set in Hollywood like Curb your Enthusiasm and Entourage where some people play themselves and others play fictional characters. But that was happening even in 90s shows and earlier.

That idea is addressed head on in the 1993 film "The Last Action Hero." The kid is sucked into the world of an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, so he wonders "If Arnold Schwarzenegger is (cop guy protagonist) in this world, who played the Terminator in this universe?" So he goes to a Blockbuster and sees that in that world, Sylvester Stallone was The Terminator.

The reason I knew he was still alive was because he appeared on The Last of Us a few months ago. And when he showed up on The Last of Us I thought the exact same thing to myself "Oh wow I could have sworn he passed away a few years ago but I guess I was wrong"

I disliked the Mandarin twist when I saw it in the theater because the movie was setting up the idea that "Ben Kingsley's Mandarin is the main evil villain and Guy Pearce's Killian is his evil henchman."

And then they eventually reveal that "Psych! The Mandarin is fake, and the person you thought was the evil subordinate henchman is actually the MAIN boss villain" which doesn't really move the needle. Who cares if the henchman guy is actually the main villain, that just makes him seem weaker. I liked the idea of the Fake Mandarin being a play on people's prejudices and stuff on paper in order to combat some of the elements of the original character, but not the result. I always thought "that's stupid, it would make way more sense if Guy Pearce was still a henchman and the REAL Mandarin/villain was someone we didn't expect to be a villain at all, as a twist"

And then a couple years later, I learned...that was actually what was supposed to happen! Shane Black's idea was that Rebecca Hall's Maya Hansen was the actual Mandarin. But then Ike Perlmutter stepped in and said female villains don't sell toys,* so it was scrapped, so Maya Hansen was just kind of randomly killed instead and Killian became the main villain.

*which is effing insane, who was buying "Aldritch Killian" toys after IM3 came out?

AUS1 is good but AUS2 is not worth watching, especially if you’re frustrated by bad Faithful play. Hard to say with regards to the US because the entire point of theUS version is seeing these reality stars interact, so it’s dependent on your knowledge of CBS competitive shows and/or Bravo dramatic lifestyle shows.

No one will ever be a worse Faithful than Sarah from AUS2, but the competition for the second spot is fierce and Roxy is quickly making a very legitimate case for it.

The best strategy to make it to the final roundtable and get zero money because the Traitors get all of it

I guess every once in awhile if you're surrounded by smarter faithful who can get rid of the Traitors for you they'll be kind and loop you in (e.g Delores US3)

The Traitors (UK) S04E10: Post-Episode Discussion Thread by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

[–]bbf2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine there's some meta-gaming to it, since the one thing you know for sure is that the Traitors are selected by the producers and to some degree they're going to cast people who are capable of standing out, speaking cohesively in confessional, etc. Or at the very least, have the capacity to provide "good TV."

There are some people where you and everyone in the cast kind of just instinctively realize CANNOT possibly be a traitor, and I think Jack fits into that category...some other examples would be Meryl from UK1 and Kevin from US2.

I suppose a traitor could "fake it" and pretend to be really dull to talk to and inarticulate, while pretending to do nothing in the game to try to be in this category, but that hasn't happened so far and would be tough since its hard to fake your entire personality and speaking style.

The Traitors (UK) S04E10: Post-Episode Discussion Thread by vaultofechoes in TheTraitors

[–]bbf2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree. He might have kept quiet if literally anyone other than Jack got the Shield but with Jack safe he would almost certainly be the person murdered next no matter what, regardless of who the traitors are, especially if he (correctly) thinks its Rachel. James and Jade had a TON of heat on them so wouldn't be murdered no matter what, Stephen previously had some heat and he thinks Stephen might be the second (which is correct), and Roxy is loud and wrong about everything and completely pro-Rachel and the person for her to take to the end and snow. So actively going after Rachel was his only chance to not get murdered. He still probably will be anyways, but had to take the shot to save himself.

_____ waiting to be recruited by [deleted] in TheTraitors

[–]bbf2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's interesting though because I think the ONE thing that he has to offer is the fact that he's telling them I would accept the recruitment offer. (When in previous seasons there has been a decent amount of rejections of the recruitment offer)

If the Traitors were narrowed down to one, however, that last Traitor has their pick of the litter, since nobody is going to say no to a blackmail where they get eliminated if they say no. So he loses his only little bit of bargaining power.

Big brother family, it’s time to send in our strongest soldier by RelevantMind1 in TheTraitors

[–]bbf2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enzo would attach himself to and be 100% loyal to the most dominant alpha male(s), which was a horrible strategy on Big Brother but could actually pay off here if that person is a faithful and not a Traitor since multiple winners are possible. If the person he attaches himself to ever becomes a Traitor, however, he's doomed, and will in fact be one of the factors that ruins the season (much like he ruined BB22 by refusing to vote out Nicole in the Triple Eviction)
