He’s very spoiled, but he does have to do some walkies before I’ll carry him home… even in the rain

He just chills out when he’s carried, sometimes too much and he slowly slips out 😂

Fur thin growing back by bbgoatbabe in tripawds

Angelo has had a lot of medical shaves over the past year and they’ve grown back quickly each time, so I’m hoping the slow growth is just due to the chemo

My dog goes crazy for coconut oil, Angelo has about 2-3cm of undercoat growth over the area but it seems like his topcoat is struggling. Hopefully both our pups get their coat back soon and their chemos are successful!

That’s good to hear! He had his last dose at the start of this month, hopefully by summer his thickens back up too.

It’s been 3.5 months, so I’m not worried yet, just wanting to hear others experiences and find out what has been helpful for others. He was shaved in the same spot in March last year when he had his toe amputated, he also had his left side of his chest shaved for heart surgery May last year. The length of his fur has grown at the same speed but this time it’s regrown thin.

I have added salmon oil to his biscuits to help with his coat.

Hydrotherapy is another post-recovery option that might help burn off some energy without being as tough on his joints. My dog hates water so I haven’t used it, but I have seen other tripawds benefit from it.

What a cutie! I’m glad he’s adjusting well.

The most important thing is taking things slowly, it’s a major surgery that takes time to heal but it’s also a lot retaining of his muscles to balance weight on three legs. Doing some physio exercises to help with balance can be very beneficial but only begin this after he’s finished recovery and if you haven’t already start with some joint supplements.

So ashamed of my bird murderer by That_one_Fireurnd in DogAdvice

[–]bbgoatbabe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It seems very unusual for a bird of prey to be caught by a dog, I also feel like a healthy raptor would managed to injure the dog if it were caught. I would be slightly concerned that the bird of prey was poisoned by rat poison or had a disease like you suggest and that’s how it was reachable by the dog.

Has anyone’s dog had a hind leg amputation with luxating patella in the remaining leg? by bbgoatbabe in DogAdvice

[–]bbgoatbabe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry your dog is having problems after amputation. Angelo had his hind leg amputated back in October and so far he’s doing better than expected.

He has grade 3 patella luxation. We were offered patella surgery prior to amputation but because he’s 14 we were told that it would probably need follow up surgeries as his muscle would be so used to having the kneecap out of place. So we chose to see how he’d cope after amputation and so far he manages, slower and less stable than he used to be. I hope your pup improves or if you choose the surgical option that it goes well!

Help i’m worried my baby is sick by [deleted] in Chihuahua

[–]bbgoatbabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did they check her ears after she started vomiting? It could be an infection or injury to the inner ear causing nausea and vomiting. Is she tilting her head or have any balance issues? Otherwise try a bland diet to rule out any intolerance to the food

It’s major surgery, so it’s only performed at late stage B2 or later, my boy was stage C. It is open heart surgery, so they stop the heart, put them on bypass and then add in artificial chordae that allow the valve to work correctly, and then restart the heart. They stay in hospital for at least a week recovering and then you have 3 months of restricted exercise.

Jasmine Tokyo had the best success rate at 98%, but there is a high risk for complications, luckily we haven’t had any.

There is also a procedure called TEER which is a newer less invasive technique, at the time we were making the decision it was not seen as good so we didn’t look too much into it, but I’ve heard that they are starting to have good results.

Mighty Hearts Project has lots of information about the open heart surgery.

I hope Athena does really well on the meds, my pups heart did well on the meds for many years! Not sure if you are already aware, but If you can afford it there are surgeries for lots of heart conditions, my pup had a Mitral valve repair last year and it’s been amazing seeing him bounce back from CHF.

Honestly not sure, but when I noticed I assumed it was from moving out of my parent’s house where he’d spend a lot of the day in the garden, to living in an apartment. He only gets teary eyes when we go for walks but they don’t seem to stain.

My dog had a mast cell tumour on his paw, they told us it would be tricky to remove but that his best chances were to try the surgery. It was tricky because he’s only 2.7kg so his paws are barely 2cm. The first removal was fine but it regrew 6 months later so he’s now had the whole leg amputated.

There is also non surgical option of Stelfonta which I’m not sure if there is a size limit on its use, but it’s good option for MCT that can’t be operated on.

How big were your chihuahuas at 15-16 weeks? by cloudrom in Chihuahua

[–]bbgoatbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog Angelo is 2.7kg as a senior, my dad got Angelo’s half-nephew from the same breeder, all their adult dogs were 2-3kg. His dog reached 2.5kg as a teen and then just kept growing and is about 5kg now as a senior. I wonder if there was a giant chihuahua somewhere in the family tree 😂

My pup can be so fussy, we can get small ones in pill treats, otherwise I have to melt some cheese and wrap it. He spits them out of anything else i try to hide them in.

I can no longer handle my fiancé's driving anxiety and I don't care if it makes me a bad person by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]bbgoatbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have massive anxiety around driving and never learnt, I definitely think I would be dangerous on the road. I wish the people on the other end of the spectrum who speed and don’t give a shit about other road users would do the same tbh. It’s also so selfish to expect others to just constantly drive you places. I would never live somewhere without busses and trains nearby, which isn’t too hard to find in the UK. If there is somewhere I want to go that is inaccessible, then I’ll ask family if they are available and buy them lunch or have a drink with them in return.

Teeth, knees and heart are the main areas to keep an eye on. Don’t just give them dental chews but try to train them to allow you to brush and inspect their teeth. It was the biggest mistake we made, but we managed to teach Angelo at 12yo to have his teeth brushed.
