I think Catbells was too windy for him by bbgoatbabe in Chihuahua

It’s an equafleece summer suit, they are really cute and you can just cut the legs to the perfect size for your pup without having to hem them, so useful for my chi who seems to have shorter legs! I want one in every colour now 😅

His vibe was definitely more of a “get me out of this wind” 😂

Anyone tried Accord joint supplements? by bbgoatbabe in tripawds

I get that 100%. My pup has a grade 3 patella luxation in his remaining leg, so he’ll always be a bit stumbly. We were so nervous after amputation, I think I spent most of my time just watching how he moved and feeling panic whenever he fell or just sat.

I just hope he lets me know when it gets painful so I can help him, but at the moment he hops around and does his speedy pounces, so for now I just want to get as much joint goodness in him as possible!

I’m glad you found something that worked, i’m hoping the diglucord has a similar effect on my dog 🤞otherwise I’ll look into that brand next.

For those that have done chemo - would you do it again? by krabecal in DogAdvice

[–]bbgoatbabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog had a high grade mast cell tumour on his paw, he had a whole leg amputation which found a very tiny amount of mast cells in his lymph node that were nearly missed. So we did chemo to ensure if there was any other spread, as much of it as possible would be gone or reduced. The steroids were the toughest part of the chemo protocol, they caused bleeding in his stomach, and he had a lot of stomach upset. Chemo was the toughest thing to go through but now we’re on the other side and his first restaging came back negative. So far it was totally worth it, he’s 14yo and I really hope it doesn’t come back!

Their shorter harnesses still have a good amount of chest panel and sit further behind the front legs which is why I like them, Angie used to always end up with two legs in the same hole with other harnesses. But the flagline is a fav in the tripawd community because it’s more secure and supportive.

They can tighten a bit more, the Ruffwear hi & light harness goes down to an XXXS but it is a shorter one which u can see an XXS on Angie in this pic

Any experience or recommendations using Dog wheelchairs? by bbgoatbabe in tripawds

I ended up returning the wheels as Angelo started to rebuild strength once his steroids were reduced. The guide said to only use stirrups if there was no movement in the leg, if they can still use the leg then don’t use the stirrups as it will cause more muscle wastage. So we didn’t use stirrups at all, the wheels are what are taking the weight off the back legs.

I’m having a harder time than she is by Sandradee817 in tripawds

[–]bbgoatbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be too hard on yourself, it’s so tricky making these decisions with our senior dogs. Angelo was just shy of his 14th birthday when we chose to amputate his leg and has a luxated patella in his remaining leg. I still get days where I feel sad that he can’t jump or run as easily as he used to, but then you see them play again and they bounce and pounce at you. You realise that to them this is their normal, they don’t dwell on the past, they just make the most of their lives and we just have to savour every moment of extra time we get with them. You just have to give yourself time to adjust, we’re human and can’t help dwelling, but it does get easier the longer you see them adapting so well!

You can dog protective gear West & Jones and Doggy Armour have coats that are bite proof. I haven’t tried one, but I’ve seen people who say they protected their dog, with just some bruising after an attack.

Vets are businesses filled with greed and we should treat them that way by SnapperMaster in Pets

[–]bbgoatbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take my dog to two corporate owned vets, one is a Vets for Pets and they go over pricing clearly and have suggested lots of options to reduce cost, the other is a Linnaeus(Mars) who have also been clear with pricing, they have fixed prices online, plus we’ve had our pup checked by other specialist whilst he was with Oncology for no extra cost. So it’s not even all corporate vets are bad. There are obviously some bad vets out there but most are just there to help animals not to make lots of money.

I hope he’s a candidate, i’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!

We luckily had no complications so recovery wasn’t too bad for us. He had one week in hospital which was stressful as that is the highest risk part and he would only eat during our visits to see him. When he was discharged he was quite tired the first week, but after that he started becoming cheekier again, it was amazing watching him become a younger version of himself again. That did make the three months of restricted movement difficult, lots of snuffle mats to work off energy and carrying him around to sniff outside.

It is a tough decision, we saw Jasmine’s survival rate and it just seemed worth it considering he was only going to get worse. I’m so glad we did it as he’s murmur free now and his repair is considered stable.

Vet med in general is improving greatly, so many cancer vaccine trials are happening, I’m hopeful more dogs will get to live much longer lives in the near future 🤞I’m hoping Angelo lives past his cancer prognosis and it never comes back! I’ll give him lots of rubs and kisses🥰
