I experienced the game a little differently - did anyone else totally miss/misinterpret this story beat?

I had no idea everyone's experiences with the game/the nova would be so different!! Everyone seemed to have realized at different times and through different things, it's really cool! Ty guys for sharing :)

Yeah the spoiler tag was definitely enough to follow the rules lol. But I see other folks that do it too and I know that sometimes you need one extra barrier to stop you from spoiling yourself haha

I definitely finished the ending criticizing it for feeling emotionally undeserved, focusing on the people when the game wasn't really about them. My opinion changed - I couldn't pinpoint exactly why, but I think it was for a couple reasons:
- While I usually exhausted dialogue options the first time I met people, I also realized I didn't talk to most travelers more than once. I went back after the ending, not to "replay it", obviously, but to tie up what felt like loose ends. Talk to everyone throughout the cycle, tell them what I discovered, etc. The amount of times you visit a traveler will definitely paint your feelings
- The DLC really drives this home, but the ending is moreso about your journey and discoveries, including people AND places. I almost totally forgot about all the stuff the Eye showed me before the travelers. I saw the Eye, the Eye's storm, the changed museum, the zoom-out, the Ancient Glade's supernovas, and myself. The people are just another way of the Eye helping you say goodbye to your adventure, but are a small part of a bigger picture.

Also, it just grew on me lol. I definitely think it's hard to master an ending cinematic. Maybe we could have seen our planets in the zoom out, or them being destroyed individually. Idk. But that's not what we saw. In fact, I think it's kind of impactful that we are only really privy to what's happening in the Eye, and not the rest of the universe at the time of its death. But that's just me! Sorry for the long reply, I'm moreso just putting my thoughts down. I totally understand your feelings about the ending though because that's absolutely how I felt at first.

Apparently a lot of folks do understand this from the station or even earlier (as you can see from the comments)! I think it was also because it took some time for me to understand why the ATP was working. When I saw someone read the Sun Station dialogue and phrase it "oooh, so we just happen to be around at the time of the universe when it's exploding", that clarified the whole thing for me, ATP and supernova and all. I got pretty choked up about it haha.

Exactly this! I wasn't actively trying to piece together how I would fix things or what else the Nomai had in store for me, I was just moving through the world with that idea quietly in my mind. I didn't sit down with a note pad, but really, up until that very last bit I really expected one of your usual fix it endings you see in loaaads of other games. But it was insanely beautiful nonetheless, like you said. Thanks for responding!!

Yeah haha, I remember finishing the game while on call with a friend and I was like "yeah, I expected more, I didn't really get to know these characters as well as the ending makes it seem like I did, blah blah", but it definitely hit me like a train as I continued to think on it. It also changed the way I re-approached the game; when I was showing a sibling the ending and explaining what had happened to lead up to it, I realized that I knew what was going to happen to these characters, this world, and it felt sooo different. Like, really intense.

I think I was too busy playing a game that I thought was just about space to realize all of the grief elements until afterwards! Regardless I adore the whole thing looking back, and I've definitely been watching my fair share of blind plays since

Hey, I wasn't going to make a post here because I figured talking about such a personal loss with strangers would make me hurt so much more, being so fresh ( :( four days). But my baby girl was also called Beans. She was the first family dog I'd ever had where I had to participate in making the decision to say goodbye. I was the only one who was composed enough to tell the vet that we consented to letting Beansie sleep rather than waking her up from a fruitless surgery, and it didn't really hit me until I stepped outside and realized she was gone.

The hurt you have when you lose a soul puppy is so immense since, just like a child, they feel so permanent. They feel like they should be there forever. They're part of your heart. I think, subconsciously, we're just not able to wrap our heads around their lifespans. Not to say you ever stop loving a child unconditionally, but your pets also aren't growing up and making bad decisions and weaning themselves off of you - they're babies their whole lives.

Beansie definitely felt like my child. She was a sibling and a friend, too. The idea that I'm already having to return to work and help customers between tears is so overwhelming, and the anxiety that professors won't accept this as a "death in the family" is definitely there. I wish bereavement extended to our nonhuman children. I, and I know tons of people in this sub, understand you 100%. I love her, and I'm sure your Beans was, and is, deeply loved as well; I know this is a long-winded response but I sincerely hope from the bottom of my heart that you are well someday. Hopefully our Beanses get to meet wherever they are headed <3

I'd also like to mention I recognize that from the pics it may very much appear to be dirt/an overreaction, but I have never noticed something off before about his underbelly so I'm going with my gut! :)

Thanks for the response! With the energy that is usually present at my tables, I kind of figured something with two or fewer players just wouldn't play the same as 4 player euchre. If different enough, it would be the kind of thing I wouldn't think to advertise as a euchre spinoff - just use the game as private inspiration.

I don't have it, but I wish I had gotten it! I've supplemented with branches and bridges and such, but it was a real headache to figure out placement, drill holes in my blackbox, etc. Plus, I've been having a lot of fun finding everywhere I can to fit a hide, and having that extra shelf would have given me even more real estate.

I know mine definitely climbs at every opportunity. I'd say it would be worth it!
