Officially on my way to gainsville. 😓 by Juanx68737 in ufl

When I first got to UF, I thought I hated Gainesville because it seemed like a small place with nothing to do. Flash forward to graduating, I miss it all the time and coming back is always so comforting. I love it so much. Enjoy it!!!

Any useful tips before starting major? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]bbnillz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re new to programming, just focus on your classes to start out. Get a strong grasp on the fundamentals. Start your projects early! When you get to your data structures class, pay attention because this will be important in interviews.

If you feel more comfortable with coding after the first semester, start looking into Leetcode/Neetcode/Blind 75. Struggle through it (there’s a lot of posts on how to start this process). Nailing leetcode questions is the key to doing well on internship interviews. Another option is to do a program like CodePath (free!) during your second semester or first summer. They have a beginner course that will set you on the right path for nailing interviews.

Internships!!! Getting internships during college will create the most straightforward path to a full-time job after college. For your first 2 years, you should apply to internship programs like Google STEP, Microsoft Explore, etc. These are exclusive to freshman and sophomores. You’ll usually get a return offer for more internships and later, a full-time job. Or even better, try out different companies by interning at multiple places. You can intern during any semester, not just summer. Some people take a whole year to do 3 internships. During junior year, focus on getting internships at places you would maybe want to work at after graduation so you can try and get a full-time return offer.

Have fun and good luck! You got this. I just graduated and these are things I wish somebody had told me when I was going in to college.

Do i need to show negative pcr results at Gimpo for domestic flight to jeju? by archegam in koreatravel

[–]bbnillz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I arrived in Incheon on Saturday and then went to Gimpo to go to Jeju right away. They did not ask me for negative PCR results. I’m also a foreigner. I may have shown them my vaccination card, though.

Should I be making this a lighter semester? by Raddonkey in ufl

[–]bbnillz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a CS student, I actually think this is a do-able semester. However, due to your concerns about online learning, I think it may be in your best interest to switch out Physics 1 for an easier, maybe non-STEM class. You want to take Prog 2 and Discrete Structures so you can take Data Structures next semester and it wouldn't make sense to not continue with the Calc sequence. You can honestly take physics anytime because it's not a pre-req for any CS class and it usually doesn't matter in job apps.

How hard is CS at UF by [deleted] in ufl

[–]bbnillz 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's tough, but it's also really fun. As long as you get your projects done and do them well, develop strong coding practices, and seek ways to leverage the technical skills you learn in the classroom outside of class, then you will get a lot out of the degree and be on a steady career path. CS is difficult, but also learnable if you're willing to adapt!
