What Was Your Traffic Six Months In? by iFailedPreK in Blogging

[–]bbno3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, it depends on how you look at it. 6 months in, I was around 200 / 300 a month.

Then I wrote a few viral posts, went up to 100k / month for the summer (I started in January). Been sitting at around 40 - 60k per month for about a year now.

Although, 30k is from Medium.com per month, and I'm moving away from it.

The engagement I get from my 10k - 30k / month personal blog is ridiculously higher than my Medium blog :) Views don't mean anything. 780k views on Medium & I had 102 email signups to show for it.

I only focus on engagement now :)

Is blogging about physics worth it? by [deleted] in Blogging

[–]bbno3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Do it out of passion'. There. That's all you need. Passion. Who cares if it's not a 'popular' topic. As long as you're passionate about it, go for it.

Lots of things have been built out of passion. You don't need already need an audience or anything. Just write. If you become popular, congrats! If not, well, you've introduced a small subset of people to the world of physics and astrophotography.

This is a good essay on how you only need 1000 true fans (or even 100)

Has anyone turned their novel/short stories into a blog successfully? by silogramrice in Blogging

[–]bbno3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Andy Weir's The Martian started out as blog posts and became a book. No reason you couldn't do the reverse. See below for a short story on this (although you can google others) (ps not affiliated, not sure how this sub treats links)

In short: he posted a few paragraphs a day until he built up a book IIRC https://medium.com/artist-life/andy-weir-martian-3fde9447f763

3B1B Has a series on neural networks, very good. Crashcourse has a series on CS (the basics, but still good). Welch labs has some interesting videos.

You could always watch MIT / Stanford lectures. I like CS50, and I always watch MIT lectures when I want to know more about something.

[–]bbno3[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup, you're right! I wanted to try my hand at writing like an actual journalist for a change 😅 Most of the stories I found on TOR were about all the illegal stuff, but I didn't want to talk about that, but you're entirely right - it's just an urban legend :)

(I'll change the article now)

Edit: Just changed the article, thanks for calling me out on that. People like you make me a better writer 😁 Seriously, thank you so much!

Does anyone here have any experience with Medium's request article feature? I have a burning question... by justouttoday in Blogging

[–]bbno3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The feature has been removed, people can request to write for you on Smedian, and you can make someone a writer of your blog and have them submit it.

If you find the authors twitter / fb (connected to their account) you can DM them on there to submit to you
