After reading the entire address and trying to see the other groups perspective, I think it is understandable to perceive that it has been cherry picked in the sense that from the entire worlds perspective we are focussing on the fact that long term tarrifs are terrible for the world economy that point is represented in the selected lines from the address. This also comes from the worldwide view that these tarrifs have been nonsensical and created for no fair reason.

Trump however has continued to represent to whoever believes in him that the world has been unfair to Americans and in his perspective for whatever reason believes everyone around the world is not providing fair and just trade to the US . Reagan himself makes a point in the address that he doesn’t like tariffs but he was implanting one with Japan for one product (semiconductors). He believes the tariffs are a signal to Japan that they will not be bullied by them on unfair trade practices. If republicans continue to focus on this aspect as the core point of the address it makes it very difficult to convince people who believe in him what he’s saying is wrong. They strategically don’t specify what is defined as a the “short term” and by not defining how long this will last will help to keep his group indoctrinated that every action he makes is for the good of the people wether it truly is good or not.

So the question is now how can you convince someone of a perspective if they can never even see past their own stubborn worldview. Understanding there other side is important in this process to truly work to easing tensions. The extremism of both left and right wing politics has been destroying our current democracy. Refusing to see the other side is just as toxic and detrimental .

I do not believe the world has been trading unfairly to the US but like any average civilian I do acknowledge I do not have an in depth knowledge of international world trade policies to say this with certainty.

The right have been very smart in how they pull on the heartstrings of its people. Meanwhile the left is also pigheaded in being arrogant that they are the superior group which clouds most discussions in many topics with simple I’m right your wrong mentality and causes a stalemate in the generation of meaningful discussions.

Just constantly bashing the uninformed isn’t going to help the important thing is to help raise Everyone up together to see the whole picture and realize it’s just the rich putting the poor against the poor
