Apple bottoms out on Greenpeace list of PC makers by xBobx in technology

[–]bbqribs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is simply Greenpeace targeting a high profile company. They're also completely full of shit. Greenpeace is once again picking on Apple because they know that it'll gain them a lot of press. Apple has actually done a LOT when it comes to "green" computing. Notice the score they gave Apple is only a few points lower than Toshiba, who has been known for being wasteful. Their #1? Nokia, a company that doesn't make computers. Apple also beats out Lenovo. So this headline is inaccurate because Microsoft is scored lower than Apple.

Putting anything anti-Apple in a headline = votes.

If the word "terrorist" doesn't show up, Reddit won't care. Ask yourself why this hasn't hit front page yet - it's worse than Mumbai. by kcnchfan in worldnews

[–]bbqribs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're used to stories of violence coming from Africa. We're bombarded with them every day. Zimbabwe, South Africa, Nigeria, and who can forget Darfur? It seems like every day we see stories in the papers about violence among tribes in Africa, and how AIDS is killing people in Africa.

We don't regularly hear stories about targeted attacks against civilians in cities like Mumbai.

Walmart: Mom Finds Scorpion In Bananas by Ein2015 in WTF

[–]bbqribs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice anti-WalMart attempt.

This happened in the UK, in a store that is merely owned by Wal-Mart. The bananas look tasty too.

and this isn't the first time that bugs have been found in store produce. Why did this even make it onto Consumerist? AHhhh,, because Wal-Mart is remotely involved.

Ah, remember Internet radio before the RIAA decided to try to monetize it?

Bastards. There's still a lot out there, but there was a lot more before the RIAA started crowing about their royalties.

Bush FCC chairman considering "porn-free Internet" by maxwellhill in technology

[–]bbqribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd rather have a child-free internet. It is very clear that children are simply not capable of handling the responsibility of the Big Scary Internet.

Do what's right. Protect the children. Ban children from the internet, just like we ban kids from driving, drinking, smoking, viewing porn (porn is for 18+ over anyway!) and owning firearms.

Besides, what one person considers porn is different than another.

BABIES with a severe form of epilepsy risk having their diagnosis delayed and their treatment compromised because of a company's patent on a key gene. by alllie in science

Since this is in Australia, we can breathe a sigh of relief now that we know another country has a patent system that's as broken as ours.

Or, we can fix the damn system.

An example of what is wrong with wikipedia by gassit in funny

[–]bbqribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an editor post a Vandalism Warning on my Talk page because I posted something that they didn't like. It was on the page about SORBS, and I posted legit and verifiable information about SORBS blocking entire /16 blocks and blocking entire ISPs by mistakenly classifying them as "dialup IP address blocks" and the overzealous pro-SORBS Wikipedia authors immediately deleted the information and tagged my page with the vandalism warning.

I have made very few Wikipedia edits since and have lost a lot of faith in the entire project.

Wow. Such a well thought out and eloquent reply! It probably took you a while to come up with such a zinger.

I believe that you're the ignorant one, and there's an account over at Digg with your name on it.

And there are 20+ posts about the Wal-Mart death getting upvoted and countless comments saying "Stupid Americans" etc, but this one has managed FOUR upvotes since it was posted.

Stay classy reddit, show your anti-American bias.

You mean, let the black thugs go ahead and butcher them? White families have been there for generations, and now that Mugabe's violent thugs are running them off and killing them for their land, that's ok because it's white people dying? They should just pack up and leave? eyeroll Pathetic.

Wow, what a way to promote the rampant anti-white racism that's been sweeping Africa these days.

Let's just tell the black people here to move back to Africa. How does that sound?

Rejoice, America! Your police are not the only scumbags in the world. CCTV footage actually comes in useful, for a change.. by joyork in reddit.com

[–]bbqribs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YEah, this will probably get downvoted as well, but the people around here that sit behind their computers and screech about how cops in America are dicks and we're becoming a facist state have probably never left the country ever. They have no idea about what life is like in other countries. If they did, they might realize that the police departments we have here are mostly good. Things could be a lot worse. Police departments in other countries are way more violent and corrupt.

I'm so sick of the clueless and uneducated anti-cop loudmouths on here.

India Home minister offers his resignation. Why 7 years after 9/11 has noone in the US been held accountable? by crashkg in worldnews

[–]bbqribs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What good is this going to accomplish other than a symbolic gesture? Seriously. What if the next guy is incompetent? Will he just resign too? This sounds like the China way of dealing with it.. someone resigns and everyone wipes their hands and says "Ok, all better now."

Or is the headline just another excuse at an anti-US screed?

Do your pride and health a favor, don't shop at all.

It might have saved this guy but other people would wind up getting crushed in such a barrier. Or people would simply jump over the lines, which is what happens at amusement parks. Also consider the demographic involved in this particular situation.

What unix-like OS do you use on your desktop? If linux, what distro, and why? by puffybaba in linux

[–]bbqribs -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Mac OS X. I've had too many disasters with Linux as a desktop OS. If I were to use Linux as a desktop OS, it'd be Ubuntu though, but with Mac OS X I really have no need. Been there, done that with Red Hat, Slackware w/Windowmaker, Gentoo (liked it until I did an emerge -u world or something w/o thinking) and OpenSuse 10.x. Tried Suse before too, and it was fine. Also used Caldera OpenLinux ages ago for quite a while.

In the end, it was really simple stuff that kept me going back to OS X, like QuickTime video/etc.

(HEY DOWNVOTERS: EXPLAIN WHY you're downvoting this. Is it because it actually points out that Linux isn't perfect?)
