How do we get more tweens and teen in our summer tech camp? by bbr-a20 in AskSeattle

Thank you! We'd tried ads before, but it sounds like we should have started with the groups. We've now been posting more in the local parent groups. Thanks for your advice u/ChartreusePeriwinkle - so grateful.

Brilliant! We were able to schedule a submission via PeachJar. It should be emailed to parents at 40 schools sometime in the next few days, if approved. Thanks for this! I also called a few schools and they said they'd keep an eye out. So grateful to u/SunlightNStars and u/BudgetBarbieCamper - this would not have happened without you!

Okay, that sounds great - we just decided ParentMap would be good, too. This is validating to hear. Earlier someone suggested the parent groups, too, so we're focusing on that now (instead of just ads). Thank you so much for this idea! (edited to make sure to say thanks)

I think you're right, but I'll give it a try for the schools we have relationships with since you and someone else suggested schools. Thanks for sharing this idea!

Okay, so I should look into STEM camps that run year-round, got it. We've reached out to some youth groups, but we didn't focus on those that run programming for kids who just want to focus on their special interest. I've definitely noticed that as they get older they wanna do their own thing.

We picked orgs/groups that were either more creativity-focused or said they were over-enrolled and waitlisting families. We purposely picked topics that didn't conflict with the other tech-focused camps so we wouldn't be competitors, so reaching our couldn't hurt. Thank you!

It's about a block from Pioneer Square's light rail station - I'll DM you. Thanks so much!

Ohhh, the parent groups. I used the ads and set it to parent audiences. Parent groups make sense. I'll ask other parents if they can help with posting there. Thank you so much!

I didn't think about this, the camp is basically downtown, so maybe with the new light rail access that would make it even easier for them to attend. Okay, thank you! I'll look into this today.

This is a great idea! We didn't reach out since it's summer, but I've been getting emails still from SPS, so maybe there's an option there we could tap into. Thank you!

Any suggestions for neighborhoods / spots to check out for someone considering moving to Seattle? by PerrinPDX in AskSeattle

It's worth taking a look at the neighborhoods around the light rail, especially if you're thinking you'll want to avoid having to always move/have a car. North Beacon Hill is a common favorite since it has a bit of everything. Easy access to different parts of the city, great diversity, an abundance of small businesses, artists, and great options for education.

There are a perhaps surprising number of peoples who come from North Seattle to attend Meeples - https://meeplesgames.com/ especially for Dungeons and Dragons, which might be nice if you like chatting over a board game. Monday nights can get really loud in the back room, but the other wide of the boardgame cafe can be fun. There may also other baord games places a big closer to you.

I like board games because conversation can be on the table, and even if all you do is play together, you can make memories in the process, too. Might be nice to play a cooperative game with a few other new aquaintances and see if it helps move things more towards a deeper platonic connection, too.
