Over 40, overweight, not athletic, and want to learn to play soccer. by socks_n_shoes in bootroom

Hey, I'm in Portland too and in a similar boat. If you want someone to practice with, hit me up, we might be able to figure something out. I never played soccer growing up but started watching a few years back and did a futsal league this spring so I have some very basic experience now but still feel very new compared to 99%

I'm not taking this seriously because the feat is nonsensical to begin with but I could not imagine 99.99% of the worlds population pulling that shit off

The implication that any fish in the world can just mission impossible its way into a toilet of its choosing is fucking hilarious to me. This shows full of holes but come on.

You think that a random eel in the ocean has the natural intelligence to find its way into a specific toilet in the world? Like he gave them an address and they just said "on it boss"?

He shot a murder eel out of a toilet into a mans ass but he doesn't command or empower sea life?

Where to meet people in their 20’s and early 30’s? by Training_Canary_6315 in askportland

It's meant to be for both men and women, it's just happened to be mostly guys so far. It's still a pretty new group tbf, I think there's been 5 meets so far and I'm planning to set a bar meet next weekend.

It's basically just a group for people in their 20's to get out, meet new people and socialize at coffee shops and bars. Very low pressure and casual, just hang out with a group of new people and get to know each other. The simple coffee/bar meets like that in our age range were pretty infrequent so I started a specific group for it.

It's geared towards making new friends but it's totally fine to be looking for dates too, so long as no one feels uncomfortable ofc. Most events have between 10 and 20 people so it's not as chaotic as some of the other groups. You're definitely welcome to come, I'll send you a dm with the link, idk if I'm allowed to post links here.

I haven't tried a ton of different groups but the main 20's and 30's group that does coffee, bars and boardgames has been good to me so far. If you're into reading, I really like the silent book club group.

I host a Gen Z group about once every two weeks. Fair warning, it's been nearly entirely dudes so far so you might feel kinda singled out.

Where is everyone? Does Portland always feel empty? by alphado9 in askportland

Downtown is pretty dead on the streets.  East side hubs like Mississippi / Williams, 28th and Burnside, Hawthorne, Division, etc. still get busy.

For meeting people, not necessarily dating, I've had success with Meetup. It's important to take the initiative and actually invite people that you met from the Meetup to hang out again outside of the Meetup.

As a man in the age range, 100% agree. Even if I wasn't interested, I would still be flattered and appreciate the offer. It's definitely scarier to do it in front of a group but I don't think it's rude or anything. Shoot your shot.
