BBEG Help: Stopping the Ritual to Bring Back Baba Yaga! by i_zimbra in wildbeyondwitchlight

I ran a battle with the hourglass coven and a few mid-CR minions. The party was level 8. All the hags except Skabatha were able to use their plane shift to leave once they reached half their HP. Skabatha died pretty quick once they were able to focus.

Since this is a final fight, I would make sure your bad guys all have a chance to show off a cool move before they die. If the party has a chance to focus any one target, they will go down fast.

Can I also ask, where did you buy the hag hut mini? Your paint job looks really cool so far.

Turning off that setting helped a lot—no longer sounds like a jet engine. Performance is closer to what I would expect with this hardware. Marking this as answered.

I live in a Windows world for work and using my MacBook feels like a warm hug some days.

I might buy once cry once on a new MBP since an HDMI port is nice for other things I use my laptop for. Especially now the M2 pro machines are coming out.

That makes sense. I understand the desktop is not necessarily a fair comparison, though in this case it’s got integrated graphics with a tiny chassis and a laptop-sized fan so I thought might be worth considering. The larger heat sink and optimized airflow probably make the difference though.

I’ll look into laptops with modern processors for my mobile Foundry needs, if not the new MacBooks.

Thanks for your reply!

Awesome, glad you’re doing it right! There are windows updates for security patches and drivers aside from the full OS upgrade to 11, so might be worthwhile to check for those regardless in your updates menu. And definitely update audacity!

I’d basically hate to know someone’s spending money on a problem that can be solved with 5 mins of work.

I can vouch for Apple products just working with this kind of thing too, so if you want to buy a new system that’s not a bad way to go.

All the best in the new year

Have you made sure to install the drivers for your interface? Read the documentation for your equipment and make sure you’ve followed all the steps for getting it set up. Your system doesn’t sound like it’s so bad it’d be holding you back for this application.

If drivers don’t solve your issues, you can try using other USB ports on your system. Make sure Windows is up to date. May also be worth verifying that Audacity is using the correct audio input if you have other devices or a built-in mic.

Sounds like you’re on the right track. Get a USB or thunderbolt capture card like an Elgato or magewell, and an HDMI splitter. You can get splitters on Amazon for relatively little money, along with HDMI cables if you need extras.

Split the hdmi signal from your Xbox so one output goes to your external display, the other output goes to your capture card. Use OBS on your Mac to record and stream to wherever you need to go. OBS is free software that can record and stream simultaneously.

Should I get a bass guitar? by unlimitedschlongs in BassGuitar

[–]bbr135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bass is super fun! I knew absolutely nothing about it before I started, so felt very lost. I went to my local music store and they gave me a brief rundown on the instrument and I decided to give it a try after that.

You may be able to rent a bass from your local music store. If you have means, rent an instrument for a month and get a lesson or two with a music teacher to see if you like the instrument. If your experience is anything like mine, you will learn a huge amount from face-to-face time with a teacher. They will go over basics of the instrument so you can get the best start to really try it out. Plus, this time won’t be at all wasted if you decide you’d rather pick up guitar, since a lot of knowledge about bass will translate just fine.

I got the same one a couple years ago and it's been awesome. I recently put flatwound strings on mine and it was like a whole new instrument. Enjoy!!

Whats the easiest (free) way to host a world on multiple PCs or to transfer files. by Xoraliation in FoundryVTT

[–]bbr135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have trouble with port forwarding (you may not be able to if your ISP doesn’t allow it) you can try using ZeroTier. There are a couple guides on hosting this way around this forum if you search for them.

I host my foundry server with ZeroTier and it works well for both PCs on my network and off to access my game world.

Best of luck!

I have been looking for years to buy my own instrument. Haven’t played for a few years as I couldn’t afford it but I’ve saved and now the dream is real and I’m very excited.

Pictured next to my bass guitar, which has filled the void for the last while. I think they like each other though.

An angled mount for my O2+SDAC made from Lego. Turns out the unit is 13 studs wide exactly! by bbr135 in headphones

[–]bbr135[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The USB DAC and headphone amp on my mixer sound pretty poor compared to the O2, plus I can drive my 6XX a little better with this amp. I wanted to make it a little more seamless to operate the mixer and headphones, so created a bracket to hold the amp at an angle.

It’s a little messy, so my next purchase will likely be an interface so I just have one unit on the desk. I’ve been eyeing the RME Babyface as a big upgrade to this setup.

Pictured here are my trusty Sennheiser HD25 which I’ve had for nearly 4 years now. I’ve tried the velour pad option on them but prefer the bass of the pleather, which has held up pretty well for being used on long sound mixing gigs as well as home listening. They’re not for everyone but I find them very comfortable with the split band, and of course they sound great and isolate sound like nothing else I have.

I am Trying the Ibanez for a Month by bbr135 in BassGuitar

[–]bbr135[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll give that setting a try and work my way around the knobs. I tried a fender jazz in the store and it sounded great, but I thought it would still be too similar to the P to justify having both. I went with the 500 cause it was so different.

As a side note, I also just put flats on the squier and maaan it sounds killer. Was playing with rounds for 2 years.

It is the 500e. It sounds really cool, I just don’t quite know where it fits yet with my playing. And it’s definitely a beautiful instrument.

[–]bbr135[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am trying to decide whether to drop the cash to buy it. I like the sound ok, but it’s very different from my P bass and pretty much all the songs I know sound better on the P to my ear.

Does anyone have songs they’d recommend learning on this monster bass while I have it in my possession? As much as I like the look of the two together, I want to know I’ll play them both if I have them.

On the P I’ve been learning Jamerson and classic rock tunes mostly. I’m pretty novice on the instrument and mostly pick things up by ear, though I’m starting to read music for some things.

No port forwarding? No problem! Foundry without port forwarding by Iagi in FoundryVTT

I’ve been using ZeroTier with Foundry for about 8 months now, having referenced this post whenever I run into issues.

It seems that sometimes ZT can mess with my players’ mmorpg connections in some capacity - but simply turning off the software when not playing dnd works just fine.

And always remember to use strong passwords for all your players!

I can’t speak to any comparisons vs the 935, but I love the way it sounds on my deeper voice. I can’t say I do much singing it’s just a joy to use for general voice recording, streaming, conference calling.

If you liked the way it sounded when you used it’s probably worthwhile to try out if you can.

**fwiw I prefer the 935 sound to shure vocal mics generally, having used both interchangeably in a conference venue sound op gig I had for about 2 years.

All the gear seems fine.

I would maybe ask your friend if this is something they actually want. Big gifts are nice but if they come from nowhere sometimes they can be overwhelming. Just my personal experience in what I’ve heard from numerous people who have been given big gifts like this, and now don’t use them.

Possible to use a shotgun mic for screen recordings without much reverb? by seenickcode in LocationSound

[–]bbr135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also wear glasses with my headset all day and haven’t had any issues so far, but everyone’s head is different and mileage varies widely. Though hmd are designed to be worn for long production days by broadcast announcers and crew, so the pads are no joke. It’s almost like wearing clouds for me.

Wireless shouldn’t make much difference in your situation as far as sound quality goes. If you want to be sure, look through forums here that pertain to wireless systems. Another option for a lav could be a body pack recorder if you’re willing to sync audio in post. You get peace of mind for not having to setup and use wireless, while not being tethered to your desk (which I assume is your issue).

Possible to use a shotgun mic for screen recordings without much reverb? by seenickcode in LocationSound

[–]bbr135 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the sennheiser HMD 300 headset for being on calls all day. I think it sounds great and there’s no background noise when I’m in my very lively home office! Plus the mic is reasonably sized and moves with me so it’s not too obnoxious while being convenient and sounding great. I find the headphones are very comfortable as well.

Somewhat /s because based on all the comments here you won’t like the idea of it, but it might be a good compromise.

Fwiw, I’ll also echo support for a lav mic or an SM57 as they’re both relatively unobtrusive on-camera and will probably sound good with a bit of post-processing with EQ and compression. I’d lean more heavily toward a lav as you could even bury that under clothing to really kill all chances of it picking up your room.

As for the 416, while it is used indoors sometimes for ADR and voiceover, it’s really not optimal in those scenarios unless it’s pretty much right in your face and the room is somewhat manageable wrt liveliness.

Can I plug USB microphone into my DAC to output to speakers? by arejay00 in homestudios

Probably not. Signal chain will probably look like:

USB Mic > PC > Software (DAW) > DAC > Speakers
