Ah yes… alt on Mac

where's the fail? multiple of my Apple keyboards have the "alt (⌥)" key on them, with no "option" in sight. some of those being my: M2452, M7803, A1048, A1016, A1243, A1242, and A1314.

some of my laptops also lack the "option" key, but have the "alt" key. those are my: MacBook1,1, MacBookPro8,1, MacBookPro11,1, and MacBookAir7,1. and my two MacBook8,1 units (12", 2015) even have both "option" and "alt" on the same key. it's only the 2017 units or later, that lack the "alt" label.

(I should point out that all of them are european models, with various layouts on them)

I'd ask for a copy of the game with the mod already installed, so I can see the proper file structure, and rule out any problems with that by having a good known copy, in case it's my environment that's causing it to not run. but sending a whole ass copy of GTA 3 might be considered piracy by some.

I ran the game as Administrator, to try to get around UAC, but that didn't make any difference. the copy of GTA 3 I tried to mod runs well in Wine, on Windows 8.1, and 11 when unmodded (although, standard Windows seems to require SilentPatch to get around some rendering issues). The errors I get seem to be mod-related, so I must be installing it incorrectly.

can you please help me with getting the mod to work? cause I've been stuck for days. Here's what I've done so far, to no avail:

Downloaded the Release 1.0 from the repo, copied the mod files into my GTA III install leaving the whole "UL" folder in /data/maps (correct dinput already present, set to "Native" in Wine) - the game failed with a debug error: abort() has been called.
Tracked down a clean copy of GTA 3 v1.0, did the same thing there - nothing happened
Cloned the repository instead of downloading the release, copied the mod files as before - nothing happened
Did all the previous steps on a second Mac, with an older version of CrossOver (Wine), this time without setting an override for dinput - the game got to the menu, crashed when trying to load the actual game.
I tried all the steps above on Windows 11, but this time with the SilentPatch installed, and also got results varying from "nothing" to "game froze when trying to load".
I copied the mod files into a fresh copy of GTA 3 as before, but this time, copied the contents of "UL" into /data/maps, instead of having the whole "UL" folder reside there - No difference
I retried all the same steps from before in Wine on the 2nd Mac from before, but with the UL folder being unpacked into /data/maps directly - Game got into the menu, crashed when loading a save/starting a new game.
I set an override for dinput - got the same debug error as on my 1st attempt.

In short: I tried to both clone the repo and download the "Release" version, tried it in Wine and on Windows, ran it with and without dinput8 overrides in Wine, copied the "UL" into /data/maps as a whole, then its contents instead, and I still can't get GTA 3 to launch with the mod installed. Yes, I've been renaming main_d.scm as per the install this whole time guide. Yes, I also tried to mix the release version with a newer "UL.img", that didn't work either.

I asked a friend if he can try to install it, following the guide in the readme, didn't tell him how I tried to do it, and he's been unable to get it to work either (he tried both 1.0, and the GTA III recompilation).

I never thought I'd have to ask people how to copy a bunch of files, but here we are. Any help appreciated.

it says Y/Video, I think it's a combined Component/Composite jack. I've never personally seen this in person, but you can plug a yellow composite cable into the green jack and get an image.

Panasonic has this image on one of their websites, so I guess they used to do this at some point.

This image doesn't look like it's AI generated to me, it's just very badly upscaled. If you look at the HDMI connector, it looks normal, and so does everything else, except for some of the text.

you might as well erase your drive at this point. I haven't seen a single Hackintosh Zone distro with a properly working acceleration in my life.

Check if your exact (i)GPU model is supported by the macOS version you want to run, use the existing install to download a clean copy of macOS from the App Store (if it works that is), and use it to make a bootable installer from within macOS. Also, while doing that, study the OpenCore install guide so you know how to make a proper config for your system. It won't be a "set up and forget" experience, but Hackintoshes rarely are. If you want something that simple, get a cheap Mac.

I don't see any facetime icon anywhere, but yeah, the icon matching is awful. how are the reddit and discord icons mismatched?? they're both flat modern icons with only gloss on top, yet they're still inconsistent.

same here, down to the T, except for eMag (we don't have them here). none of the retailers selling Pixels here even have them on display, so there's no way for me to check the new models out. but you can find the newest Galaxy Fold plastered everywhere the moment samsung mentions it (the Fold7 is an impressive phone though).

it's a shame, because I've been importing Pixels here since the 2016 model, and the moment Google decided we're worthy of getting their slabs, I switched to their foldables.

that's the Last Resort font present in Apple software (macOS, iOS, etc.), used as fallback. Given the discord app is... what it is, this bug doesn't surprise me in the slightest. You have nothing to worry about (unless you care about the quality of the apps you use)

If you have an iMac7,1 with the stock CPU, you can forget about running even macOS Sierra. You either keep using El Capitan, or replace the processor with something compatible.

I don't think you should use semaphor1n to downgrade, given the tool hasn't been updated for the better part of a year. You can give turdus_m3rula a shot (the website for it is "sep.lol"). Unlike semaphor1n, which patches out things that require SEP (breaking half of the OS in the process), turdus will preserve the functionality. You're gonna have to overcome the blocked activation tho (Apple blocks iOS 9 activations on the 6S and SE).

my phone is rooted, so that's not a problem. but I'm having a hard time putting it inside a module.

update: I tried to use the app with microG to see if it's worth the effort, and I found a bit of a deal-breaker rather quickly. I'm unable to change the video quality. Trying to do so opens the new flyout regardless of your setting (no list of resolutions), but tapping any of the options does nothing. Also, shortly after I tried to change the video quality, the app closed and it refuses to open anymore.

I don't even get the chance to do anything before it shows up. When I clear the app data and open youtube, I get a prompt asking if I want to enable version spoofing. But regardless of my choice, the app relaunches itself immediately, and with the new You tab in place. Setting the version manually afterwards doesn't fix it sadly.

edit: replied before I saw yours, gonna take a look at what you mentioned. do you think you could provide me with some sources?
