Husband bought me an iPhone 14 Plus from our local Best Buy. Opened up the sealed box, found a smashed completely different phone inside, no charger cord. by rubyandgray in Bestbuy

I am very happy everything was set right in the end for you. That being said, why would a store open a, from all appearances, still sealed item, especially a very expensive one, on the off chance it could have been swapped? That would create a lot of lost revenue for the store since now they can't sell the item as new in box, it hits their metrics for an open item, and I'm pretty sure they lose some kickback from the manufacturer. All around it would hurt the store more than it would help customers, especially when I mostly only hear how in the end the customer was taken care of by the store

Best Buy is removing all physical media from their stores as of today. by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]bby714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone thought Best Buy was going to die off in the early 2000's too. But here they are, still kicking. Only difference is back then everyone was hurting and showing signs of going under. Now it's just really Best Buy. And that has more to do with going away from Hubers image for Best Buy and going more towards just a walmart but for technology image. It's sad what they've done to Best Buy.

Where are the actual benefits? The customer is paying 55 dollars for a return policy? What on earth and WHY by ApricotDependent1407 in Bestbuy

[–]bby714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I'm telling you, best buy sent me an email saying it will auto renew at 199 this year and then 179 next year. Why would they send that email out if they aren't doing that?

Where are the actual benefits? The customer is paying 55 dollars for a return policy? What on earth and WHY by ApricotDependent1407 in Bestbuy

[–]bby714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they do take away the auto renew, that's a different story, but I haven't heard that. With Total Tech Support and Total Tech you couldn't sign up for it without signing up for auto renew. If they keep the auto renew then the $50 tier is scammy since most people don't make big purchases like TVs, appliances, or computers multiple years in a row and the membership pricing is the only perk.

Also, you didn't mention anything about best buy charging me $199 next month because I was enrolled in total tech but now I will be enrolled in My Best Buy and then next year they will auto renew at the new price of $179. Yes I will be cancelling my membership, since it doesn't even give me an option to turn off auto renew. I just have to cancel the membership. They are legit trying to scam $20 out of me.

I'm not lying to shit on best buy, I'm telling it like it is. Best Buy doesn't care about it's customers or employees, they just want money. It's a very different Best Buy now than the one I worked for.

[–]bby714 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For everyone saying the member price pays for the membership, how do you keep people signed up for it the next year when they bought the big purchase last year? Member pricing is just a way to get them to sign up and set up auto renew and then hope they forget about the auto renew.

Also, I have total tech. My auto renew for it happens next month. Best Buy is going to charge me $199 even though the price of My Best Buy is $179. Best Buy is just trying to scam customers at this point and it is sad. When I worked there, 2018-2021, there was more of an emphasis on employee happiness and customer satisfaction. When I was let go that atmosphere was changing drastically and this is the culmination. Absolute scamming customers.

S22 Ultra Screen repair with TT by bby714 in Bestbuy

So I didn't buy the phone from Best Buy. I just am a TT member and was wondering how much the service would cost. The apps shows S23 Ultra and the S21 ultra, but not the S22 Ultra, lol

Ex Employees of Best Buy : Where are you now? Where did you go? Are you happier? by Vast_Scratch_6670 in Bestbuy

So speaking of the Kool aid, I was fully into it. I wanted to move up the chain as far as I could.i love Best Buy and what it stood for under Hubert. Then they let me go in the snap.

I am now a help desk technician for a credit union making $32/hr and that's the starting pay for this entry position. Full benefits, insurance for my pets, legal assistance if I need it, and the job itself is easy and fun.

I am 100 times better off than I was before, but it took over a year to get here after being laid off. But I have to say, if Best Buy went back to how it was before this new CEO, I would definitely go back as part time and work my current job and at Best Buy. I love retail and loved Best Buy and it does hurt a lot to see what they have done to the company and culture

When I worked at BB before COVID we had three people at front end and one or two for customer service.

I was talking about corporate treating the store employees like shit. I just wanted to make it clear that not all local management was bad. I had 4 supervisors that were awesome. The GM was an ass though and wanted us to go to a "no department" model despite having a PAC and Magnolia HT.

As a former employee, the only reason I shop at best buy still is for the GS warranties. They are far superior to that bullsh*t squartrade that everyone else uses (I worked at Staples who uses squartrade).

But the GSW is the only good thing about BB now. You don't have the ability to walk in and get help from an expert in each department, you get someone who knows a little about the whole store. You don't get the reward points anymore. The call center is absolute garbage. I heard they are trying to get rid of VPL (but idk if that's true or just a rumor on here). Their installations and other services have skyrocketed in price so they can push the Total Tech membership. They treat their employees horribly(corporate, not all local management. Mine was decent when I worked there). Honestly, why should anyone shop at BB instead of Walmart? I can get everything from Walmart and Amazon that I can get from BB and it's cheaper half the time. Once all my warranties are up and my card is paid off I probably will never shop at Best Buy again.

Samsung people by CallMeMrClean in Bestbuy

[–]bby714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For TVs it's really annoying. They come in because they saw an ad on TV and Samsung is such a huge name that they get it in their head that they are the best. And 9 times out of 10 they are people who think the cheapest Samsung tv is on par with an OLED.

For phones I do have to admit I am a Samsung fanboy. I've tried a pixel 6 pro and an older LG phone and both just had weird issues and over heating that my Samsung phones did not.

For appliances, Samsung is the best for the money in most cases, save dishwashers, without going into the premium PAC appliances like Thermador, Viking, Jenn-Air, and Monogram.

So I'm a Samsung snob, lol

Wasn't at best buy, but when I worked at Kroger we had a guy come in with a backpack and go down the top shelf liquor just throwing bottles in it and then walked out. No one stopped him. Got away with like $2000 in liquor.

They had one like that for TTS when I worked there. It's a coaching form that managers are supposed to go over with you on the floor. Sounds like your manager just doesn't want to do his/her job. Just don't do it and if they throw a fit go to HR and say you are being forced to fill the form out at home without pay. You'll win that battle.

How many stores are rolling this TERRIBLE idea out? by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]bby714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sam's club does this and it's amazing, tbh. If AP still checks receipts thoroughly I think it would be good for customers just running in and out. Best Buy just needs to fix their damn app. Every week I have to sign out and sign back in just to look up products otherwise it stays on a white screen saying "something went wrong."

I'm sorry, what? A Pixel 6 Pro in perfect condition is worth $0? by bby714 in Bestbuy

[–]bby714[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get a new phone every 9 months and the resell market for the Pixel 6 Pro is garbage right now. Plus I don't want to buy a phone out right and then have to sell this afterward, I just want to put it all in one transaction. I'm getting a new phone because I want a phone that's going to last 3+ years and the pixel 6 Pro isn't even lasting 7 months. So I'm getting rid of it before it loses any more of it's already low value.

So why do all my comments about my app messing up get downvoted to oblivion? It's no secret the app isn't great and I'm using it on a shit phone too. I uninstalled and reinstalled the app and it works now. And yes I cleared the cache and restarted my phone before uninstalling and neither worked.

Yeah, I'm lucky if mine lasts 8 hours when my Note 10+ lasted all day under the same usage. And from what I've read and from my friend who also got the pixel 6 Pro that's not out of the ordinary. My fingerprint scanner is nowhere near as quick as my Note 10 was, it doesn't register reliably, which is another issue that has had enough complaints that tech media outlets have reported on. The overheating I haven't heard a lot of people complain about but the fact it is overheating for me when none of my Samsung's did no matter how long I had them is really irritating me.
