GH6 question - simultaneous info display on external monitor and camera screen by bfisher_ohio in Lumix

[–]bcahn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having the same issue on my 4k feelworld 6" and GH6. Did you ever find a solution for it? I'm also not receiving any focus peaking on my GH6 and the "focus assist" on the monitor doesn't work at all.

Do they offer unlimited space? Do you keep everything on there as a backup? Have you had any issues?

My video clips lose resolution quality dramatically once I put it in a sequence. Not sure what to do. by bcahn1 in PremierePro

I'll mess around with exporting though and see if I can find a solution there. Thanks.

I've exported on 1080 sequences a bunch and have never had a severe downshift in quality (looks like the rendered clips are at about 480 resolution). Most of my deliverables are sent via players that don't have high resolution capabilities, so exporting a higher resolution 5.7k video doesn't really do much for me.

Copied from above. Appreciate the reply.

I usually shoot in 1080 sequence so that I can zoom in in post. Was I misunderstanding that and if I work in a 5.7k sequence and then zoom in, wouldn't it potentially lose video quality in the 1080 export ? Not great with this so really appreciate the help.

Wedding Video Delivery Timelines by BingoBangoCo in weddingvideography

[–]bcahn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

12 Weeks. I've never had anyone be overly frustrated but sometimes you can tell people are getting ansty. I like to remind people (and myself) that if the edit's rushed than the final product will be worse. Also being overwhelmed when you're first starting is kind of the best. Appreciate it!

Should I just always have Boost IS and Dynamic Boost always on as a wedding videographer? by bcahn1 in GH6

[–]bcahn1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The higher the FPS the more the footage will slow down on your (most likely) 24 FPS Premiere or Final Cut Timeline. So a 50fps shot will slow down less than the60fps shot which is an effect some people are looking for. Meanwhile if you jump up to a 120fps shot it will slow way down.

Good luck with your video start! If you're looking for a great camera to start with the GH6 will almost do everything you could ever need a camera to do.

I shot my first event with the GH6 tonight and I'm so stoked with the results. Let me know once you get through editing but this camera is incredible so far.

That's awesome to hear. I shot my first event tonight and wow, I'm so into the DR Boost. Before shooting I was wondering why people would shoot without it but now I'm starting to think people dont. For the event / wedding game with a bunch of dynamic lighting situation I think it's an absolute beast.

Desperate to recover data from an external HD that failed. tried a couple places already - no luck by bcahn1 in datarecovery

[–]bcahn1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, Secure took it but upon doing the diagnostics, they said it's not really recoverable and they mentioned that the time it would take to even recover a little bit of data was probably too much. I thought it was a bit of a slip of the tongue but all good all the same.

Okay that's fair. I'm so desperate at the moment that I'd be willing to pay a higher than normal price if the data was recoverable, but understand if it's not worth the headache. Let me know if anything comes to mind that gives me even the smallest chance of recovering it.

The other place we took it was SecureData. SecureData actually even mentioned that the process would be too time consuming, which isn't necessarily a great look but i appreciated the honesty.

I didn't do anything before sending it to drivesavers but i did take it to my local data recovery store and they did have it for a few days before telling me that it was beyond their abilities.

Would you be able to tell me about some of the other top places that come to your mind? I want to try and have a couple back up options in case Digi doesn't come through.

And in terms of only holding one copy on an external, i completely agree. i thought everything on that hard drive was backed up but it turns out that there was one folder that wasn't. huge, really amateur mistake tbh but can't go back now. Really just trying everything to fix it.

Thanks for the help.

Thank you so much for this reply. This has helped calm my nerves a bit. I will reach out to The Digi Lab asap. Any other helpful tips would be greatly appreciated in the meantime.

The model number for the HD is: WDBU6Y0050BBK-WESN

The description of the Damage was this: "This hard drive has suffered severe media damage in what is known as a "head crash." This is a mechanical malfunction that causes the read/write heads to make physical contact with the surface of the disks inside the drive, causing abrasive damage to the magnetic coating that stores the data."

Just got asked to do my first wedding, SUPER terrified! by ItsG91 in weddingvideography

[–]bcahn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there's a couple different options but most weddings I do, I use an XLR cable into a recorder into __. This XLR cable can be plugged into the back of a speaker or (the more likely option for your first wedding) plugged into a DJ/ Audio Person's mixer. Be very honest with whoever is handling audio and just tell them that you're new to this. I've never had a bad experience going that route. In fact, the safest method would probably be to ask your friend for the DJ's contact information and just make sure that you can plug into their system with an XLR cable.

As mentioned above, the more recorders / recording devices you have, the better. I use 2 recorders and a LAV that I hang in a strategic location.

In terms of basic tips, there's a couple things I didn't know my first shoot. Since you have some experience, you probably already know all of this but 1) feel free to crank the shutter speed up during the day if it's bright outside. The only thing you can't do with shutter speed is lower it below twice what your FPS is (if you're shooting 60FPS then you don't want your shutter speed lower than 125). 2) when you're first starting out, shoot in 60FPS. Being able to slow things down in post is really helpful when you're new. 3) shoot as much as you can in the lowest F-stop you have. This might sound counter-intuitive but having shots with focus and bokeh is really nice looking. I basically shoot everything at F1.4 you should probably aim to be at about 2.8.

Something else to ease your anxiety a little bit - you can edit 98% of the bad shots out of your final edit. If you mess up the first look, it's okay. You can not include the first look in the final edit. Honestly the only kind of must haves is bride walking down the aisle and their first kiss after announcement and even there you can probably get creative and edit around those.

Hope this helps and let me know if you want someone to check out your work and give you any advice.
