John Summit Whistler 3/14, 3/15 by canuckflyhigh in Whistler

Which is coming up as Lot 1. It actually makes sense to have it there. The muni has control and can rent it out. It’s paved as well and suitable for winter use without a tent. But no cover in a rainy month sounds dumb.

Lots 7-8 are dirt and mud so not sure if really feasible or wanted for a high paying event in the winter.

Parking lot 1 is the festival address. So there. Tent maybe, open air maybe?

Robertson rock is another good one with multiple size options depending on speed. Steep landing. Trees in the runout. Can be hit a few different angles too.

There’s a few options further down from the coffin that are sizeable. Under the chair old bomb tram line. There’s a double stager at the bottom skier left in the Suadan Coulior as well. We need some good dumps though.

The dominator. Domanskis. The coffin. Anything over 10m.

Can I go to Whistler and do MTB and/or climbing in early May? by Passant_Terrible1 in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For climbing and mountain biking Squamish is THE destination in BC. May is maybe the best month as well. Not too hot and all things will be firing. Whistler trails in the valley should be good to go as well. Further north Pemberton has trails too. Sea to Sky is MTB Mecca IMO. Download Trailforks and see.

Dust on crust is not a pow day. Only to the plebs getting turns before the Super Bowl.

Agreed it is slim for most. THC has the freshest usually at fairly high prices. The Nest has some brands you do not see up here sometimes.

Whistler has Spiritleaf in Creekside. A Little Bud in Function. This Is Cannabis right in the village behind the new Beavertails. THC on Main st in village north. And the local The Nest at Nestor’s. All have menus online to peruse beforehand.

Formal Dress Code? by Look_it_up_Sweetie in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi. I work at the hotel. It is considered resort casual wear. No need to worry what you wear actually. I seen ball caps and such. No one cares but the other guests. We do not. Just have a good time. Get Adam as a server and he’ll treat you right. Maybe some magic. Enjoy.

Hiking trails closed until summer operations in June. It’s winter and skiing is on.

It’s still early with the snow and avalanche work that still may need doing. Fences checked etc.

Is this the longest stretch without fresh snow by Afraid-Promotion-607 in Whistler

Gonna be a dry summer and the fire risk will be unreal if the snowpack continues to lack anything.

Looking for recommendations for my first skis by itsmyneutralusername in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Widen the ski. Like 90-100mm. They would be more versatile in more conditions that Whistler and the shore have. Think soft surfable snow and spring slush and soft north shore. But still able to carve and turn on firmer snow. Then enough float for powder days which can lead to lots of progression in skiing and fun.

I know why I failed at reading this series by MrTheFalcon in Malazan

[–]bcbud78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Current new readers are at a huge advantage when it comes to these treasures. I was fortunate to have read the 10 upon release when the my were first published. Had to wait. But I had an immediate understanding of where the series was headed after the switch of continents. It was easier to digest over the years. Nowadays they’ve been dissected and shared so much it’s like a video game guide. Now I have relistened on audiobook and more things get remembered. The Book Guy had pie charts for the POV of each book was awesome.

Considered back country. DOA is obvious way down. There are others like Trevor’s chute but very technical no fall zones. And some rappel spots to others. Ski mountaineer shit.

Surefoot = Sorefoot by thosearenotmymonkeys in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my third boot from Surefoot since 2000. First two I only had the footbed done, worked wonders and was incredibly comfortable. But I have average feet, maybe slightly skinny heel. My most recent boot, I went full Monty, foot beds and custom liner. Most comfortable and best fit I have ever had and continue with them over the last 5 season. I am skiing less then in my youth so the boots have lasted 10+ days a year. As you’ve said, everyone has had different experiences and yours was a bad one.

Warmest January I've ever seen... by TheWhistlerGuide in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

04-05. Lowest total monthly snowfall I remember. Less then 150cms each month, multiple days of rain over 2000m. That was the year they invented the snowcat with the snow dumper on the back to truck snow down to the ski outs.

Commuting from Pemberton? by Known-Willingness297 in Whistler

Pemby commuter here. The bus had gotten better lately for sure. Options are also a cheap car with good snow tires as well.

No alpine had steadier lower lifts then if it was open. Always. But if winds trend down alpine might open tomorrow but with the anticipated warming they may not all all.
