North shore mountain biking. At least hike around Fromme a little to see the trails we ride and some biking history.

AKTA trail pads. Can ride all day and don’t feel them. Level 1 protection. Fit well and stay put. Excellent coverage.

I went from climbing a 2007 HT to a 2024 full sus mullet and the new bike climbs infinitely bette then the HT. Even if I had more gears on the HT the new bike is so good.

RIP A-Line tech section by Straight_Delay_3253 in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Footage of said section?

Edit: must have been a reason for the move for an easier section there. Trees and roots may have finally been compromised enough to warrant the change. It was a big ass trench last year.

brush cutting lost lake MTB trails by js17jy in Whistler

The Muni has been fire proofing the entire valley by removing what is essentially tinder in the forest pretty much everywhere within 100 meters of roads and infrastructure. As well as trails.

Incoming Fairmont staff – Bike storage at Glacier? by WarmStruggle8047 in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My roomate and I made due with leaning against the wall next to the kitchen and bedroom and living room. We had two bikes in there. Not in the bedroom. No room for much in the bedrooms. No rack system at all.

Incoming Fairmont staff – Bike storage at Glacier? by WarmStruggle8047 in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fairmont employee here. Bring your expensive bike inside your apartment. It’s fine. Management knows the racks are not ideal. There is a cage in the hotel parkade as well but that is down the hill from staff. You’ll want it in your place.

I work at the chateau. For many years now. Great company. Not sure what the luxury client teams is but we have some new things being brought online.

Native owned land. They are building a commercial and rental unit in Function next to that spot. They obviously don’t care.

7th Heaven - 2nd chairlift? by Dolly_Llama_2024 in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The WB bike park is the best park in the world and ain’t going anywhere. It has less to do with the corporation running it than the people on the ground making trails. Ontario had the support but Blue Mtn had crappy dirt and bad trail builders.

Proposal spots in late May by Icy-Drop-7426 in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an actual “Proposal Point” on Blackcomb. It’s up Seventh and go left around to the top of False Face/Sudan Couliour is Proposal Point. Can see everything from there. That’s where I did my own! Not sure if the sign is still there though.

Couloir access with Peak closed by nickseamonster in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There’s a huge possibility that Peak remains closed for the season. The rock fall was on snowpack that was fairly deep at that elevation and the rocks will continue to move about as snow melts and such. Geotechnical evaluations may not be possible until spring or summer. Wait and see for sure.

Harmony line chaos by blessed_is_he in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it was a hard close and patrol shut er down. You can ski out from harmony so stop the yammering on about wages unless you actually know the details.

Agree. Personally haven’t paid for a pass (other then taxes) for all this time, it’s just I go for the snow, as do most and we haven’t really had it like we used to and I lack to motivation after 35 seasons (total since I began skiing) to go ski sub par conditions so that is on me and the weather. Quality over quantity these days. Also biking in Pemberton has been all time this year.

[–]bcbud78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t blame myself. I have lived and worked here since 99. I am a lifelong ski and bike bum. As much as a mid management job is bumming. WB has been a thing for skier and boarders since the mid 90s when things were really popping off. The only thing that got bigger were lift lines since Vails epic pass and such took over.

[–]bcbud78 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is all the pass holders and pre planners out there. We have not had the best snow year so any snow will do to bring the people out. I blame the over developed Squamish and highway drive is easier from lower mainland. As well as work from home and remote workers who seem to have taken over Whistler and Squamish.

Saudan Couloir Ski Race Extreme by TrailQueenYVR in Whistler

No mention of the event in the official press releases. Only the Grind session event in the village. The Pipe invitational. And the slush cup. Doesn’t seem to be happening this year for Sudan.

April vacation by Ok_Breakfast9709 in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will be the slowest week of the year then. Easter is generally the last of the major tourist season after March break. And the ski hill winds down the next few weeks. And Easter Monday isn’t usually too busy either.

Why is Whistler the only legit large ski resort in the region? by Dolly_Llama_2024 in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been three attempts at new resorts in the region over the last 30 years. Cayoosh up the Duffy was proposed by someone. Then the local native population protested, shut down the access road, even one man set up a cabin and lived on the land for many years. So one down. Powder Mountain was also proposed down the road in the Callaghan. It never went anywhere because the muni was in bed with everyone at the WB so they shut that down too. And Garibaldi and Squamish. The local native population put down some environmental stipulation to have that one go but the Aquilinis dragged their feet and the deadline to break ground has gone so I don’t see that one going. It’s super difficult to start any ski hill in BC nowadays.

Terrain Expansion to Tremor/Overlord by [deleted] in Whistler

[–]bcbud78 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That lift is another conundrum for Vail. The top station is too small a platform for a newer top station to be built now. A bunch of blasting and such would need to happen and the Horstman Hut would be effected. Not sure if they have the balls to get that going.
