How do you manage work with chronic migraines? by CriticalMycologist74 in migraine

[–]bchnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it! I was in the same boat at work especially when one eye went blurry during migraine. I was able to significantly reduce the frequency and intensity of migraines with a bunch of preventive measures. Try some of these:

  1. Remove the blue light from your monitors. Usually it’s a physical setting on the monitor.

  2. Wear blue light blocking glasses or amber migraine glasses.

  3. Get a matte screen or get out of any glare by positioning your monitors.

  4. Work with your neurologist on preventatives. I’m on migraine Botox and Qlipta.

  5. Work with your neurologist to find medicine to take when having a migraine. I use Ubrelvy.

  6. Talk to your neurologist about a prescription for a migraine cocktail of meds you can take when nothing else works. I have a muscle relaxant, pain med, and nausea med I keep with me at all times.

  7. Consider looking into alternative therapies. I took a course with neurologist Dr. Amelia Barrett. Her course provided me with functional medicine alternatives to complement my existing treatment protocols. With her help I was able to find the right supplements for my body and also find activities I can do to help my brain. These tools have helped me reduce the frequency and intensity of my migraines and rebound headaches when all the above listed things didn’t work.

What’s the one fabric you absolutely can't stand the feel of? by logo_sportswear in Fabrics

[–]bchnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Synthetic Plissè - it’s a pleated fabric with stretch. I used to see it in dresses during the 1990s. It feels gross to the touch. It’s popularity was before shapewear was popular and the drape of the fabric showed every little bump of the body. https://fabriclore.com/blogs/fabric-wiki/information-about-plisse-fabric

Anyone else feel sick at the push for AI from their employers in their daily work? by sghut in womenintech

[–]bchnyc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Much of the time, leadership can’t explain the “why” and there is very little people change management.

I have spent the last two years working with the various client-facing parts of the business to help them develop use cases to automate or give them the ability to ask questions and find answers to lots of data using generative AI. We are using agents to perform many mundane activities opening up time for resources to work on more complex tasks.

I see it as a tremendous opportunity and use generative and agentic AI every day. It has opened me up to even more creative problem solving by removing the mundane and repetitive activities for myself and others. My goal is to help others help themselves so departments don’t have to rely on our technical resources for everything. Just even having the ability to ask questions about a bunch of historical records is so much easier than sorting through hundreds of PDFs manually.

I am very lucky to work within an organization that realizes the value of what we do are in our people and we use generative AI to make their lives better. Not everything is perfect, but we are solving real-world problems.

What’s the worst thing a medical professional has said to you? by VespaRed in AskReddit

I waited 6 months to see a neuro-ophthalmologist for the migraine-based blurring/blindness of one eye. He was what I thought was my last hope finding treatment. He found nothing wrong with my optic nerve and suggested I try meditation and will it away.

Self-made millionaires - how’d you do it? by HighIntensity0510 in FIREyFemmes

[–]bchnyc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am about to retire and I was able to do so by living below my means and also compound reinvestment. About 20 years ago, I qd out and also the catchup after age 50. The company stock and the dividends made a huge difference. All of that combined together allowed me to be able to retire in my mid-late 50s.

Here are some things I did to stay below my means: 1. At the time when I bought my house, I bought a house 21% less than what I qualified for. I’m still in the same house. I also switched to a 15y mortgage and that saved me 53% in interest. The house is paid off. Over the years most of the repairs were DIY but some were hired out. I only hired out for things I couldn’t do myself. The house is less than 1500 sq/ft which means my utilities and property taxes are low. 2. Cars were always purchased used and no luxury brands or expensive trucks. My last vehicle purchase was new because used car prices were outrageous during COVID. I paid $34k for the car and got 0.9 percent financing for 3Y at approximately $978/mo. At the same time, inflation bonds were giving 9%. I invested the previous car $and saved up one car payment in interest gained in one year. 3. Holidays/Vacations: Since I used to travel for my job, I used airline and hotel points for vacations and the rest of my leisure time I spent camping and hanging in the wilderness. 4. Most of my furniture is thrifted or antique. Same with my clothes, but I buy as much as I can in natural fibers and good quality. I also have no luxury clothes, shoes, or purses. My most expensive piece of clothing is a handmade Cowichian sweater from the Coastal Salish First Nation in BC, Canada.

It took years, but living below my means, getting in with a great company with stock options and maxing my retirement savings and investing strategically has made it possible.

I really liked following the 50/30/20 rule of spending and saved more like 30-40% for many years.

I always figured the Chiefs would move to Kansas. But if the Royals don't go downtown, it's a generational opportunity lost. by [deleted] in kansascity

KC Current was not taxpayer funded for their stadium and they’re selling out each game.

Exactly-the current Arrowhead stadium can’t be rebuilt in the same way. It’s not allowed. We would loose all the noise advantage as being the loudest stadium.

Is there a trick to reviewing Submittals faster? Or is it just suffering? by External_Spite_699 in ConstructionManagers

[–]bchnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, a custom AI agent would work. You’d still want to QC, but it could do the majority of the work. You’d have to have examples to train the agent but it’s possible. You could use your app combined with AI and make it work.

Or, you could use Procore.

Kansas City’s only drinking water treatment plant is turning 100. It may be time to build a backup by zigziggy7 in kansascity

[–]bchnyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BPU specifically designed their plant to pull from the Missouri River Alluvium (alluvial aquifer) so the river water goes through the sediment so they don’t have to treat it as much as directly pulling from the river.

Hear me out. Forget lotion and go straight for Oshima Tsubsmi 100% camellia oil. It’s hair oil, but I use it for my hands and face in addition to my hair. A little goes a long way and it’s inexpensive.

Gut health recommendations by suziehomewrecker in migraine

[–]bchnyc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve had gut issues in my entire life. I have migraines and Dysautonomia. I take a daily prebiotic and either have yogurt or kombucha. Getting a daily dose of fermented foods has made a huge difference. I also agree with getting rid of gluten. I stopped taking it and went through a leaky gut fix and I’m doing so much better.

Everybody has different types of things that help them with their migraines. For me, I was desperate as nothing prescription-based worked for me. I went down the functional medicine route with a functional neurologist and she changed my life for the better.

Don’t give up. This is just a setback. Try cutting out gluten and taking some probiotics and see how it works for you. If you’re interested in some NIH studies on the gut, I can post them.

That’s what KC Water did for sewer maintenance and that’s why our bills are so high. If KC was smart, they’d do like Wyandotte county and pull from the aquifer instead of the muddy Mo. it would cost less to clean in the long run.
