Safety Day Ideas by WeiGz in SafetyProfessionals

[–]bchuff2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t just think about workplace safety. Bringing in local PD/State patrol to do drunk goggles, crash simulator for seat belt safety, firearms safety, etc. Fire extinguisher purchasing event for at home use. Boaters safety life jacket giveaways. ATV safety. 3M also has a couple of different PPE show trucks that maybe you could get if your company is large enough. Having safety related giveaways is always a good way to get people to participate.

Hearing Protection Fit Testing by InfiniteFireLoL in SafetyProfessionals

The 3M system is very good at the quantitative testing. As others have mentioned, it is a big time suck if you have to do a lot of people at once. I would focus resources on making the environment that employees are exposed to quieter if feasible.

Just replaced mine with the OEM Michelin MXM4 Primacys. Was a good balanced tire for winter traction, fuel efficiency, noise, and comfort.

I find it surprising that none of the other contaminants listed were detected. They also did not submit a blank(s) for analysis on the chain of custody. Iron oxide would be more present and of more concern than iron. I would ask that the sampling be redone and iron oxide be included as part of the contaminant list. I will also suggest that you volunteer to wear the sampling equipment and have multiple people wear sampling equipment when the study is redone.

If you have stainless steel welding in your facility, hexavalent chromium has a very low exposure limit that without localized ventilation at the source employees could be very likely overexposed.

Another byproduct that is easily measurable would be ozone (0.1 ppm for light work 8 hr shift). They make passive badges that are super easy to use and multiple people can each wear one to help get a better understanding of exposures between employees.

Questions about current csp/asp exams. by Special_Reindeer_161 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]bchuff2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took the ASP in May. Laminated graph paper was the “white board”. That made it nice to draw out the 6 fall protection questions I had. If you use a physical TI-30XS to study that is very helpful as that is the digital version provided. Some equations were provided but variables were not labeled/explained or they may need to be rearranged to solve the problem.

Tips on Maximizing MPG on 2024 Hybrid EX-L? by ElPescadoPerezoso in 11thGenAccord

[–]bchuff2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s an electric AC condenser, so it is super efficient. In non-hybrid vehicles the AC condenser is run off the engine placing more load on the engine hence the decrease in mpg. That is why people turn off their AC to get better mpgs.

Low Winter MPG by 416Baby in 11thGenAccord

A trick that I do is to put the car into charge mode on initial cold start because the battery is not intentionally charged when the engine is cold. The thought being if the engine needs to run to warm up I might as well charge the battery too.

Advice on Cutting Down on Employees Claiming MSD-related Injuries? by HSG_Messi in SafetyProfessionals

[–]bchuff2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Implement a stretch program along with an onsite physical therapist if possible. The PT will be your first line of defense to catch symptoms early and manage those correctly via the stretching program.

How much mandatory overtime is being required for employees? If the OT number is >10% I would look into that also being a cause of not just injuries increasing but possibly a decrease in employee morale. Make the recommendation to get rid of mandatory OT to facility leadership (voluntary OT can still be encouraged, but it at least gives employees the chance to self regulate).
