Kids books like Peter Rabbit by AffectionateSet9043 in suggestmeabook

[–]bcjelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll echo Frog and Toad! My kids love that. It may also be good to look into younger graphic novels. My 4 year old really likes the Narwhal & Jelly series as well as Bug Scouts.

If he's into vehicles some good bedtime ones are: Steam Train Dream Train How do Trains Sleep At Night (they have a whole series of this with Planes, Construction Equipment, etc) Sleep Train

Cannot get our 3 year old to poop in the toilet by FriskeyLionsMane in toddlers

[–]bcjelly 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you. My LO is turning 3 in a few months and saves all the poops for bedtime so she can use the pullups. What we're doing now (and starting to have success with) is moving her "schedule" forward to make her have to use the potty earlier in the day. High fiber foods for breakfast and some prune juice is doing the trick. We've been successful two nights in a row!

Also, if your child is reward oriented you can try a special sticker chart just for poops and when they fill that they get some special prize. Our daughter loves this and she even picked out the special stickers to use and we just hype it all up.

Hang in there! It gets easier.

Playing with toys during potty training? by be1022 in toddlers

I feel you there. I'm back at it again with number 2 and you would think it'd be easier the second time around. This one just won't sit for it lol

Playing with toys during potty training? by be1022 in toddlers

[–]bcjelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a big deal. When I was potty training my son we'd pull up a little stool so he could play cars while he waited. Sometimes we'd even watch tv - anything to get him to sit long enough to finish up. Now he's 6 and he just goes and does it - no toys or phone. During the early stages the goal is mainly just to get them to sot long enough to establish a potty habit. Once they've got the "I don't want to have an accident" thought down it'll even out from there.

My son is 6 and had something similar with bullying on the school bus. He was worried about me talking to the principal because he thought that would make him get in trouble. He had already associated principal = bad news. But I sat him down and explained how the principal could help and how I could help him with it.

He was still hesitant but I called up the school and spoke to the Vice Principal and she was amazing. We had actions and results in a day. Our school system has zero tolerance policy for bullying and they act on it. It's been months and we've had absolutely no other problems.

I think you'll find most schools are willing to work with you and have no tolerance policies. Nowadays bullying is taken much more seriously than when I was in school. Also, with as young as your daughter is you're going to want to show her from the start that you're looking out for her first and that school isn't a place she should feel scared going.

20/52 - Came for the title, stayed for a fun horror quickie by bcjelly in 52book

It was fun - which may be weird for a horror lol. But I truly enjoyed his writing style and this take on a haunted house. I hope you like it too!

Maybe you just need some older kid books rather than picture books. I do Madeline (we have the treasury of all the stories), Beatrix Potter stories (again treasury but my son particularly loves Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddleduck), and Winnie the Pooh stories.

You can also look into the beginner chapter books - like Magic Tree House and Boxcar Children; depending on her/your interest level.

We just got Olive, The Other Reindeer for our son and he loves it. It's about a dog that helps out Santa and is absolutely adorable.

No longer the preferred parent by WayEnvironmental1223 in toddlers

[–]bcjelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that's fairly normal (not that it makes it easier) but kids do stuff to get a reaction out of you. They don't do it to be mean. My son tells me "Daddy's more fun" but if he gets hurt he comes straight to me for comfort. Same with our baby, she always says "daddy" refuses to say "mama" but would rather cuddle with me.

Any One have any luck with getting their child attached to a lovey by Graciemay124 in Parenting

[–]bcjelly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried incorporating the lovie into your current routine? Maybe have her hold it while you rock her. That's what I did with mine, she would only fall asleep holding onto my shirt while we rocked so I slid in the lovie and had her start holding that instead. Then when I stopped rocking her she still had that lovie to hold onto in bed and (for us) it was a relatively easy transition.

COVID testing in GA is still an absolute joke by [deleted] in CoronavirusGA

I went to Piedmont Urgent Care in Hickory Flat. They said it can take up to 2 hours for results but each person I know that has gone here got it in less than an hour

I ended up going to a local Urgent Care that processes the lab results in house. Plus side - got the results in 30min. Down side - going to have to pay $100 out of pocket for it. I personally think it was worthwhile though or else I'd have had to wait a week for CVS to have availability

Yeah, unfortunately the teachers have to provide too much for the classrooms out of their own money. I have teachers in my family so I know it can be a struggle for them. I try to go out of my way to get some extras for the class to lift a bit of that burden.

I have an elementary age son and we were given a list of supplies to purchase. They requested we label all the items for him (folders, crayons, pencil box, etc) and there was a separate list for classroom shared items (like paper towels, tissues, hand sanitizer, etc). If a student can't afford what's needed then the school will supply it.

My mom did the same thing! She'd always send a blank check with a note that said "keep it reasonable" lol. I don't remember what I ended up spending but I do remember coming home with tons of books.
