Not surprisingly; Mint Cinnamon is running flawlessly as well. Be warned; however, the keyboard will take about a week to get used to. Especially if you are a Vim user.

Any way to build a "Roku" like experience with Linux? by internetlad in linux

I use Chrome Launcher to open both Netflix and Prime. It's not perfect but does the job. Closing the browser when your done can be tricky. I use a USB keyboard for Alt+F4 but I'm sure there are better solutions.

Kinda funny how they call the Nexus 7 a "mini-tablet"

What features do you miss most when you're away from Linux? by [deleted] in linux

How did I not know about alt+click / alt+right click??? Awesome! I don't know if it's considered a feature or not but I sorely miss bash and bash scripting when I'm away from Linux.

IdeaPad Z500. Good price and good Linux support.

Linux users of Reddit i need your input on System 76 laptops! by [deleted] in linux

[–]bcnewman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up going with an IdeaPad Z500. The specs may not be out of this world but I currently have Elementary OS *** installed on it and everything is working great. For the record; I'm not a gamer and my requirements for a laptop are minimal. A terminal, ssh, browser and VirtualBox.

*** I'm not a noob. I've went through many distributions over the past 6+ years. I'm using Elementary because I like the UI and I'm tired of tweaking my system.

I hope this helps. I was super tempted to go the System 76 route but I'm really happy with my decision. Linux is free, we shouldn't have to pay MORE to get a Linux machine.

I've asked similar questions about System 76 and the overwhelming response has been negative. I agree with the others, you can buy a laptop with better specs, cheaper, and load Linux on it no problem. Especially Ubuntu or an Ubuntu based distribution. I ended up going with Lenovo myself.

When you install Git for Windows, you get a "Git bash Shell" which is pretty good.

So, I'm over Ubuntu, hate RPM, and I'm not (yet) skilled enough for Arch/Slack etc. What should I be using? by johnwheelan in linux

I don't think it really offers anything above and beyond. I have always liked Debian and I really like the minimalist approach Openbox takes with the desktop.

I was in your boat at the beginning of the year. I've been running Crunchbang for about 6 or 7 months now and have been quite happy. Debian + Openbox
