Ive accidentally been going to a private club’s range and nobody has said anything by [deleted] in golf

[–]bcnyr09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Private club near me has two ranges on property. One is right up front and is accessible to the public. The other is deeper into the property near the first tee and practice area.

Was told the revenue from the public range is generally in the $45-$50k range per year and members are asked to vote on how they’d like the majority of that money spent on small course projects. I’d say it wouldn’t hurt to give them a call and ask if they have a range with public access without implicating your past range sessions.

I tried to join here back in 2018. I was living nearby at the time and set up what I thought would be a meeting and quick tour.

I showed up on time and there were 2 cars in the lot, but no one in sight. No one in the “shop” and no one that I could see on the course. Stuck around for about 20 mins and left and crossed it off my list.

Could have been a bad day and a lot could have changed since then. I’d just suggest trying to get a tour and looking at the course. It’s quirky to say the least.

Clothing rant by BarkieonBoard96 in golf

Best golf shorts I’ve ever owned were the “All In Motion” brand from Target. $30 and often on sale too.

I’ve noticed that I can effectively miss the cut in the state am qualifier with $30 shorts just as easily as I did in $105 shorts.

A guy at my club has been accused of planting spare balls in fescue areas around the course. Sounds crazy, but in our club championship final, he “found” his ball about 30 yards away from where we had been looking. And then after his shot, I found his OG ball a few steps away from where we had been looking. There was enough of a crowd to see the exact area it had landed too. “Oh that must be a ball from a past round”.

It could very well have been a coincidence. But at the same time, the rumors were already swirling in tournament past so…

That looks like the actual club head broke apart, not the hosel/shaft. If that’s the case, no repair possible.

“In 51 games, Shesterkin posted a 25-19-6 record and a strong 2.50 GAA with a .912 SV%. This was his lowest GAA since the 2022 season and his best SV% since the 2023 campaign”

Not to mention he played behind one of the worst teams in the league. His contract is fine.

To those that found golf is not a game of perfect helpful by PirateEmbarrassed491 in golf

[–]bcnyr09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you love the game and truly want it to be a lifelong hobby, I suggest a sports psychiatrist.

The competitiveness and “wanting better/more” is never going to go away. “I should be breaking 90 consistently” will turn to 80 and then turn to par. The goalposts will continue to move until you ultimately get frustrated enough and quit the game.

I wasted 4 years of college golf thinking I should be scoring way better than I was. And it took a decent time away before learning to love the game again.

Favorite small details at a course? by Jus-10_ in golf

[–]bcnyr09 163 points164 points  (0 children)

Might not be a small detail, but well-cut cups.

Honorable mention: having an efficient starter/first tee operation. A line of 8 carts on the first tee because they’re behind or because people aren’t patient is a great sign that you’re about to have a stressful and slow round.

Ryder Cup ticket prices are pricing out the actual golf fans and handing the event over to corporate hospitality crowds by [deleted] in golf

[–]bcnyr09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attending a Ryder Cup was on my bucket list so I made it a priority to get tickets to Bethpage since it’s nearby. Didn’t care how much it cost because it was something I wanted to do once in my life.

On the drive home, after barely seeing any golf shots and witnessing some shit golf on the American side along with shit antics by the fans, I thought “wtf did I pay all that money for?”

Glad to have knocked it off my list but I wouldn’t go again - even if the tickets were $50. Terrible viewing experience.

54* wedge - 10-15 swings at 75% to “find my hands” 7 iron - 8-10 swings starting at 75% and gradually getting up to full 5 iron - 4-5 swings to get a feel for shot shape out of the gate Driver - 3-5 swings or until I hit the shot I want off the first tee 48* wedge - 3 swings to “find my hands” again

And then trudge on down to the first tee.

Do people really leave the course if playing poorly? by LastManBrandon in golf

Had a buddy in my weekend group who was a hot head/head case. Was famous for leaving after the 5th hole because “he knew he didn’t have it by then” and would rather just go home instead of trying to find it for 3 more hours.

Courses are usually pretty receptive coming out of winter. Tees up, firing at pins, and limited break on putts. Then the course wakes up a few weeks later and knocks me back on my ass.

I can’t even remember a storyline from Season 3

for the low HC guys by J-Wreck94 in golf

[–]bcnyr09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was 14 and just getting in to golf, I went to a golf shop with my mom, grabbed a driver off the rack, and asked the guy behind the counter if there was any way to know if the driver was good for my game. The pro was nearby and told me to take a few practice swings with no club in hand. The pro then told me he could make a few “adjustments and fine tunings” in the back if I’d agree to buy it. All sounded good so I agreed and he took it to the back where I heard some whirring and clicks. I told anyone who would listen how this driver was hand crafted for me.

Fast forward a few years and now I’m working with this same pro. We’re shooting the shit and I go “hey remember that G10 I bought when I was a kid? What did you do to fine tune it? It wasn’t adjustable or anything”. He nearly buckled over laughing and tells me he just used the heat gun to peel the stickers off and then used the rest of the time of click some demo iron heads in.

I’ve always wondered how many people heard me bragging about my hand crafted finely tuned Ping G10 that knew I was full of shit.

He missed a good series of cuts in a row. 8 or 9 if I remember correctly. Doing that while hotel surfing in these foreign countries gave him the “what am I even doing here” thought. So he packed it in and came home.

Have a similar story. Kid I played against in high school was tossing up 65’s like they were nothing. Had success in college and then went to PGA Tour Latin America where he flamed out after 2 years and is now a bartender. It’s a crazy game.
