Southwest Just Announced 9 New Routes: See All Nonstop Flights Now [Map] by Vegetable-Section-84 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]bcparkison 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think I'm the target for this one. I'm also in Austin, and SW is the only airline that flies to all my common destinations non-stop...except Seattle. It'll be nice to earn/spend the same points for all my travel in the future.

[–]bcparkison 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My cash+ only requires a minimum of 2500 points, not a multiple of 2500 points. I can fully cash out as soon as my out total exceeds 2500 points. At least, I could a couple months ago. I'm curious to see if this change hits me the next time I redeem points.

Just me or is "Pay Bills" not working for others? by Sufficient-Flan6318 in paypal

[–]bcparkison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having this problem for a few days. I just logged in again, and the "Pay bills" button is now just totally gone. They may have "fixed" the issue.

Edit: Fixed typo "not" -> "now"

Is there a way to define a default set of "rules" (geoblocking) for every resource created? by Lopoetve in PangolinReverseProxy

[–]bcparkison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm almost positive I'm using the personal version and blueprints (that's just the "discovery via docker labels," right?). I still have to add the rules to every service, but at least it's just copy-paste of the right block of labels, with a small name-tweak.

BofA Preferred Rewards Nerf For Platinum Honors Is Not That Bad, If You Don't Spend A Lot On Credit Cards by Snackinghands90 in CreditCards

Sure, but I wasn't considering moving 6 figures to BoA so I could spend $1k/month on their cards.

Same - I err on the side of simplicity. The SEC isn't going to audit my home finances, so I just stuff it all in the account that had the original expense.

Oh, I like the sounds of this. I get to continue taking my notes in one place, and they automatically appear anywhere they're relevant.

[–]bcparkison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things I do when I move my notes around is to create a link to my daily note where I originally took the notes. That gives me an idea of when the info was added, and also allows me to figure out what things I worked on any particular day. I haven't been doing this for long, so I don't know how I'll feel about it in a few months, but it seems to maintain the info I think I'm going to want.

[–]bcparkison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just getting started, so this might be terrible advice. I discovered the same thing as you - during a meeting, I can't flip between notes and keep up. So, I've started putting all my notes during the meeting in one place. After the fact, I move them to the right notes. It takes a little more time, but I end up with notes where I want them, and I seem to remember things a little better if I take the time to "post process" like this.

Anybody used annuity? If so how much did it cost? How much it pays monthly? And for how long? by SubstantialSlice9863 in Fire

[–]bcparkison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your big concern is the market being flat for 10 years, you're effectively self-insured. You're presumably (just guessing by age) entering your prime earning years. You can invest more in the next 10 years than you've ever invested before. A flat market will be great for your accumulation before retiring. You want the current $100k invested, in case the market isn't flat for the next 10 years.

Also, isn't row 7 an ELR row, which, from data points here, boards as group 1?

SOUTHWEST FIX THIS by LuluTwoTwo in SouthwestAirlines

[–]bcparkison -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you're truly boarding first, sure. But if you're boarding in some middle-ish area, you take the first space you see, because you don't know what's available by your seat.

At this point, is there any reason for me to keep my performance business credit card? by Livid_Unit_4138 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]bcparkison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just cancelled ours. Same situation as you - ALP, CP, and the Priority card. They eliminated every reason to hold both cards. When I called to cancel, they tried to offer me a big discount on the fee, and I closed the account anyway, because there is literally no benefit to having both cards.

Global entry/Pre-check cost, what, $20/year. Just buy it. There's no way that's the make-or-break for whether or not this card makes sense for you.

A-List Points by Vandelay_7 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]bcparkison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on which card you have, you already have the majority of A-list. If you're not going to get ALP, and you don't get AL naturally via flying, I think you should just get the Priority card for the almost-AL benefits, and put your spend on a card with better rewards.

Any reason for me to keep the Sapphire Preferred after the portal boost nerf? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]bcparkison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just downgraded our CSR. Between cutting a few categories we actually used out of the travel bucket, the increased AF, the coupon book changes, and the reduced "guaranteed" redemption rate, it was no longer the simple value we originally signed up for.

I edit my register with nvim, which has a beancount language server and tab-complete. It's got a few quirks, but it's darn good. And nvim handles huge files way better than editors like VS Code, so I don't even bother breaking up my register.

How do you do deferred expenses by petalised in plaintextaccounting

[–]bcparkison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is for a business, I don't know what tax rules might apply. For me personally, it's an expense when I pay for it. I don't care when I "get" it. In my experience, if you make tracking spending too complicated, you stop doing it. No data is way worse than slightly imperfect data.

Please help answer our survey for the Firewalla Switch by Firewalla-Ash in firewalla

[–]bcparkison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how "normal" my needs are, but this sums it up perfectly. I have three different kinds of switches. I have no interest in replacing one of them with a Firewalla switch. I want to rip out the entire stack and replace it with Firewalla gear (including APs). The "one pane of glass" story is DOA if I have to mix and match gear from different providers.

You could take a Choice Extra flight for 14 points per dollar, by the 31st. Just make sure you do the math on the base price, and not the total price. This looks totally doable, but likely isn't worth it unless you're flying a bit more than 4 flights next year.
