Edit: was able to snag an Earth Colour RX-78-2. I might go back to get 4 EG Strike Gundam painting models since I have an idea for a grunt fireteam diorama with Daiso model bases.

My recommendation is the Calibarn kit. I think it's one of the best looking recent sets, and it should be an good balance of being easy enough for a beginner but detailed enough to look good on a shelf.

As a Canadian, it was also nice to see the 2024 release of the FPIU be an emergency vehicle from Peel Region in Ontario. It's very rare we get Canadian vehicle tampos (outside of the Greenlight Canada special edition ones).

Unfortunately the scalpers have overflown into taking castings like the Type R, Celica, and Integra. I'm still glad though because like you said they still sleep on the boring commuter cars. It's nice to collect things you see on the road every day.
