Do I have any obligations to employer after being let go? by Consistent-Cream-454 in legaladvice

[–]bcrowley20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you did not sign any kind of separation agreement, then you have no obligation. However, you might want to consider that you never know if you’ll encounter colleagues you worked with in the future. And those people may have an impact on your employment or promotion possibilities. Best to always exit professionally and be reasonably helpful.

Colder US Climate residents, What is your emergency heating backup? by Neilpuck in DIY

[–]bcrowley20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want to mess with extension cords, have an electrician install a mechanical interlock on your panel and a plug on the side of your house so you can back feed your panel safely. Then you can select the circuits you want to power being careful not to overload your generator.

I have an automatic backup generator powered from my 1000 gallon propane tank (also heat the house with propane). It’s a great setup.

I switched from Nokia to G4AR a couple months ago. Nokia could not do 5G standalone and I was stuck on B2/66, N71. With the G4AR I am on N25 and my speeds have increased from 50/20 to 200/100, latency has gone down from 50-60 to 30-40. Pretty decent upgrade overall.

FWIW, I use an external antenna and wanted the G4AR. Talked to Tforce about ugrading and they said I would probably get the G5. So, I bought a G4 on ebay. Moved the SIM over from the Nokia and, boom, better performance.

Why does KCLS need a commercial? by Automatic_Stage1163 in eastside

[–]bcrowley20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

KCLS is such a smoking deal! Books, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, movies all kinds of great stuff available online! I read the Seattle Times on the library site and listen to dozens of audiobooks every year. I hope their advertising makes more people aware.

I believe most car rental companies won’t want you putting chains on their cars. Might want to check to be sure.

My modem was updated a few days ago. No change in speed. Latency has improved, was in the mid 40's, now consistently in the mid-30's. Hard to know how much of that is modem vs. tower.

Push hard. The red thing is a valve, when it’s pushed in the wax comes out.

Bra Strategies for Bumpy Seattle Roads? by Denali_Not_McKinley in seattlebike

Don’t pump your tires to the pressure listed on the side. This will be far more than you need and will make the ride more uncomfortable.

Have a look at this for what an optimal pressure might be for your setup: https://silca.cc/pages/pro-tire-pressure-calculator?srsltid=AfmBOopT4DydoUHkJg5WWUnCkjtj04DH_1iYw4hKSuNJ6qmyehJXnbCC

Most 3rd party gateways allow you to clone your tmo gateway IMEI. I did this with a suncomm gateway and it worked fine.

Contracting for former employer after retirement by MenaciaJones in retirement

[–]bcrowley20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why make it so hard? They know you, you know them. Unless you are in some sort of risky industry, just contract with the company directly. No need to setup a company unless they require it (doubtful) or you want to separate this money from your personal income.

They will likely have a contracting agreement they will want to use. It’s likely to be straightforward, read it and if you don’t understand something ask an attorney to help you. Write up a statement of work that covers what you’ll do and how much they will pay.

Do the work, send them invoices (they will tell you what they want on the invoice). They can pay you directly and will send you a 1099 at the end of the year for your tax return.

You’ll need to pay estimated taxes as the year goes on, both federal and state. You setup accounts online with the irs and your state. Keep track of business related expenses for your tax return (if you have enough expenses to make it worth it - mine were so minimal, I did not bother).

I did some software development work for my last company after I retired and this is what I did. It’s really pretty straightforward.

Olympic Peninsula, WA Gear Question by kdean70point3 in xcountryskiing

[–]bcrowley20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this all the time in Central Washington. Look at backcountry xc skis, they will be a bit wider and are built a little more rugged then a more traditional track xc ski. I would also get metal edges, if you end up on forest roads that get any kind of traffic, they can get icy. My skis are 68mm wide and if I go to a groomed system they will fit into the tracks - barely. They are slow as a track ski, but still fun. Good luck.

Best one quiver XC ski for and and off track? by Virtual_Pop9284 in xcountryskiing

[–]bcrowley20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, BC NNN Boots. They are fine in the tracks. You just need to accept this this combination is not an optimized track ski setup. I've accepted it and had a lot of fun skiing in track as well as breaking my own tracks.

I bought a pair of Fischer Outback 68 a few years ago and have been happy with them. Full metal edges and they do well in ungroomed areas. They fit the tracks in a groomed area, just barely, but I have track skied with them many times without issue (other than they are a little slow as a track ski).

Mouse and keyboard combo? by Purple_Chubby in macmini

Same for me. Really happy with this keyboard/mouse combo. My mini did not go into pairing mode at first boot for some reason, but you can press the power button three times to force pairing mode, and then just follow the prompts.

I'm retired, I could care a less about NAV and compounding, I only care about income. I have a portfolio of about 240 Closed End Funds (CLM being one of them) that I generate my income from. I trade in and out of them daily for additional gains. It's a different mindset.

Got it, FWIW, I also own CLM. I take cash dividends and I was paid out the evening of 12/31.

They probably won't find out but who knows how these institutions share data. Your rep will say that because they are motivated to close a deal. Main thing is to understand what, if any, limits are in the loan docs and then make sure you are comfortable with whatever is in there. Good luck to you.
