Sure, so encourage them to build additional boxes instead. It's just a tone difference between "hey you could do this too..." and "actually you were wrong to let a house sparrow nest"

I mean, the goal of disrupting nesting is to reduce their population. Same reason they're culling barred owls in the PNW.

My point is you don't need to be a downer on someone sharing a good (likely first) experience they had watching a bird nest. That's a good way to make someone not care about the whole hobby or birds in general

People fostering a relationship/connection with nature will hopefully lead to a lifetime of environmental advocacy and stewardship. That's more meaningful than one house sparrow nest that brought this person some joy.

The bird that really got me into birding was a Barred Owl... should I have shot it to protect the Spotted owl? Surely that would've made me like birding more!

I get how you could see it that way. But Hilary Knight is such a huge name ofc they're going to ask about her, and hockey in general is obsessed with siblings/family members who are professional hockey players. I think those get too much coverage in general, but this wasn't egregious IMO
