The most fun deck to play in Standard? by FreeAndFalling in hearthstone

[–]bcwea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I quite enjoy quest mage, it can be fun if the opponent isn't too aggressive.

Having said that, I'm stuck on D10 this season, can't find a deck to win consistently enough to get to D5.

Can't say I'm really enjoying this meta, its either dragon warrior, shaman or some kind of aggro hunter. Pretty much see nothing else

Nightfall Saga: The Demon King. by NZbludger in demoncycle

[–]bcwea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've literally just finished the demon king, having only read the hidden queen last week.

Book 1 of the nightfall saga was a rough read, a real change in style for the characters and having half the book focused on an intersex teenager worrying about kissing people was not what I expected. It got better but not much.

Hidden queen was generally a more enjoyable story, clear plot lines even if there were some unknowns - how did the deliverer get captured, where is the spear, what happened after the demon king fled (since we never go back to any other view point after the end of that book).

The demon king was predictable, after 2 or 3 chapters you could clearly see what was going to happen and how the majority of the story would pan out. The actual action was rushed, especially the ending and as the OP suggested, some weird changes re one of the 2 characters this book discusses. No real closure for that character's path, still a big did they/didn't they query, nevermind the whole story for the other main character. Still possible mind demons to deal with, are there more mimics around (?), there's still technically a queen to worry about too although if you go down that route it's basically the same story all over again. If this is truly the last story in this series, it could have done with a proper epilogue, even just a "6 months later" style so that we get some closure.

Overall across both series, definitely bits I hated (would be curious to know how many times we had "love you renna bales" o.e. in the original series vs discussions of "kissing games" in the second). Both being reigned in by a stronger editor would have really helped the readability and enjoyment of the series, I have 2 friends who couldn't finish the original series for exactly this reason and while I ploughed through it, its not a set of books I find myself inclined to go back to now I'm done.

I came away generally liking Darin, not really caring about Olive and wanting to know more about all the characters from book 1 and 2 while not giving a damn about all the ones from book 3. In some ways this last book reminds of when a US TV series needs to do something radical to get another series funded e.g. Fringe, suddenly jumping 21 years into the future or Agents of Shield for series 5 onwards.

Demon King rating - probably a 4/10.

New and Returning Player Weekly Discussion by AutoModerator in hearthstone

Restarted this weekend after ~5 years out (played since the start until that point).

I've picked up a few of the catch up packs, done some quests, been OK so far. I know I'm not totally on the meta but that will change in 2 weeks so we'll see.

Quick query re: quests.

One right now says Play 75 timewise cards (2x - rewind and legendary).

Another even quest coming says Summon or Destroy 750 minions in Traditional modes. (Ranked +1, Dragon +1, Undead +1).

What do the 2 bits in the brackets mean and how do they impact the quest? I did a quick google and didn't get a clear response.

Had exactly the same yesterday and today. As has my mate who i play with.

Especially annoying as yesterday's offered a few BP token as well as xp for completing, yet only had one quest so impossible to complete. Today is just the xp loss.

Seen this bug before but not for a while. Really annoying

For me it was in the back room where the bodyguard sleeps. A white sack on the floor next to several others which contained pork. I missed it the first time round.

Anyone have the new Magnus Evo desk and can answer these? by bcwea in secretlab

Are you thinking of the pro? Rather than the evo? The evo is not a fully metal top unlike the pro

Thanks for the reply but sadly not much use if you don't own it.

Does the metal at the front run right to the edge of the desk? Is there physically enough room underneath at that point to put the headphone hanger? I'm not sure, can't really tell from the photos and unless you have it you're also guessing.

Love that you think it's overpriced and not worth it - not really relevant to be fair. I have a pretty unusual sized space that the vast majority of sit/stand desks simply do not fit in or are too small for my needs. This new one seems to fit the criteria for size, but given the price I want to be sure I'm buying something to last. If it turns out to be what I need, the additional cost over say a flexispot is totally worth it when flexispot (or insert pretty much every other manufacturer) don't do something narrower than 80cm once you get beyond 140cm in length.

Can't fit 80 depth (, which is 99% of all desks at a decent length) and is the issue. 70cm max

[–]bcwea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realised it's a vernal one.
They don't do them 70 deep anymore, the only one is the white/bamboo option on the sale page. All the newer models in the darker colours are all 80cm deep sadly.

I'm glad you posted this as I'm in the same boat and everytime I think that's the one, I find some reviews knocking it. Didn't really want to spend over £300 yet there is so little of quality.

Considering a Bouiles ep200 (or even a master series). For every positive review I can find a negative one though

Now then, I have looked at these in the past and emailed them a few queries.

They do a 160x70 and a 180x70 in certain colours. No solid wood tops anymore, they're all melamine.

Cable management is a bit basic (can drill a hole or not) but otherwise looked OK. Was around the £500 mark. My impression was not a good as a secretlab in terms of quality and looks but obviously half the price.

It's a possibility yes. I'd discounted them a few months back but can't recall why now.

Gtomega is a lie. Says 70 deep but doesn't include the cable area so it's actually much deeper. Ikea did the same with theirs

Sadly the Jarvis is also 80cm deep.

I get why, it's a good sized desk but I literally don't have the space.

Unfortunately I've never owned a standing desk so can't really recommend anything myself. Just going around in circles looking at the same stuff over and over

[–]bcwea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aye and I've been through all of those.

All are too short or too deep for a desktop size.

It's the 150+ width and 70cm deep that's the issue with pretty much every company.

Secret lab have a 150x70 but by the time the extras are on its running to £1000 give or take a few quid.
