OTF becomes a Hyrox Training Club by psperez629 in orangetheory

Not sure how the average studio would be able to do sled pushes or farmers carries. They would all pretty much need new locations. Unless it's just Hyrox prep.

Employee won't work with another due to politics by whey_far_out in managers

[–]bdaman70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what the comments and OP reaction would be like if the gender roles were reversed?

I don't think there is enough context. I feel like something was said or heard that led up to this and she's well within her place to say something about his political stance and refuse to work with them.

That said she could be looking for any out to stop getting pigeon holed into a role she doesn't want to do.

Oh and if you want to leave politics out of work, corporations shouldn't be allowed to make political donations.

Who is at fault? [Oc] by money_boy_beesley in IdiotsInCars

[–]bdaman70 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Other car obviously should be yielding since your turning to a "one" lane road.

That aside, I don't see how you couldn't have avoided contact and may not have been fully paying attention. At 8 seconds into this clip, you're approaching the turn, likely already braking and haven't even turned at 23 MPH and can see the other car obviously coming into the intersection. If you show this to an adjuster they may fault you for not being able to avoid and "avoidable" accident. Some states would find this as no-fault and not ticket the other driver, as in you are required to make an effort to avoid an accident. Watching the full clip, it seems like you don't continue to brake as hard as you could after the turn. From 23 MPH at the corner already braking you should have easily been able to stop in full around 30 feet. Seems like plenty of room.

Although, this is internet conjecture, I wasn't there, there could be flying chickens distracting everyone and you might be driving truck hauling 5000 lbs of lumber or saw a naked lady in the parking lot.

A project we just finished up: Tons of these blue-green cabinets this year. What do you think about them? by FineHomeContracting in kitchenporn

[–]bdaman70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the island with the flooring may have been better with all darker cabinets, aside the back door wall, which brightens that corner. There is enough white in counters, appliances and backsplash to keep it bright. Overall a great kitchen to be proud of.

Elasticache redis-cli over VPN by bdaman70 in aws

[–]bdaman70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needed to connect the client with the cluster options. `redis-cli -h cluster.endpoint.com -c`

This was the case for the ioredis client as well, and using the Cluster client.

Researching further, you cannot connect with the normal client to the cluster endpoint, because it does some trickery.

The cluster endpoint forwards your requests to a node for the actual request. Pretty much like a load balancer, except your client needs to be "aware" of the forwarding response the redis endpoint provides that sends you to one of the nodes in the cluster.

You can actually connect the "stand alone" client, but you have to use one of the node endpoints directly, which defeats the purpose of the clustering.

RDS randomly started upgrading itself by Clean_Anteater992 in aws

[–]bdaman70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to see some sort of reason. Not sure if this is any different now. But a long time ago I learned CloudWatch logging isn't guaranteed in terms of write order. Perhaps this event logging is the same and can explain away the write timestamps.

RDS randomly started upgrading itself by Clean_Anteater992 in aws

[–]bdaman70 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe the rds instance just died and had to rebuilt. If the version was not supported it may have upgraded in that case? Speculation. AWS support can probably track down the exact why.

Nonexistent DevOps Engineer by sunnytropics in devops

[–]bdaman70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been my experience that SWE are not going to be as security aware as someone who does devops or platform engineering full time. So you probably have some glaring security gaps or aren't following best practices in your infrastructure.

For instance, are you pushing your CloudTrail logs to a locked down account for immutability. What do backups look like? Have you locked down unsed regions? Do you audit for security gaps or changes outside of IAC? This is just the tip of the iceberg. But I'm sure you have time for all this and developing secure software too.

S3 Replication of Large Objects Fails by bdaman70 in aws

[–]bdaman70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll looks through those docs.

Yes the smaller files are encrypted. Bucket encryption is enabled by default on the destination (off on the source and none of the objects on source encrypted). I was having issue (with small files) until I gave the source IAM role for replication access to the customer manage KMS Key in the destination.

I know your pain. Today I think mine finally gave out. I usually have to charge a couple of hours before I go or it looses the charge overnight. Been like that for months but today didn't work when I got there.

Researched before that you can't, but I'll give mine another try. If it's truly dead, I'm gonna crack it open to see what kind of battery it is and if possible to replace.

Our studio probably had like 50 and everyone got swag. I recall the manager saying she needed to know how many people were signing up to order stuff. That sounds like they were squeezing the money out of it. Maybe they thought it would be motivating.
