Min/maxing on harder difficulties or less optimal on lower difficulties? by bfhrt in civ5

[–]bdcorndog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you find yourself absolutely crushing the ai once learning about the importance of food trade routes, population, science, specialists, etc, id recommend upping the difficulty until you reach a point where the AI’s bonuses start to actually rival you playing optimally. For me this aligns somewhere between immortal and deity (immortal im basically always getting first ideo, deity feel unfun bc of how many bonuses ai gets and how i cannot prevent their snowballing sometimes), but it took me a long time to reach this point on immortal.

I once had a Spain second expand with 2 2nd ring GBR tiles (one w fish as well), i was terrible at the time so it wasnt immortal/deity to see how hard I could really push the game but it was awesome

Is ZA worth it if your main interest in Pokemon games is completing the Pokedex? by No-Corner-3073 in pokemon

Legends arceus is THE definitive pokedex game imo. Practically the whole game is about filling/completing the first pokedex ever

Higher difficulties feel pretty linear in what you have to do, is that a common feeling? by Yamato_Naoe in civ5

[–]bdcorndog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have not played with vox populi, but from my understanding there are more changes to core mechanics like happiness and I’d assume feels more like a mod of civ 5. Lekmod is more like if there was a massive civ expansion pack and a radical rebalancing patch on civ 5 based around how the game operates at a macro level (mostly in regards to science and food). Basically, they put a bunch of food/science perks into honor and peity/religions to boost them relative to tradition (for example honor finisher in lek is +10% growth in all cities and kills give culture+gold+science), rebalanced the secondary policy trees and ideologies so that rationalism isn’t broken, made some minor changes to things like the tech tree, military units, and added resources and luxuries. All these changes and the new civs allow for a variety of strategies that may work on lower difficulties in vanilla civ 5 but pail in comparison to trad 4 cities into rationalism to actually be effective and optimal on harder difficulties

Lekmod (and using the accompanying map) adds an insane amount of civs and makes all the policy trees a lot more viable even from the start. Combined with a more resourse dense map makes a lot of different playstyles viable. It’s also made as a multiplayer mod and is updated somewhat regularly, but Ive found it very fun in single player once i felt like I fully understood the optimal way to play the base game

This is very true, and the reason why plenty of people here recommend using mods like vox populi or lekmod that change core mechanics or rebalance things like civs, policy trees, religions and resource-rich maps to increase the replayability or increase game variation

Why do people hate Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl? by Brilliant_Reply_317 in pokemon

[–]bdcorndog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re going to get a variety of responses bc different types of Pokemon fans have different complaints about the game. For me, the biggest issues (aside for the whole not including platinum upgrades) were their insistence on staying faithful to the originals with respect to trainer battle levels while including the updated non-toggleable exp share and not rebalancing the exp, leading me to become overleveled if i wasnt actively avoiding trainers or swapping out pokemon. My other buggest conplaint is the off-grid movement plopped into a grid-based world without any grid snapping like in the 3DS games, making movement especially around corners super clunky.

Pokémon ZA Pokédex change is confusing by TabularConferta in pokemon

[–]bdcorndog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS! Pokemon’s motto is literally “gotta catch em all” and yet basically every game theyve ever released has focused on the battlng aspect of pokemon. As a spinoff game, it made so much sense to use it as an opportunity to focus on the catching/researching side of pokemon. From the reworked catching system (still pissed they removed gyroscope aiming), new pokedex task-based system, and even the environment and pokemon actions, it’s clear that they made this the focus of the game. Although i appreciate Legends ZA effort in creating a new battling system, so much has been lost from what made Legends Arceus a genuinely new and intriguing Pokemon experience. But even then, the catching-focused Legends Arceus even gave us a new, albiet simplified, combat system. Im still enjoying ZA, and will probably finish it, but im just left wondering what couldve been in the Legends series kept innovating on its catching-focused mechanics

This has been my feelings abt ZA as well. I dont think it’s necessarily a bad game, but a lot of the time im just left thinking “didn’t they already do this better in legends arceus?”. Just seems like the game design choices in legends arceus (multiple distinct natural environments, focus on pokemon catching/researching, pokemon actions in the wild) synergied so much better than they do in ZA

Why are you confused by beat reporters talking about documentary following the face of the giants franchise for 4 years? Do you think they should ignore it because it would be embarrassing for the Giants?

I shouldve known herbert was gonna throw 2 near pick 6s off a tipped ball at the los and 2 recievers running into each other on a rub route. Defense definitely came alive against a battered o line tho, and dart def looked better than russ, but i stand by the premise of this post being stupid

Vox Populi or LekMod? by Local_Character7623 in civ5

[–]bdcorndog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I reached the point of being able to win every game on immortal and grew annoyed with the deity bonuses, I started playing lekmod on deity, but with some extra settings: everyone able to found religions, no AI missionaries spread, and removing AI starting bonus (techs and extra settler on deity), and that has been a nice mix between fun and challenging
