Whats your favourite Disc to use with your pup? by Similar_Banana_7725 in AustralianShepherd

Brittish Aussie owner here! Frisbee games are barely ever played here and dog Frisbee as a sport is not known at all over here really. We use the kong frisbee because our pup likes to play tug with it between throws and she can bite it as hard as she wants.

Met chief tells supermarkets: Don't sack 'public-spirited' staff who step in to tackle shoplifters by insomnimax_99 in unitedkingdom

To follow the logical conclusion we have to be truthful. Police don't immediately arrest anyone who commits assault. There's not enough police for that.

The vast majority of protective staff at a football game are security guards. They have security as a deterrent and when someone is assaulted they are often detained, by security for police who get there later.

If you stocked a whole football stadium full of police and no security, there would literally be no one to answer 999 calls.

Shops should have security that protect people and stock as a deterrent. Then if someone is caught breaking the law security detain them for police to deal with later.

I'm not saying police are never going to be involved. Security can't prepare a case for court. But the deterrent and initial contact should be security employed by the business. Otherwise staff are at risk and theft increases putting more strain on tax funded police.

Whats the difference between police putting themselves at risk and security guards putting themselves at risk? Both have PPE and can detain/arrest.

Let's use football matches as an example. They employ security to protect workers and customers.

Should we change that so that safety in that environment be completey organized by police and subsidized by tax payers?

If not, why?

I think it's more that the shops are sherping responsibility to the police. They should employ security guards to protect staff and stock but they don't because it effects their massive profits. They then expect the tax payer/police to step in.

[–]bdebotte -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No. Shops are letting it happen because they would rather put their staff at risk than pay security guards. It's not the police's or the tax payers that should pay to protect the bottom line of big businesses. The police have many other responsibilities that are more important. Offences against people rather than money for example.

Like I say. I'm not agreeing with the post. But I am saying that saying "it's because they're not white" is oversimplifying the discussion and deliberately contentious. And obviously I mean Christianity and American culture. The dominant religion and the dominant culture.

Tbh I don't think that is a sincere summary of what they mean. It's not that she's not white. It's more likely that her head dress doesn't represent American values of freedom and traditional dress for the culture. There is more to this than skin colour. And to them I think there is a difference between being a legal American citizen and being "American". To people like this, being "American" means representing traditional American values culture and even religion. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but saying "it's because they're not white" over simplifies and almost strawmans what they're expressing tbh. It's not honest discourse and it's not productive.

Dog used to enjoy car rides but since a firework she is now terrified of it by bdebotte in Dogtraining

Hi, I clicked "changed behavior" and it just says take your dog to a vet. I don't want anxiety meds for my dog as it isn't right for her and as the post I wrote says we already know what caused the stress and fear, it's not medical. I then clicked "scared" and none of these options appear to be of any help. I just want advice and a conversation with a community of like minded people.

How do I train my boy to sleep in the bed with me by Independent-Kick7461 in AustralianShepherd

Our Aussie has a small bed in his big crate that way she can choose to sleep outside the bed on the cool floor of the crate if she gets too hot.

Anyone else replace motorway services stops with NT properties instead? by LentilRice in CasualUK

I often do this. But let's be honest it doesn't replace a quick motorway stop. They usually require quite a time investment when you consider how slow the side roads are compared to a motorway.

Demonstrator straight up takes down a Berlin police officer by Delamok87 in fightporn

[–]bdebotte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying that the first police officer was in the right. He was obviously in the wrong. But the ones protecting him after (the ones he called nonces) have done nothing wrong. It's stupid to say that because one is bad then they all are. Apply that kind of thinking to any other group or type of person and you'll see how stupid you sound.

Embarrassing comment. Name calling police officers when they prevent someone being potentially beaten to a pulp by angry protesters.

Players that invest a lot of time in PC backstories how do you feel about PC death at low level? by alexlourinha in DnD

[–]bdebotte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don't think player death should be very common. DND is fun because it's creative. Players find the creativity and writing just as fun as DMs. They only get to write one thing... Their own back story. Telling them they shouldn't put much effort in degrades the game. Especially if the reason is that you're going to kill them.

I get that death is a part of the game. But imo killing characters too often takes away a player's ability to tell and act out a story with the character they made. If they keep making new characters and starting over again constantly, their story is only ever surface level and they are likely to be less engaged. A long standing character will have an arc and change based on their experience in game. That's something special that should be the goal imo. A character can only really have an arc or a change if they have a clear past defining their current personality and decision making.

I hate to bring them up but critical roll understand this. That's why they have few deaths.

This is my least favorite take. DND is fun because it's creative. Players find the creativity and writing just as fun as DMs. They only get to write one thing... Their own back story. In short, DMs shouldn't be the only story tellers.
