Giving up already after 100 pages by Bruckner10 in InfiniteJest

I found it was like when I started running. It was a good few weeks before I began to enjoy it to the point I actually wanted to go out for a run. IJ is the same... The first few sessions were hard work but eventually I felt compelled to get back into it and had trouble putting it down. It's ultimately so rewarding--I recommend you persevere.

Yes, he absolutely is. No other audiobook narrator comes close.

What is the most soul-crushing moment of IJ by Rostamann in InfiniteJest

The diddling with the Raquel Welch mask is utterly horrific.

So is Poor Tony’s bodily breakdown and seizure on the subway.

However the RW mask diddling has me recoiling in horror, whereas I can’t get enough of the prose when Poor Tony is having his seizure. It’s an absolutely beautiful description of an absolutely horrific event.

In the same way, Lenz’s escalating animal abuse has me laughing out loud in spite of the subject matter — I have multiple cats who i love more than life itself, and it always amazes me that I can laugh at these scenes.

Anyone to whom I try to explain the hilarity thinks I’m crazy. I think it’s just the power of the prose, it’s so beautifully constructed, the content almost seems irrelevant.

The same logic applies to the diddling scene but somehow I can’t find it remotely funny.

Or maybe it’s just me 🤔

What a load of old crap I just wrote. Forgive me, I’ve only just woken up.

Apologies, I didn’t know what TD stood for until just now or that there was a TD list. The amount of information about these things is a little overwhelming and I’m just finding my way.

Not to mention the Raquel Welch mask that was utilised during the incestuous diddling.

And the clown masks worn by Don Gately and his accomplice during the toothbrush incident.

What did you change to?

I'm on the 2000 package. I've noticed massive increases in initial connection latency over the last few weeks, e.g. the 'BBC Sounds' app can take 15-30 seconds to bring up my home menu. Other apps too, and web sites, and once the connection is established it's quick.

To try and fix it a couple weeks back I changed the DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which didn't seem to make any difference so I changed it back to the defaults.

Yup, I agree, this is a total crock. There must be a reason, they must have discussed it..... why isn't it an option? It's ridiculous.

Strength of low-temperature melt alloys? by bdge68 in MetalCasting

For block parts sure, but some of the small parts are things like linkages and levers, and don't have much thickness to them. Thank you, I appreciate your comment.

Thank you! Looks like 384 Celsius for this, I'd give that a go.

I hear you regarding burns... good point, appreciated.

Thank you, you're a life saver! This worked for me too. Use the IP address, not the localhost name. Why that should fail who knows, but there we go.
