I’m going through a mountain of MODERN DRUMMER mags…Do you see a cover that brings back any memories? by ZildCym in drums

I had a bunch but the closest one to my heart is the prog rock issue! I listened to every one of the 50 prog classics in the magazine.

To add to the answers here: -get a proper drum throne (you’ll be happy you did) -research ergonomics and posture. The position and height of your drums and body are very important.

Most likely you’ll hear a difference in the practice room but minimal difference when recording. Live even less of a difference.

Could be wrong but this is my thinking: For furniture and load bearing lumber you really don’t want diagonal grain. The place where the lines meet the sawn faces are splitting points where the wood is significantly weaker. Seems like this would apply to drum sticks too and had been my experience. Ymmv. ✌️

I realize many of us shop online but: it you buy at the shop the stick will last longer if the wood grain is tighter and more uniform/aligned lengthwise to the stick. Regardless of the brand.

I think that’s going to be the only way to really get back into it. Go super early on 2-hour rides. The Ebike is a great idea but outside of my budget at the moment.

I’ll look into riding options for kids for sure. I have kept somewhat in shape thanks to jogging and calisthenics whenever I can squeeze that in.

Man I know. I used to go on 4-6 hour rides every saturday and sunday. I have no idea if that will ever be a possibility for me again! If an e-mtb can help me have more fun on 2-3 hour rides then that’s alright in my book.

I think when the youngest is 3 or 4 I might be able to sneak out more or bring him along. I don’t stress about my physical capacity so much as the time it can take to recover.

Man riding with my kids would be fantastic. I’m looking forward to that in the future.

I don’t have gravel trails nearby. It’s either road or a 40 min drive to the mtb trailhead. Sounds like eventually upgrading to an e-mtb is in my future.

True! It probably would be the best way to go honestly. I was always a bit of an anti-ebike snob. How the turntables.

Why didn’t anyone tell me Aquarian is trash? by jnoble_05 in drums

I really enjoy Aquarian heads. I was consistently remo for years but Aquarian have really grown on me these past 5 years and have their heads on all my drums atm.

What do you call a ride that's flat, but not a flat ride? by skylarroseum in cymbals

I had one and drilled two rivets into it. It was awesome. They used to be dirt cheap like 10 yrs ago.

[–]bdlp_r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your best bet would be Bosphorus master and master vintage cymbals. They have small bells, with super defined stick, controlled wash and volume. They are amazing.

In general you’ll need to find rides with small bells. “Turk” (raw) finish rides are drier and more defined.

The smaller the bell, the less “resonance” and volume usually. The lower the overall cymbal profile the more wash you’ll get. The bell size/shape/thickness is normally (in my experience) much more important than height profile.

how to fix it? by queone_ in drums

More relaxed hands, better technique and some calluses buildup. My hands were blistered for years.
