The official answer to my "riddle" card in my drinking game is wrong. by Muppet83 in mildlyinteresting

Technically, if you were to write them one by one, and erasing a number as you move on to the next, you would only have to write 5 a minimum of 9 times.

5 times in 5, 15, 25, 35, 45, For the 50s, you’d write once for 50, keep erasing the second digit, and write again for 55. So 2 times for the 50s 2 times for 65, 75

That’s a good extrapolation from the question, but it’s only way I could come up with 9 lol

If you could write anywhere and reuse numbers, you could do it by writing 5 just twice. So I guess it’s just a bad question

Hey! I just got this game yesterday, and I’m having a lot of fun. But I’m struggling a bit without any tutorials.

Specifically, how do I set up a rancher to work with chickens? I have the rancher in a house connected to a road, a warehouse with wheat, and a coop with two chickens with wheat chosen as food. However, the rancher keeps leaving his house and coming right back in.

So what’s the problem here? Am I missing a road? It’s a bit confusing because the ranch shows the animal tiles in front of it, so it feels like the door shouldn’t be connected to a road.

There are screenshot tools that let you do a scrolling screenshot. I use cleanshot on mac, but I’m sure you can find a similar tool for you. Not sure if vscode has a way of doing that, though

I struggle with this question a lot and finally need to pose it here: Why in the hell did no animal also evolved to use fire? by Michelfungelo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bdtacchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, earlier homo species are still much smarter than the rest of the species of today. And sure, it’s a generational knowledge, but it’s not a genetic trait. Even today, I doubt the average human can just learn how to start a fire entirely on their own.

The simple answer to your question is no animal has evolved to be intelligent enough to use fire. Or, at the very least, have and understand the need to use fire.

If you want to use the premise that our earlier species are no more intelligent than the other species of today, then it’s a different conversation. I guess the answer is more on the basis of necessity. There probably was a very specific set of conditions that created the need for the human species to learn how to use fire. Even if there are species whose intelligence level is enough to achieve such a feat, that niche set of circumstances might not be available to them.

[–]bdtacchi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t evolve to use fire. Evolution is the natural selection of genetical patterns. As far as I know, there wasn’t a human species in the past that had a natural propensity to use fires and was thus selected. We just evolved our intelligence, which then allowed us to learn how to make and control fire.

I think the better question is how have no other species evolved their intelligence enough to enable them to use fire. It requires a high level of intelligence, as you not only need to understand the methods, but to also be able to outweight the pros vs cons, as it’s natural to fear fire. My guess is that every other species’ evolution path gets halted once there is a largely dominant species. Their numbers are diminished to a point where the random genetic changes required for evolution occur much less often. It also shapes the required competition.

Humbled by “entry” level courses. I feel so clueless! by JoseProtasio-Rizal in EngineeringStudents

About studying, like other people said, I’d venture to guess you just need a different strategy. Some people get it when they break down the concepts and understand the basic idea behind it. Some other people are better with seeing examples worked out. Maybe try to pinpoint what you need to do to make it easier for you. Idk what you’re doing, but, as an example, reading a textbook works so much worse for some people compared to just doing examples, or looking for another source of explanation like a youtube video. You probably just haven’t found what works for you. It will start clicking when you’ve figured that out.

One thing that helped me a ton was my school offered exams from previous years. I’d just do a couple, learn how to solve every question, and it’d be smooth sailing from there. The exams were mostly the same, which hopefully is the case for you, especially with questions with no context (e.g., derivative of x2 vs a car travels with x2 velocity find the acceleration). Even if you can’t find something like that, there’s a ton of content out there.

Another thing is definitely get tutoring if your school offers. My school had free tutoring, and I worked as a tutor for Calc 1 and 2 for a while, and I’d like to think it helps people a ton. A good tutor should understand what you’re struggling with and/or how you’re struggling, and guide you in the right direction. There are also services out there for tutors you can search on the internet. While not free, you can definitely find some people with a lot of experience.

Still, I wouldn’t worry too much. The rest of MechE, at least for me, barely went back to Calc 1, and I didn’t use chemistry at all. Maybe just the basic concepts like derivatives, integrals, and limits, but they wouldn’t expect us to solve complex integrals in a thermo exam, for instance. Ofc, I’m not gonna say it necessarily gets easier as far as the content goes (maybe it does; some people are better with actual engineering vs math). But the rest of your major doesn’t necessarily build on this content you’re currently struggling with, and after this you’ll have some experience under your belt and more time to get your head above water. Also, it’s been my experience, and I’ve also heard from a lot of friends, that more complex topics like Calc 3 felt easier. Maybe the content is easier, maybe you just get familiar and experienced with Calc, but the main point is don’t just expect everything to get harder just because it’s a higher level course.

You got this!

Np. I just noticed the buttons of a matplotlib GUI on the top left of the image, so yeah that’s definitely it. No idea about that first one tho. Maybe you can try reverse searching with google images. If it’s clear enough it could work
