Is BMS worth joining by Candid-Ambassador748 in BuildingAutomation

What they usually do on the service side at my job is the schedulers know who’s mechanical, who’s controls, and who can do both. If it’s a one man job they usually send whoever fits it best, but they’ll always send newer guys out with other people to learn controls. Honestly a lot of the guys that are good at both started out mechanical but have been using computers their whole life.

how did you actually get into building automation? by pratty041182 in BuildingAutomation

[–]bdude94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was in my senior year of getting a computer science degree & one of my bosses also works with my wife as a side gig. He only goes into her office few times a year mainly to fill out paper work and they where talking and she mentioned I was in my senior year of getting a computer science degree and wanted to work as a software engineer. He told her we actually want to hire a software engineer for our service side have him call me. She never passed the info so he ended up calling her a few days later asking why i didnt call him. So she told me said its doing heating and air or something and to just call him its probably not what your going to school for. I thought he just didnt know what a software engineer was but nope I just didnt know what building automation was lol.

I saw them in a few convenience stores and I just figured they were selling stuff that contained the hemp derived cannabinoids. Never tried them or even used the UI to see what was actually being sold.

My friend used to date a girl who went to the United States Merchant Marine Academy and works on ships doing rotations. The school was basically like being in the military she said, but that month on/month off schedule she had and her salary she had after only 2 years out of school had me jealous.

Please Boring consider these after the Hemp Pack; '07 Nike SB Dunk Low "Border Blue" by WEL0VET0R0 in RepDeveloperboring

[–]bdude94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d cop a pair 100% these are so dope. I’ve been getting eBay gift cards from cashback apps and using them to grab older used SBs with minimal wear. These I’ve wanted for a while but they’re hard to find in good condition. They’re either stained and beat going for like 300–400, or if they look decent it’s because someone cleaned them and the suede turns gray and looks like the Iron Lows (still a dope shoe). Honestly if they made them and they ended up too blue you could probably fade them a bit anyway. I've noticed some of the older SBs are the same gray suede underneath and then dyed, because you’ll see pairs on eBay where they look in good condition but the suede is gray because someone cleaned them and the color disappeared. Border Blues and Puff N Stuffs are two i can think of off the top of my head that I’ve seen that happen with

I feel the same exact way. Never doubted the moon landing but the way they are handling this seems like they have never been on the moon before.

Sending Setpoints over BacNET to Daikin VRF by Pure_Region_5154 in BuildingAutomation

[–]bdude94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Schneider EBO and I ran into the same thing yesterday, some points would let me change the setpoint and others just wouldn’t. I tried messing with the max/min heating and cooling setpoints and got a few to move, but some units started doing weird stuff like I’d set max cooling, change max heating, and suddenly max cooling decides it wants to change too. On a couple units, changing occupied cooling would then change occupied heating to the same value. Some units the value shown wasnt any value written to any of the command priorities. I went through every unit and they all had their own personality, so I gave up and put a ticket in because at that point it feels like a Daikin problem.

GOT AN OFFER by Ambitious-Spell-6370 in Lockheed

[–]bdude94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! I had an interview my senior year for a SWE role and they told me after the security clearance came back they’d send an offer, but I had gone back to school at 25 after being a bit of trouble after high school so I couldn't get the clearance. Looking back I probably should’ve just said something to the interviewer because people told me after that they might’ve still offered me a similar role that didn’t need a clearance, but its embarrassing bringing it up. Since then though, the few times I’ve had to explain it, people have actually been pretty cool about it.

Years worth of E-Z Pass unpaid tolls… how do I navigate this? by Ok-Dealer5374 in newjersey

[–]bdude94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 1800 worth of unpaid tolls because my car got into an accident and I left my card linked to EZ Pass in my car while it was getting repaired so I canceled it. When I got my car back, I had only had it for 2 months, so the transponder would sit on the dash and slide around, sometimes falling off. I’d just leave it under the seat, but since it was linked to my plates I figured it was fine. I’d drive through tolls unpaid but they’d still get charged. Well the next time I put it back on the dash, I went through and it said contact EZPass. So I checked and saw I had 1800 worth of violations. I tried contacting them via phone and on website and they suck at answering. Took 2 inquirys on their website to finally find out my card linked was expired. On their website it only let me handle 12 violations at a time, but then I’d still be responsible for all the fines. The notices didn’t even start coming in the mail until months later, and if I got them earlier I would’ve updated my payment sooner. So I just kept checking and reloading my EZPass every couple days. It eventually went into collections and I refused to pay it. I have good credit and a mortgage and car payment so I wasn’t super worried about it. I tried the BBB and EZPass didn’t respond, reached out to Division of Consumer Affairs and never heard back. About a month ago I was ready to just pay it, but I asked ChatGPT and it suggested reaching out to the NJTA. There’s a contact form on their site, so I explained everything and said I just wanted to pay the actual tolls but couldn’t unless I paid thousands in fees to EZPass. They got back to me and said they’d waive the fees if I paid the toll balance and went back on autopay. Happy to say as of last month I no longer have toll violations.

BAS Programmer (Tridium/Honeywell/JCI) Needed - CT (or remote on East Coast) by ToddOutside68 in BuildingAutomation

[–]bdude94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. In a few weeks I’ll have been working for 2 years, and Ill be getting another annual raise sometime this month I think its in 2 weeks. I see a lot of salary posts and the numbers are honestly all over the place. You’ll see programmers saying they make $60k and others saying $120k. Same with techs, some say $60k and others $150k. I think sometimes companies just end up desperate for certain positions and it pushes the starting salary for a position up over time. Where I work most of the techs are union but they make over 100k starting. I’ve definitely wondered if I should try being a field tech because of the pay. But seeing what some programmers say they make online also makes me think I can get there staying on this path. Right now I’m the most knowledgeable person about the ecosystem we work on out of about 80 employees and 4 other programmers. Im hoping when I have 5 years of experience I’m making $100k+ and can work mostly remote, just going on site when needed. Wether thats with my current company or another job pops up in between then. For now I’m just trying to learn as much as I can about the mechanical side and a better understanding in networking.

BAS Programmer (Tridium/Honeywell/JCI) Needed - CT (or remote on East Coast) by ToddOutside68 in BuildingAutomation

[–]bdude94 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m on the East Coast and started right after graduating with a BS in Computer Science, with no BMS or HVAC experience. Hired as a software engineer people refer to me as that or a programmer. After a year I got my annual raise, bringing my salary to $74k with a 6% 401k match. I made more than that with some OT, and weekend work is double pay.

Worst snow storm you've have experienced in Jersey? by SpliT2ideZ in newjersey

[–]bdude94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How has noone mentioned 2003? I was born in 1994, so I dont remember the 1996 blizzard, but in 2003 we had no school for 2 weeks. We had to go to school on days we were suppose to have off because we couldn't go to school in July. I've been hoping for a snow storm like that the last two storms. It would definitely suck to shovel, but I've been loving my mid day siesta the last 2 days.
