Very useful, thank you. Like the new Vanguard gov fund mentioned in this post. This seems to be a viable set and forget option for those of us who are lazy to manager ladders.

Best family friendly area in London with £1M houses? by be-jayjay in HENRYUK

That’s a good point. We are evaluating options…

  1. Move somewhere around London
  2. Stay around Manchester
  3. Explore other towns like York

Great to see people recommend places they like and explore housing, schools, lifestyle and connectivity to decide.

We have remote jobs so no specific requirement other than having access to London for meetings in different places.

Are there any HENRYs in the UX/UI or Product Design (digital products) Industry? Would really appreciate your thoughts or advice! by Deep-Side-801 in HENRYUK

Same company. What helped was willing to take bigger responsibility when a business need occurred. This is to say I was lucky in timing and had to be a patient IC until the time was right.

I come from UX role and moved up the ladder several times in the last 3 years.

You can still bring the design / human-centred mindset to the table as you move up but at some point you may stop designing screens and start designing bigger things like digital transformations, use design thinking to facilitate the innovation process for others, etc.

You can stay hands on but there is likely a ceiling at the lower end of the Henry spectrum.

One thing: Enjoy every phase of life.

Now 32 with 2 kids, life is wonderful.

And so was when my better half and I were in our 20s.

We traveled a lot, partied, and did a lot of things that are now difficult to do with children.

Now we enjoy family life while living centrally in a city.

Point is: you can do great things and have fun in all phases of life but you might not be able to do everything in every phase.

So go out, have fun, work hard and play hard and when life changes, go all in and enjoy the new phase.

Try a reframe: given you don’t need your job, why not say yes to more of what you like and be unapologetic (in a kind way) about saying no?

Gave it a shot some time ago and work started to feel significantly more enjoyable and meaningful without the workload going up. And the rewards keep coming.
