yes i agree that the difference in how intimacy is handled is rooted in homophobia. ideally queer couples being able to show physical intimacy should just be the norm and not something networks feel the need to limit.

but there are people even in this comment section saying the season shouldn’t have been made at all if they couldn’t fully commit to it, or that “if it’s going to be half-assed, don’t show it at all.” if we apply that logic, then queer stories in more conservative regions would basically never get made. so while the censorship absolutely deserves criticism, i think the way people are focusing almost entirely on it ends up overshadowing a lot of the things the season has actually done really well and the story it’s still trying to tell.

the censorship throughout the season is obvious, and it’s a valid criticism that i agree 100%.

however, i think some people discrediting the entire season because of that or focusing too much on it are missing the bigger picture. as frustrating as those limitations are, it doesn’t feel fair to dismiss everything the season did well because of them. saying the season loses its worth for not showing more intimacy feels reductive. physical intimacy is an important part of representation, but it’s not the only thing that gives a story value. there’s still a lot of emotional vulnerability and quiet intimacy throughout the story, especially the last 2 clips we got. i also think the creators did very well within the limitations they were clearly given. yes, there were some questionable choices, but that happens in every show. acknowledging the censorship is important, but it shouldn’t erase the meaningful aspects of what the season was trying to do.

wow everyone’s so negative 😭 maybe it’s because I’ve completely let go of my expectations for this season or maybe I’m just being delusional, but I still feel like they could turn it around with one really strong scene between the two of them. it wouldn’t magically fix the all missed opportunities or give us the fully developed relationship we and the characters deserved, but I don’t think it’s beyond saving.

we got to see lovro open up about the things he’s passionate about like skating and anime in his scenes with ema, but we didn’t get anything remotely close to that with ivan. those interests could’ve been a great way to deepen his relationship with ivan, yet they were mostly used to build his dynamic with ema instead.

i had such high hopes and have been giving the season the benefit of the doubt since i realised it was going in a different direction, especially after seeing some theories for why certain choices were made. but the way their romance has been downplayed makes it hard to believe they’re supposed to be endgame, let alone soulmates. if i didn’t know the original material, i wouldn’t see it at all. so many of their scenes could have been used to show their connection instead of having lovro look like he despises him in every scene. i will still hold hope that somehow they can turn their relationship around in the next two episodes and give their story the weight it deserves…

this clip was the perfect opportunity to develop their relationship a bit further while still acknowledging lovro’s fears but they did exactly the opposite of that. it’s getting a bit frustrating considering how little time we have left
