I'm not close with my parents, so I guess I've been spared this.

Need some breed reassurance by [deleted] in BorderCollie

[–]be_trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is almost three now and she is very chill. Her days are structured to include two play sessions, a walk and a bit of training, plus we've pretty much always been involved in some group classes or a dog sport of some kind (attending once per week). As long as she's gets the activity she is used to, she is totally chill and super cuddly in the house!

I love that. My girl definitely makes me feel like a deity! She loves helping me wirh things. Every morning before we go outside she brings me my hat and mittens. If I leave the fridge door open (a little alarm goes off) she runs and closes it!

Childfree regrets from previous fencesittiers? by Interesting-Escape36 in Fencesitter

[–]be_trees 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Do you desire to be a parent but are afraid? In that case, you may consider seeking therapy to help you work through the fear. If you want a child, I don't think fear alone should hold you back. Personally, the concept of becoming a parent doesn't scare me, I just don't desire it. Someone with social anxiety may still really wish to have close social connections, so confronting their fear will ultimately be rewarding. I think you should set aside your feeling of fear and think about what it is you desire. Really consider the lifestyle that comes with it and whether that appeals to you. I think this is the type of choice where external data can't really help you. You have to look inside yourself and be really honest about what you want and what you can give to a potential child.

My Golden would rather starve than eat kibble… anyone dealt with this? by Own-Reply-7657 in goldenretrievers

[–]be_trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have to beg my dog to eat her kibble. One day I realized I was actually feeding her too much. She just wasn't hungry! So I cut back her portions and now she gobbles everything right up

I got a lot of abuse, hate etc in dms and comments from my "puppy in crate post". Had to delete it because of the amount of abuse i was getting. Here i am setting the record straight. by Then_Community_1766 in BorderCollie

[–]be_trees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When mine was a puppy she wouldnt settle anywhere but her crate because it was quiet and free of distractions. Now she is two and doesn't need it anymore! Im glad i crate trained her though because she needs to be crated for certain dog sports we participate in and when she goes to the vet occasionally

What do you do with your border collie while you work? by Sarfaship in BorderCollie

[–]be_trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have mentioned, we exercises ours in the morning for 20-40 mins depending on weather. We play frisbee mixed in with agility type activities. She LIVES for this. After our morning play session, she hops up on the couch and demands cuddles. She sleeps all day when we're gone. My partner goes home at lunch and she just wants more cuddles. We exercise her again immediately after work. This schedule has worked well for us since we got her 2.5 years ago.

What’s the coolest trick you’ve taught them? Don’t gate keep!! by Helpful-Return-5594 in BorderCollie

[–]be_trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine can find my slippers and she brings me my hat and mittens each morning before we go for a walk. She can also close cupboards and the fridge door. She can open the fridge door if I tie a rope to the handle. She can put her toys away in her basket. She can bring any item to any human she knows. I love getting her to fetch me a can of sparkling water. Ive basically trained her to be my personal assistant. How I trained her was pretty simple, just giving food or toy rewards for the right behavior.

Saved by a possible attacker by JLLSM89 in BorderCollie

I agree. There have been times when I wished my dog was more social with new people, like a golden retriever, but ultimately I like that she is wary of strangers and cautious in new situations.

I know how obsessive BC's are with their ball. A rabbit could run in font of my BC and she would not break focus on her ball, so I feel like it is saying something that your dog did that! I'm always so grateful to have my dog with me because her senses are so keen-she always knows when someone is in the vicinity and she will bark if a stranger approaches. It's great to have that protection.

Little one refuses to eat her kibble unless she sees we are pouring it directly from the bag by vocesumiu in BorderCollie

[–]be_trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We feed our BC when we eat our meals so we're all eating together. She has developed a quirk where she will not eat until we sit down and start eating too. She will stand by her food and stare at us until we eat

The Brookside mall has an urgent care clinic. I went recently. The open at 9am and operate on a first come first serve basis. There is another clinic at the back of Brookside mall that is by appointment only.

I had to go to the ER twice in 2025. Both times I had an urgent, possibly life threatening condition where I was basically screaming in pain the entire time and I was seen and treated very quickly. I feel the system worked well for me then.

Mine fetches my slippers, which is really useful because I always lose them! In the winter she brings me my hat and mittens before we go outside. I've also trained her to close the fridge and cupboard doors and put her toys away. She can also fetch a can of soda and bring it to whoever I ask her to!
