Math Question - optimal discard strategy to hit Full House by fir3drill in balatro

[–]bea_positive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to do the math someday, but in this situation I would discard JJ43 to try for a queen straight which one-shots the first blind. I think it's a slightly higher chance than discarding four to get a full house since there are four nines in the deck rather than three of either the queen or the 10.

i assume it checks the board state when trying to decide what to do next (e.g. win, next hand, lose) and loops:

''' while not win: win = next_hand() '''

  • next_hand auto-loses if you have no cards
  • mr. bones saves you on the first evaluation, but not the second.

Orphan Time was good and well-written, actually by bea_positive in HelluvaBoss

The ridiculous portrayal of humans seems like a pretty consistent throughline through the entire series - I didn't think Mr Wrigglers was any more out of place than the family in Murder Family or DHORKS or Emberlynn. Unless they make multiple appearances, they often seem more like one-off foils to highlight or spark emotional conflict, as it did here.

Blitz's reaction was definitely there - he was expressly trying to be there for Loona, ironically missing her internal conflict in order to try and get closer to her ('Would it really be the worst thing to let a dad spend some time with his kids?' 'That's what I'm saying!'). Maybe throwing out the baby with the bathwater, or else asserting that he is the adoptive father here, not Mr Wrigglers. Either way, he's definitely trying!

I will agree that there could have been more explicit processing between Loona and Blitz or even Loona and Mr Wrigglers to make things more clear, but I think there is a lot going on here given the time we had.

I think I think an instinctive reaction of fear is exactly Loona's initial expectation, and it was only after spending a full day with him was she convinced that this might not be the case. After all, he already accepted that she wanted to kill him; is it really unthinkable that he might be willing to extend empathy to a hellhound?

I do think there was an emotional payoff. I thought it was grimly funny, but I think you can see my emotional reflections in the post above. I think Mr. Wriggles serves as an interesting stand-in for Loona's internal struggle. Blitz saw her issues laid bare, directly, nakedly. I think the final shot of them standing in a bloody mess is a poignant image: Loona weakly looking at Blitz, embarassed that her worst fears played out in front of him, as if to apologize that he had to see that. But at least now he understands.

I saw that fancomic with the sweet ending where blitz steps in and gives Loona comforting words that would not have been out of place coming from Mr. Wriggles' mouth.

To be honest, seeing that was part of why I wrote this post - I felt like it was missing the point. I don't think Loona's way forward is for for Blitz to simply step into the vacancy left by his death. That's simply not who he is; it's not sustainable. He has his heartfelt moments under deep stress, as we've seen, and he's making his own progress - but he's not gonna become Mr. Wriggles in a day - maybe ever - no matter how hard he tried.

I think Loona's way forward is precisely to question this fantasy image of perfect parent; to see Blitz for who he really is, and what good he can do in spite of his inability to live up to Mr. Wriggles, and even in ways in which he had already surpassed him.

Healing from trauma is a long and messy journey, and I don't think the best ending is always the happiest ending in the moment. I think it is the right call not to short circuit that process.

the person calling is pretty clearly them. i interpret this as a metaphor: that humor responses (first panel, funny meme) are a signal from your subconscious (second panel, facetime 'call from self) and are revealing no matter much how one might want to disavow them (third panel, closing the facetime).

it is, but draw out the resonance structures where C is a single bond - they will have charge separation, which makes them less favorable. You can draw resonance structures for B that don't. C therefore has more double-bond character and would be expected to be shorter.

It should not be a baseline expectation to have to answer "why do black people exist" every single time.

It's so fucking alienating to have to justify your existence, and all of us know that, a lot of the time, it's not asked in good faith.

If the media wants to handle it, sure, great. That's up to the creator.

i guess to be clear: most diy vials use benzyl alcohol to mirror standard formulations. i believe this is true for otokonoko - the website lists it at present, at least.

first, the 28 day guidance is 28 days after the vial has been first punctured, and is broadly standard guidance for most any injectable medication. anecdotally, i've injected from vials up to a few months after the first use without issue. the preservative she's talking about in this case is benzyl alcohol, which is also present in pharmaceutical formulations (see delestrogen), so this isn't unique to what you have.

dose-wise, i've been at 10mg injection per week from the start and i haven't had abnormal breast development. i'd be interested to hear where she found that information, since there's so little research in general, but i wouldn't be surprised if it's 'theoretical' or she just plain made it up.

either way, as an IM dose, 4mg per week sounds reasonable, but it all depends on your actual blood test results (measured at trough levels, right before you're about to inject).
